1945 Jolie Stylish Stove-Pipe Hat #459


Quick & easy to crochet this charming stove-pipe hat with the stylish lines of its design…a sophisticated, season-spanning wardrobe favorite…perfect for many occasions!

MATERIALS: 
Hiawatha Super wired Chenille #36, 4 skeins
#0 Steel or #3 Bone Crochet Hook
1 ¼ yds Satin Ribbon 3” wide
½ yd Millinery Wire
Small qty Millinery Sizing

CROWN: 
Make 17” circle of millinery wire, fastening ends securely.

1ST RND:  Ch 2 loosely, work 9 sc in 2nd ch from hk.  Do not join.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in each st around. 

3RD RND:  * Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st.  Rep from * around [27 sts].

4TH RND:  Sc in next st, * 2 sc in next st, sc in next st.  Rep from * around [9 incs].

5TH & 6TH RNDS:  Inc 9 sts evenly around [do not make incs directly over prev incs]. 

Piece should meas 4 ½” in diameter.

7TH RND:  Work sc over wire circle, inc 9 sts as before.  Sl st in next st.

8TH RND:  Thru back lps only, work sc in each st around.

9TH RND:  Thru both lps, work sc around. 

Rep last rnd until side is 3 ¼” deep [when crown is shaped into perfect circle].  Sl st in next st.

NEXT RND:  Thru back lps only, work sl st around, tightening crown to proper head fit.

BRIM: 
1ST RND:  Thru front lps only, work sc, inc in every 4th st around.

2ND RND:  Thru both lps,  work sc in each st around. 

Rep 2nd rnd until brim meas 1 ¼”. 

Use double chenille, work 2 more rnds of sc.  Sl st in next st.  Fasten off.

FINISHING: 
Make V as follows:  Use double chenille, ch 24.

1ST ROW:  2 Sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in next 10 ch, 5 sc in next ch, sc in next 10 ch, 2 sc in last ch.  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  2 Sc in 1st st, sc in each st to center st, 5 sc in center st, sc in each st along other side, 2 sc in last st.  Fasten off. 

Sew top edges of V to inside of back of hat, at edge of crown. 

Turn hat top down on table, pull into shape, brush inside with millinery sizing & allow to dry. 

Sew on ribbon as shown in picture.
