1945 Infant’s V-Neck Cardigan Sweater #B-128
SIZE:
Infant’s 2 & 3.
Directions are for size 2 with changes for size 3 in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Chadwick’s Red Heart Baby Wool, [3/4 oz balls]: 4 [5] balls
#3 Bone Crochet Hook
6 Buttons

GAUGE:
7 sts = 1”
6 rows = 1”

WAISTBAND:
Starting at narrow end, ch 11.

1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in each ch across [10 sc].  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in back lp of each sc across.  Ch 1, turn.

Rep 2nd row until piece meas 18” [20”].

Ch 1, turn & work across long edge making 136 [148] sc.

Ch 1, turn & work in patt as follows:

1ST ROW:  * Sc in back lp of next sc, sc in front lp of next sc.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

Rep last row until piece meas in all 7 ½” [8”].

RIGHT FRONT:
Work in patt across 34 [37] sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Work over this last set of sts only, dec 1 st at both ends of next 4 [5] rows – to dec, work off 2 sc as 1 sc.

Work inner [armhole] edge straight but cont decs as before until there rem for shoulder 15 [16] sts.

Work straight until piece meas in all 11” [12”].  Fasten off.

BACK:
Attach yarn & work across next 68 [74] sts dec 1 st at both ends of each row until there rem 60 [64] sts.

Work straight until piece meas same as right front.  Fasten off.

LEFT FRONT:
Attach yarn & work across rem 34 [37] sts to correspond with right front.  Fasten off.

SLEEVES:  WRISTBAND:
Work same as waistband for 4” [4 ½”].

Ch 1, turn & work across long edge making 52 [56] sc.

Ch 1, turn & work in patt until piece meas in all 7 ½” [8”].

SHAPE TOP:
Dec 1 st at both ends of each of next 4 [5] rows.  Fasten off.

ASSEMBLING:
Sew shoulder seams.

Sew sleeve seams & sew sleeves in [easing any fullness towards top of sleeve].

BORDER:
With right side facing you, work sc evenly up right front edge, along neck edge, holding it in to fit, then down left front edge.  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in back lp of each sc.  Ch 1, turn.

3RD ROW:  Place 6 pins, evenly spaced, on right front edge, * work sc in back lp of each sc to pin, ch 2, sk 2 sc, sc in back lp of next sc.  Rep from * until 6 buttonloops have been made, sc in back lp of each rem sc.  Ch 1, turn.

4TH ROW:  Sc in back lp of each sc & 2 sc in each ch-2 lp.  Ch 1, turn.

5TH ROW:  Sl st in each sc.  Fasten off.

Press thru damp cloth.

Sew on buttons.
