1945 Fancy Ruffled Flower Hat #224

Sweet Frou Frou…a delightfully Tiny Hat!  Create this in black & add a wisp of veil for a fascinating accessory to wear for a special party or at cocktails.

Materials:
Hiawatha Belastraw Art #35, 2 tubes, or
Hiawatha Strawlite Art #47, 2 tubes
#0 Steel Crochet Hook, or #3 Bone Crochet Hook
1 yd Millinery Wire

HAT:
Disc:  Ch 4.  Join with sl st into ring.

1st rnd:  ch 3, 14 dc in ring [15 dc, count turning ch as I dc].  Join with sl st to top of ch-3.

2nd rnd:  Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each st around [30 sts].  Join.

3rd rnd:  Ch 3, * 2 dc in next st, dc in next st.  Rep from * around [45 sts].  Join. 

Cont inc 15 sts each rnd [do not inc directly over prev incs] for 2 more rnds [75 sts].  Join.

7th rnd:  Join ends of wire for form a figure 8; use double strand & work over one loop, work sc in each st around.  Join, then cont to work sc closely over second loop, work
1 ½” at center back over both wires.  Join; fasten off. 

Flower [Make 6 in Belastraw, or 7 in Strawlite]: 
Ch 4.  Join with sl st into ring.

1st rnd:  Ch 4, dc in ring, [ch 1, dc in ring] 7 times.  Ch 1, join with sl st in 3rd st of ch-4 [9 sps].

2nd rnd:  Ch 4, * dc in sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1.  Rep from * around.  Join as before [18 sps].

3rd rnd [1st petal]:  Ch 4, dc in sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 4, turn, [dc in sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1] 3 times; dc in next sp, ch 1, dc in 3rd st of ch-4, ch 1, turn, sc in sp, [ch 1, sc in next sp] 7 times; [ch 21, sc in same sp] twice; ch 1, sc in next sp, ch 1, sc in dc on 2nd rnd [where dc of 3rd rnd was made].

Ch 4, work 2nd petal.  Cont thus around [9 petals].  Fasten off. 

Sew flowers to disc as illustrated in photo.

NOTE: 
To make this ‘Fascinator’ extra special, add a veil of net, lace or dotted-swiss in a matching color. 

Experimenting with fabrics & color combinations will make this your own original creation!
