1944 Fancy Lace Dress with Round Yoke #C198

Start at the neck to crochet this dress in an easy, jiffy stitch.  This will become one of your favorite patterns!

SIZES:  2 & 4. 
Directions for size 2 with changes for size 4 in brackets.

MATERIALS:
J & P Coats, 8 [9] small balls of White or 10 [12] small balls of any color
J & P Coats, 4 [5] big balls of White
#10 Steel Crochet Hook                
3 Small Pearl Buttons

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Length from shoulder to bottom of skirt:  17” [19”]
Width at hem:    48” [50”]

GAUGE: 
14 sc = 1”,    
15 rows = 1”;    
[Pattern]  6 sps = 2”;    
11 rows = 2”
  
YOKE: 
Starting at top, ch 172 [196] sts, turn.

1ST ROW:  Sk 1 ch, sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in each sc across row, inc 6 sc on row [NOTE:  TO INC, WORK 2 SC IN 1 SC].  Ch 1, turn.

3RD - 14TH ROWS:  Same as 2nd row [BE CAREFUL NOT TO HAVE INCS IN SAME PLACE ON EACH ROW].  There are on 14th row 249 [273] sc.  Ch 4, turn.

15TH ROW:  Holding back last loop of each tr on hook make 2 tr in 1st sc, thread over & draw thru all loops on hook [starting cluster made], * ch 5, sk 3 sc, sc in next sc, ch 5, sk 3 sc, hold back last loop of each tr on hook make 3 tr in next sc, thread over & draw thru all loops on hook [cluster made].  Rep from * across, end with cluster in last sc.  Ch 1, turn. 

16TH ROW:  Sc in top of 1st cluster, * ch 5, cluster in next sc, ch 5, sc in top of next cluster.  Rep from * across, end with sc in top of last cluster.  Ch 1, turn.

17TH ROW:  * 4 Sc in next loop, [5 sc in next loop] twice.  Rep from * across. 
ON SIZE 4 ONLY, row will end with 4 sc in last 6 loops.  Ch 1, turn.  There are on row 289 [313] sc.

18TH & 19TH ROWS:  Sc in each sc across.  Ch 1, turn.

20TH & 21ST ROWS:  Same as 15th & 16th rows.

22ND ROW:  * 4 Sc in next loop, 5 sc in next loop.  Rep from * across, end with 5 sc in last 10 [4] loops.  Ch 1, turn.  There are on row 329 [353] sc.

23RD & 24TH ROWS:  Same as 18th & 19th rows.

25TH & 26TH ROWS:  Same as 15th & 16th rows.

27TH ROW:  * 4 Sc in next loop, 5 sc in next loop.  Rep from across. 
ON SIZE 4 ONLY, row will end with 4 sc in last 6 loops.   Ch 1, turn.  There are on row 369 [393] sc.

28TH & 29TH ROWS:  Same as 18th & 19th rows.

30TH & 31ST ROWS:  Same as 15th & 16th rows.

32ND ROW:  * 4 Sc in next loop, 5 sc in next loop.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.  There are on row 414 [441] sc. 

33RD & 34TH ROWS:  Same as 18th & 19th rows.  Fasten off.

FRONT: 
Divide Yoke in half & mark center front with pin.  Place another pin 5” [5 ½”] on each side of center pin.

With right side facing attach thread at 1st pin & work as for 15th row of Yoke but sk scs as necessary until 16 [17] clusters are made to center pin, then work in same manner from center pin to next pin, end with cluster.  There are on row 32 [34] clusters.

NEXT ROW:  Same as 16th row of Yoke.  Ch 4, turn.

FOLLOWING ROW:  Starting cluster in next sc, * ch 5, sc in top of next cluster, ch 5, cluster in next sc.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn. 

Rep last 2 rows 2 more times.  Fasten off.

BACK: 
Work as for Front [disregard center opening & join center back]. 

Do not fasten off at end of last row, but work as follows:  Turn & work in pat across Back, ch 31, work in pat across Front, ch 31, join with sl st in top of 1st sc made on Back.  Ch 4, turn.

NEXT RND:  Make starting cluster in same place as sl st, * ch 5, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch, ch 5, sk 3 ch, cluster in next ch.  Rep from * 2 more times, ch 5, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch, ch 5, cluster in 1st sc on Front.  Continue working in pat across Front, work in pat over chs as on opposite side & continue in pat across Back, end with ch 5, sl st in top of starting cluster.  Ch 1, turn.

FOLLOWING RND:  Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 5, cluster in next sc, ch 5, sc in top of next cluster.  Rep from * around, end with sl st in 1st sc made.  Ch 4, turn. 

NEXT RND:  Make starting cluster in same place as sl st & work in pat around, end with ch 5, sl st in top of starting cluster.  Ch 1, turn. 

Continue working back & forth in this manner, joining rnds as before until dress measures from shoulder 17” [19”].  Fasten off.

FINISHING: 
Press dress with hot iron thru damp cloth. 

Work 3 button loops at right side of back opening. 

Sew on buttons.
