Vintage 1944 Emily Fancy Crochet Dress #C200

Start at the neck to crochet this dress in an easy, jiffy stitch.  This will become one of your favorite patterns!

SIZES:  2 & 4. 
Directions for size 2 with changes for size 4 in brackets.

MATERIALS:
J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 3 [3] of White or 5 balls of any color
#7 Steel Crochet Hook
5 Small Pearl Buttons
2 yd ¼” Velvet Ribbon

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Length from shoulder to bottom of skirt:  16” [17 ½ ]
Width at hem:   45” [48”]

GAUGE: 
4 sp = 1”,    
4 rows = 1”

BODICE: 
Starting at bottom, make ch approx 24” [26”]:  [12 sts =1”].

1ST ROW:  Dc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch.  Rep from * across until there have been made 90 [96] sps.  Cut off rem ch.  Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  Make dc in each dc & 2 dc in each sp across, count turn ch as 1 dc.  Ch 5, turn.

3RD ROW:  Sk 2 dc, * dc in next dc, ch 2, sk 2 dc.  Rep from * across, dc in top st of turn ch.  Ch 3, turn.  Rep 2nd & 3rd rows alternately for 2”, end with 3rd row.

LEFT BACK: 
Work in pat across next 19 [20] sps.  Ch 3, turn. 

Cont working in pat over these sts only until piece measures in all, end with 2nd row of pat, 6” [6 ½”].  Fasten off. 

Attach thread & work similar piece at opposite end of Bodice for Right Back.

FRONT: 
Attach thread & work in pat across center 38 [40] sps until piece measures, end with 2nd row of pat 4” [4 ½”].\

NEXT ROW:  Work in pat across until there have been made 10 [11] sps.  Ch 3, turn. 

Work in pat over these sts only for shoulder until piece measures in all, end with 2nd row of pat, 6” [6 ½”].  Fasten off. 

Attach thread & work other shoulder to correspond.

SKIRT: 
1ST RND:  With right side facing, attach thread in 1st sp at lower edge of Bodice, ch 5, * in next sp of foundation ch make [dc, ch 2] twice; dc in next dc, ch 5, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next sp, ch 2, in next sp make [dc, ch 2] twice; dc in next sp, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 5, dc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * across, end with ch 5, sl st in 3rd st of turn ch at beg of rnd [hereafter skirt is worked in rnds].

2ND RND:  Ch 3, * [2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc] 3 times, ch 2, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 2, [dc in next dc, ch 2] 5 times; dc in next dc, ch 2, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 2, dc in next dc.  Rep from * around, end with ch 2, sc in last ch-5 sp, ch 2, sl st in top st of start ch.

3RD RND:  Ch 5, * [sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 2] twice; dc in next dc, ch 5, [dc in next dc, ch 2] 5 times; dc in next dc, ch 5, dc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around, end with ch 5, sl st in center st of start ch.  Rep 2nd & 3rd rnds alternately until Skirt measures 10” [11”].  Fasten off.

SLEEVES: 
Starting at bottom, make ch to measure about 11”. 

Work in pat as on Bodice, having on 1st row 36 [40] sps.  Cut off rem ch. 

Cont work in pat for 2”, end with 3rd row of pat.

TO SHAPE TOP: 
Sl st across 6 sts at beg of next 12 [14] rows.  Fasten off.

FINISHING: 
Sew shoulder seams. 

Work a row of sc along Left Back opening; work 5 ch-5 loops evenly along Right Back opening. 

Work beading at neck as follows:  Ch 5, * sk 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 2.  Rep from * around entire neck edge, dc in last st.  Fasten off. 

Sew up sleeve seams & sew sleeves in, shirring extra fullness in top 3” at shoulder. 

Sew on buttons. 

Press thru damp cloth. 

Run velvet ribbon thru neck beading & thru row of sps at bottom of Bodice.
