Vintage 1942 Carinna’s Lace Leaf 3/4 Gloves #1195
These sophisticated gloves are created in a longer ¾ length with a lace knit pattern of leaves and fagoting on the back of each glove.
SIZE:
Small, 6”
MATERIALS:
Patons Super-Fingering 3 Ply, 2 oz
1 Pair Knitting Needles #1
GAUGE/TENSION:
10 sts = 1”
NOTE:
To increase size of gloves, you can increase the size of your needles.

You can also increase stitches at the wrist by dividing the extra stitches equally between the back of the hand and the palm.

On the back, the extra stitches must be knitted plain at each side of the pattern so to evade interfering with the center leaf panel.
LEFT HAND GLOVE: BEG AT WRIST:
Cast on 50 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work 36 rows of K1, P1 rib.
BEG PATT:
1ST ROW: (RS): k26, skp, yo, k2, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k5, (skp) twice, yo, k6.
2ND ROW: (WS): p4, p2tog, yo, p14, p2tog, yo, p2, ends patt, then p26.
3RD ROW: k26, skp, yo, k2, k2tog, k1, yo, k3, yo, k4, (skp) twice, yo, k6.
4TH ROW: Rep 2nd Row.
5TH ROW: k26, skp, yo, k2, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, k3, (skp) twice, yo, k6.
6TH ROW: Rep 2nd Row.
7TH ROW: K20, kfb (beg thumb gusset), k2, kfb (2nd line of gusset), k2, skp, yo, k2, k2tog, k5, yo, k1, yo, k2, (skp) twice, yo, k6.
8TH ROW: p4, p2tog, yo, p14, p2tog, yo, p30.
9TH ROW: k28, skp, yo, k2, k2tog, k4, yo, k3, yo, k1, (skp) twice, yo, k6.
10TH ROW: Rep 8th row.
11TH ROW: k20, kfb, k4, kfb, k2, skp, yo, k2, k2tog, k3, yo, k5, yo, (skp) twice, yo, k6.
12TH ROW: p4, p2tog, yo, p14, p2tog, yo, p32.
These 12 rows create lace patt, so rep them twice, but on every 3rd, 7th, & 11th patt row, inc 2 sts on thumb gusset, work 2 sts more in ST ST bet incs after every inc row & allow for these extra sts in following rows = 66 sts.

The 1st row of 2nd patt will beg with K30 for ST ST, as 4 gusset incs were made.

All inc rows will beg with K20 as 7th row of 1st patt, since extra sts are counted bet 2 inc points.
THUMB:
K
40, turn, P17, turn & cast on 4 sts.

Work 32 ST ST on these 21 sts or for length necessary.
SHAPE TOP:
(K2tog, K1) to end of row, turn & P to end.

Turn & K2tog to end.

Break yarn, leave long end, & thread this thru rem sts.

Draw tog & leave enough to sew up thumb seam.
HAND CONT:
Hold world with RSF, pick up & K 5 sts from base of thumb with middle holding 23 K sts, then work rem 26 sts from back of hand, keep 20 sts in lace patt = 54 sts.
Work 17 rows more in patt as at beg, but omit thumb gusset incs & work 30 sts in ST ST at beg of RS rows.

At this point, if you have a longer hand, you can add more rows.
Now set sts in place for fingers as follows:
1ST FINGER:
Hold work with RSF, K34, turn, cast on 3 sts, turn & P19 for this finger, leave 18 sts for front of hand & 20 sts on back.
Work 32 rows more on these 19 sts, or for length necessary, then shape top & finish as for thumb.
2ND FINGER:
With RSF, pick up & K4 sts from base of 1st finger, K7 sts from back of hand, cast on 3 sts, turn & P19.
Work 36 rows, or for length necessary on these 19 sts, then finish top as for thumb.
3RD FINGER:
Pick up & K4 sts from base of 2nd finger, K6 from back of hand, cast on 3 sts, turn, & P19.
Work same as 1st finger.
4TH FINGER:
Pick up & K 3 sts from base of 3rd finger, K14, turn & P17.
Work 26 rows on these 17 sts, then finish top as before.
RIGHT HAND GLOVE:
Work ribbing as for 1st glove, then reverse position of patt by working rows backwards until thumb gusset is finished = 66 sts.
To divide stitches for thumb: K4, patt 20, K19, turn, P17, turn, cast on 4 sts = 21 sts.

Now work thumb same as left hand glove.
To cont hand, hold yarn with RSF & on working needle with 26 patt sts pick up & K5 sts from cast-on edge at base of thumb, then K23 across front of hand = 54 sts.
Work 17 more rows, keep 30 sts in ST ST at end of RS rows.
1ST FINGER:
Work 36 sts, turn & P16, cast on 3 sts, turn, leave 18 sts for front of hand & 20 on back.
Work on these 19 sts as for 1st finger of left hand.
Now work other fingers same as left hand, but hold work with WSF when beg each finger for K & P rows to be reversed.
FINISHING:
Darn in all ends & press gloves with hot iron & damp cloth.
Join finger & thumb seams.
Join seam down side of hand.

Turn inside out & press seam on wrong side.
ENJOY!
