Vintage 1940 Long Perfection Gloves #1137
SIZE:
Medium

MATERIALS:
Clarks ONT, 4 Balls White
or
J & P Coats Mercerized Crochet, Size 50, 3 Balls White
Clarks ONT Brilliant, 1 Ball Each of 3 Contrasting Colors for Trimming
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook #12

NOTE:
The four fingers of glove are made 1st, then sewed tog & palm formed.

The thumb is made separately, & attached to opening left in palm.

LEFT HAND:
FOREFINGER:

Start at tip, ch 5, join with sl st to form ring. 

1ST RND: Ch 4 (to count as dc & ch-1), * dc in ring, ch 1. Rep from * 11 times (12 ch-sps). Join last ch-1 to 3rd st of ch-4 first made. 

2ND RND: Ch 3, * then make cross st (to make cross st, dc in 1st ch-1, ch 5, dc in dc last made), then yo hk twice, insert hk in same ch-1 as prev dc was made & draw thread thru, yo hk & draw thru 2 lps. Rep from * around (12 cross sts). Join last cross st with sl st in 3rd st of ch-5. 

3RD & SUBSEQUENT RNDS: Ch 3, * dc in next dc, ch 5, dc in last dc, yo hk twice, dc in next dc work off 2 lps.

Rep from * around until finger is length of your forefinger when tried on.

It is better not to make fingers too long. Break off.

MIDDLE FINGER:
Work as for forefinger, making 1 more rnd.

RING FINGER:
Like forefinger, but make 2 rnds less.

LITTLE FINGER:
Work as for forefinger, but making only 10 sps in 1st rnd, & work 5 rnds less.

THUMB:
Same as forefinger, up thru 11th rnd.

12TH & SUBSEQUENT ROWS:
To shape for section that attaches to palm, work back & forth instead of around, dec 1 cross st at both ends of 1st row, & 1 cross st at end of each row thereafter, until 1 cross st rems. (To dec 1 cross st, on one row omit last ch-2 & last leg of last cross st; then on next row omit this incomplete cross st & work cross st over next cross st.)

PALM:
Join 4 fingers in order with neat sts bet fingers.

Work around all 4 as follows:
1ST RND: Fasten thread to outside of forefinger, ch 3 & work cross st over each cross st around (34 cross sts in all). Join. 

2ND TO 7TH RNDS INCL: Ch 3, & make cross st over cross st of prev rnd. 

8TH TO 15TH ROWS INCL: To make opening for thumb to fit in, work back & forth instead of around. 

16TH & 17TH ROWS: Work as before, dec 1 cross st at end of each row.

Try glove on.

Sew thumb to opening, adjusting carefully.

Hereafter, work in rnds as before.

After 1st rnd, dec 1 cross st at each side of wrist (30 cross sts in rnd).

Then cont inc 4 cross sts in each of 6th, 18th, & 23rd rnds only (to inc, make 2nd leg of cross st in ch-2 lp, complete cross st, then make 1st leg of next cross st in same ch-2 lp & 2nd leg in next dc).

Work straight until glove meas 8” from wrist, or length desired.

Then work rnd of dc closely tog. Join with sl st. Break off.

RIGHT HAND.
Same as left hand.

FLOWERS.
Start at center, with 1 color ch 10, join with sl st to form ring. 

1ST RND: Ch 3, dc in ring, * ch 3, 2 dc in ring. Rep from * 5 more times, then ch 3, sl st to 3rd st of ch-3 first made. Break off. 

2ND RND: With 2nd color, * ch 3, dc in ch-3 sp, ch 3, sl st in same sp, ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 3, sl st in same sp then sl st in next sp. Rep from * around. Join. Break off.

Make another same as this.

LEAVES. 
With 3rd color ch 12, turn & work dc in 6th ch from hk, * ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch, rep from * once more. Do not turn. 

1ST RND: 8 sc in 1st lp, 3 sc in ch-2 sp, 11 sc in next lp, 3 sc in ch-2 sp, 3 sc in complete lp. Join with sl st. 

2ND RND: Work into each st work as follows: 7 sl sts, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc, in next st 3 dc. Then, work into each st, work as follows: 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st. Break off.

Make 9 more leaves same as this.

Sew flowers & leaves on as shown.
