Vintage 1941 Lace Open-Work Gloves #567

The clever woman quickly crochets these charming gloves in a lacy, open-work pattern…sophisticated style & lovely lines…beautiful darlings that will become a season-spanning wardrobe favorites!

SIZE:  Medium

MATERIALS: 
2 balls Clark’s ONT ,
OR
J & P Coats Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet Cotton, size 50, small ball
#11 or #12  Steel Crochet Hook

GAUGE: 
11 two-dc groups = 2”;     
6 rows = 1”
  
RIGHT HAND: 
Start at wrist, ch 106 [18 ch sts = 1”].  Join with sl st.

1ST RND:  Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st; [ck 2 ch, in next ch make dc, ch 2, & dc] 13 times; sk 2 ch, dc in next ch, ch 5, sk 5 ch, dc in next ch, sk 2 ch; in next ch make dc, ch 2 & dc [2-dc group made].  Sk 2 ch, dc in next ch, ch 5, sk 5 ch, dc in next ch; [sk 2 ch, in next ch make dc, ch 2 & dc] 15 times; sk 2 ch, sl st into ch-5 lp first made.

2ND RND:  Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st; [in next ch-2 sp make dc, ch 2 & dc] 13 times; ch 5, sk 2 ch of next ch-5, sc in next ch, ch 5, in next ch-2 sp make dc, ch 2, & dc; ch 5, sk 2 ch of next ch-5, sc in next ch.  Ch 5, [in next ch-2 sp make dc, ch 2 & dc] 15 times; join.

3RD RND:  Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st; [in next ch-2 sp make dc, ch 2 & dc] 13 times; dc in next ch-5 lp, ch 5, dc in next lp; 2-dc group over next 2-dc group, dc in next lp, ch 5, dc in next lp; make 2-dc group over each of next 5 2-dc groups; over next dc-group make dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2 & dc [an inc]; make dc group over next dc-group; over next dc-group make dc, ch 2, dc, ch & dc [incs for thumb are started].  Now make dc-groups over dc-groups to end of rnd; join.

4TH RND:  Dc group over each dc-group across to within ch-5 lp; ch 5, sk 2 ch of next lp, sc in next ch, ch 5, dc-group over ch-2 of next dc-group; ch 5, sk 2 ch of next ch-5 lp, sc in next ch, ch 5 & make dc-group in each group to end of rnd; join.

5TH RND:  Work in pattern until 5 dc groups are made after open work pattern on back of hand, over next dc-group make an inc as before [3 dc with ch-2 bet]; make dc-group over each of next 3 dc groups, inc over next group & cont working in pattern to end of rnd.

6TH THRU 10TH RNDS:  Work as for last 2 rnds, make inc over each inc as before on every other rnd [having 2 more dc-groups bet incs] for thumbs. 

Work without inc until glove, when tried on, reaches to base of thumb [approx 2 ¾”].

NEXT RND:  To start thumb, work in patt around until 8 dc-groups are made after open-work patt.  Mark 8th dc-group with colored thread, & work over next 11 groups; then ch 5, sk group with colored thread & cont to work in spiral manner around last 11 dc groups, making another dc-group at center of ch-5 & working until thumb, when tried on, is 2 rnds less than desired length.

NEXT RND:  Make dc in each ch-2 sp around.

FOLLOWING RND:  Sc in every other dc around.

Fasten off, leave 6” length of thread. 

Thread needle with this thread & fasten end securely on wrong side. 

Attach thread to last dc of dc-group marked with colored thread & complete rnd, make inc over dc-group at base of thumb.

Now work in patt until glove, when tried on, reaches to base of your fingers. 

Put glove on & mark with safety pin bet palm & back of hand for fingers.

FOREFINGER: 
Work in patt around to pin-mark on palm side for forefinger, ch 5, & work over dc groups of forefinger on back of hand; cont around in patt, make dc-group in center of ch-5, until glove, when tried on, is 2 rnds less than desired length. 
Finish as for Thumb.

MIDDLE FINGER: 
Attach thread to dc-group at base of Forefinger [bet fingers].  Work in patt across dc-groups of palm, ch 5 & work across back of hand for middle finger, making 2 dc-groups over ch-5 [open patt], & make dc-group in each dc-group at base of forefinger. 

Finish as for Forefinger.

RING FINGER: 
Work as for Middle Finger.

LITTLE FINGER: 
Attach thread at base of Ring ringer & work around rem dc-groups as for other fingers.

CUFF: 
1ST RND:  Attach thread to base of dc-groups on foundation ch, preceding ch-5 of open-work patt, ch 5, dc in same place, ch 5, sk 2 ch of ch-5, sc in next ch, ch 5, dc group at base of next dc-group, ch 5, sk 2 ch of next ch-5, sc in next ch, ch 5, dc-group at base of each dc group around.  Join.

2ND & 3RD RNDS:  Work in patt as for top part of glove.  Join.

4TH RND:  Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st, dc in next ch-5 lp, ch 5, dc in next lp, dc-group over next dc-group, dc in next lp, ch 5, dc in next lp, dc-group over next dc-group, dc under ch-2 of next dc-group, * ch 5, dc under ch-2 of next dc-group, dc-group over next dc-group, dc under ch-2 of next dc-group.  Rep from * around, end with ch 5, dc in last dc-group.  Join.

5TH RND:  Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st, * ch 5, sk 2 ch of next ch-5, sc in next ch, ch 5, dc-group over next dc-group.  Rep from * around.  Join with sl st in 3rd st of ch-5.

6TH RND:  Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st, in next dc make dc, ch 2 & dc, * ch 5; [in next dc make dc, ch 2 & dc] twice.  Rep from * around.  Join last ch-5 with sl st in ch-5 lp first made.

7TH RND:  Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st, dc-group over next dc-group, * ch 5, sk 2 ch of next ch-5, sc in next ch, ch 5, dc-group over next 2 dc-groups.  Rep from * around, join.

8TH RND:  Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st, * dc group bet next 2 dc, dc-group over next dc-group, ch 5, dc group over next dc-group.  Rep from * around, join.

9TH RND:  * Dc group over next 3 dc-groups, ch 5, sk 2 ch, sc in next ch, ch 5.  Rep from * around.  Join.

10TH RND:  * Dc - group over next 3 dc-groups, ch 5.  Rep from * around, join.

11TH THRU 15TH RNDS:  Rep 9th & 10th rnds alternately.

16TH RND:  * Ch 2, in center dc-group make 4 dc with ch 2 bet, ch 2, sk 1 dc of next dc-group, dc in next dc of same group, ch 5, sc in next sc, ch 5, dc in first dc of next dc-group.  Rep from * around, join.  Fasten off.

LEFT HAND: 
Make another glove in same manner, reverse position of open-work stripe so that it lies across center back of left hand.
