Vintage 1942 Perfectly Perky Snood #575

A clever woman will very quickly & easily, crochet
this exquisite snood, that will become season-spanning
wardrobe favorite to wear or gift! 
SIZE: 
Medium Head size

MATERIALS:
2 oz 4-ply Wool
#3 Crochet Hook
1 yd Grosgrain Ribbon
23” Round Elastic

GAUGE:
4 meshes = 3”

SNOOD:
To beg ch 49.

1ST ROW:  Long treble crochet [ltr] in 12th st from hk, * ch 4, sk 4 sts on ch 1, ltr in next st; rep from *, end ch 4, sk 1 st, 1 ltr in last st.  Ch 9, turn.

2ND ROW:  1 Ltr in first ltr of prev row, * ch 4, 1 ltr in next ltr; rep from *, end ch 4, 1 ltr in 5th st of turning ch, ch 4, 1 ltr in same st as last ltr.  Ch 9, turn.

Rep last row 6 times [23 meshes].  Ch 9, turn.

9TH ROW:  Sk ch 4, 1 ltr in next ltr, * ch 4, 1 ltr in next ltr; rep from *, end ch 4, 1 ltr in 5th st of turning ch [23 meshes].  Ch 9, turn.

Rep last row 7 times, end last row ch 5 instead of 9.

17TH ROW:  Sk ch 4, 1 ltr in next ltr, work even to within 2 meshes of end, ch 4; yo 3 times, insert hk in next ltr & draw up lp, yo, take off 2 lps 3 times in succession, wrap yo hk 3 times, insert hk in 5th st of turning ch & draw up lp [6 lps on hk], yo, take off 2 lps 3 times in succession, yo, take off 3 lps [dec ltr], ch 5, turn.

18TH ROW:  Sk ch 4, ltr in next ltr, work 18 meshes, ch 4, work dec ltr in last ltr.  Ch 5, turn.

Dec 1 mesh each side of each of next 6 rows as in last row.  Ch l, do not turn.

BORDER: 
Sew ends of 22“ piece of round elastic tog.

Work around elastic, work 2 sc in each mesh on entire outer edge, join with sl st to first sc.  Fasten off.

Make tailored bow of ribbon & sew to front of snood, as shown in photo.
