1940s Cosmopolitan Hat & Handbag Set #284
Quick & easy to create, this stylish hat with matching
purse will become a season favorite!
MATERIALS:
BAG:
4 spools Mary Lamb Brocade [B]
1 Lining # 612
HAT:
2 spools Mary Lamb Brocade
1 skein Mary Lamb Wired Chenille [C]
#4 Crochet Hook
BAG:
With B, ch 48 to measure 9”.
1ST ROW: Sk 1 st, 1 sc in next st & in each ch, ch
1 turn.
2ND ROW: 1 Sc in each st.
Rep 2nd row for 15”.
CIRCLE FOR SIDES OF BAG:
Ch 3, join. 6 Sc in ring, 2 sc in each st.
1ST RND: * 1 Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, rep from
* 5 more times.
2ND RND: * 1 Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep
from * 5 more times.
3RD RND: * 1 Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep
from * 5 more times.
Cont to work in above manner having 1 st
more bet incs until circle measures 4 ½”.
Make other circle same.
Make
paper patt for each crocheted piece.
Cut
lining according to paper patts & sew tog.
Shirr
lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.
Insert
finished lining in bag.
Note:
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted
between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
HANDLE:
Ch 8, work in sc for 18”.
Join circle to bag with right side facing
with sc.
Sew handle to bag.
HAT:
With B, work circle same as bag until 100
sts, 1 sc st for st until piece measures
4 ½” from center.
JOIN CHENILLE:
Work 1 row of sc around entire hat.
Ch 3, 1 dc in each st.
Work 2 more rows of dc.
On center 84 sts, ch 3, 1 dc in next 2 sts
[holding back last loop on last dc], YO, count back 3 sts, insert hook in base
of ch 3, bring LONG LOOP thru, over thru 3, over thru 2 * 1 dc in each of next
3 sts, count back 3 sts, make LONG dc over these 3 sts, rep from * turn, * 1
row of sc. Work over 3 more long loop
sts at each side, rep from * 1 more time.
Work 1 row of long loops.
TRIM:
With B ch 38.
Work 8 rows of sc.
Trim to Hat as shown in photo.
Use Hat stiffener.
