Vintage 1940s Button Tassel Calot  #127

MATERIALS:  

Fleisher’s Straw-Twist or Bucilla Strawkraft [all rayon] 2 skeins.
Fleisher’s or Bucilla Featherlite Steel Crochet Hook, size 1.

¾” Buttons [or Large Beads], 6 of each 3 contrasting colors.

GAUGE: 

11 hdc = 2”;  

9 rnds = 2”

HAT:

Ch 4, join with sl st into ring.

1^st Rnd:  Ch 1, work 1 hdc in ring; join with slip st in top of first st [8 sts].  Join with sl st in top of first st; ch 1 at beg of every rnd & work first st of rnd in same st with sl st [ch 1 does not count as a st].

2^nd Rnd:  2 hdc in each st [16 sts].

3^rd Rnd:  1 hdc in first st, 2 hdc in next st, * 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; rep from *

around [24 sts].

4^th Rnd:  Same as 3^rd rnd [36 sts].

5^th Rnd:  * 1 hdc in each of 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around [48 sts].

6^th Rnd:  * 1 hdc in each of 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, rep from * around [56 sts].

7^th Rnd:  1 hdc in each of 2 sts, * 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of 6 sts; rep from *, end 1 hdc in each of last 4 sts [64 sts].

8^th Rnd:  * 1 hdc in each of 7 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around [72 sts].

9^th Rnd:  1 hdc in each of 3 sts, * 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of 8 sts; rep from *, end last rep 1 hdc in each of last 5 sts [80 sts].

10^th Rnd:  * 1 hdc in each of 9 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around [88 sts].

11^th Rnd:  1 hdc in each of 4 sts, * 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of 10 sts: rep from *, end last rep 1 hdc in each of last 6 sts [96 sts].

12^th Rnd:  * 1 hdc in each of 15 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around [102 sts].

13^th and 14^th Rnd:  Work rnds even.

1st Patt Rnd:  Y 1 hdc in each of 3 sts, yo, draw up a long loop under next st in 2^nd rnd below, draw up a loop in top of next st of rnd below, yo, take off all 4 loops, * yo, draw up a loop in same st as long loop 2 rnds below, draw up a loop in top of next st in rnd below, take off all 4 loops; rep from * once [a bean]; rep from Y 16 times. 

Work 3 rnds hdc even.

2^nd Patt Rnd:  1 hdc in each of first 2 sts, * work 1 bean, 1 hdc in each of 3 sts; rep from *, end last rep 1 hdc in last st. 

Work 3 rnds hdc even.

Work 1 more patt rnd, having beans bet beans on  2^nd patt rnd.

Work 1 rnd hdc.  Fasten off.

With 2 strands make 9 chains, each 19” long. 

FINISHING: 

Steam lightly. 

Knot center of one chain over 10^th rnd from lower edge in sp bet 2 beans; knot 1 chain over same rnd in each of next 2 sps. 

Knot 3 chains over 14^th rnd, directly above, with 3 sts bet each knot. 

Knot 3 chains over 18^th rnd, directly above, with 2 sts bet. 

Sew a button on end of each chain.
