TURBAN:
With
single strand of yarn, ch 171, join being careful not to twist ch, sc in 1st
ch, * ch 1, dc in same ch, sk 2 chs, sc in next ch, rep from * all around, sl st
in first sc, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in 1st sc, * ch 1, dc
in same sc, sc in next sc [pattern/patt] rep from * all around, sl st in 1st
sc, turn. Rep 2nd row until
work meas 7 ½” from beg
NEXT
ROW: 1 Sc in each st, join, break yarn.
CROWN:
With
double strand of yarn, ch 3, 8 sdc in 1st ch, [sdc: yo, insert hook in st, pull thru & work
off all hoops at one time], join in 1st sdc.
NOTE
FROM MISS JULIA: This vintage pattern’s
SDC or single double crochet is the same as the present days’ HDC or half double
crochet.
2ND
ROW: Ch 2, 2 sdc in 1st sdc,
2 sdc in each rem st. Do not join
this or following rows.
3RD
ROW: Place marker at beg of each row, *
1 sdc in 1st sdc, 2 sdc in next sdc, rep from * all around.
4TH
ROW: Inc 1 sdc in every 3rd
st.
5TH
ROW: Inc in every 4th st.
6TH
ROW: Inc in every 5th st.

ROW: Inc in every 6th st.

side section to crown, easing in any fullness.
Gather at joining of rows for front drape & attach clip/pin as shown

is worked with single strand of yarn.
FRONT:

70, sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, dc in same st, sk 2 chs, sc in
next ch, rep from * to end of row, ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in 1st sc, * ch 1, dc
in same sc, sc in next sc [patt], rep from * to end of row, ch 3, turn.
3RD
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook,
ch 1, dc in same st, sk 1 ch, sc in next sc, [an inc], * ch 1, dc in same sc,
sc in next sc, rep from * to end of row, ch 3, turn.
Rep
3rd row 5 times, end last row with ch 1, turn.
Work
even in patt until work meas 12” from beg.
Do not break yarn. Make 4
plaits about 3” apart.
Sew
two outer plaits 4” from top & two center plaits 5” from top.
Muff
should measure about 10” across top.

BACK SECTION:
Pick
up yarn & work 21 patts across top.
Cont
working in patt until section meas 3 ½” from plaits, break yarn.
LOWER
BACK SECTION:
Work
same as Front until work measures 4” from beg.
NEXT
2 ROWS: Dec 1 patt at beg of each
row. [To Dec: insert hook in 1st sc, pull thru,
insert hook in next sc, pull thru & work off all loops at one time], ch 1,
dc in same st, cont in patt across row.
Work
4 rows even.
Rep
last 6 rows twice.
NEXT
2 ROWS: Dec 1 patt at beg of each
row.
Work
1 row even, break yarn.
FINISHING:
Sew
narrow edges of Front & Back sections tog 1 ¾” on each side, leave 7” free
at center for pocket of muff.
Cut
2 Lining Sections to fit entire piece.
Cut
1 lining section same as lower Back section [pocket].
Sew
Front & Back sections of Muff tog at lower edge & up sides to within 3 ½”
from top, then turn right side out.
Fold
1 lining section in half & sew tog, leave an opening for filling.
Fill
with Kapok & quilt slightly.
Sew
lower section to pocket section, leave opening at top for zipper [back].
Sew
zipper in position.
Sew
tog same as crocheted section, but do not turn right side out.
Tack
filled section to front of lining.
Insert
lining in bag & sew around side & zipper opening.
