1936 Trendy Turban Hat #398

Quick & easy to create, this feminine turban will become a season-spanning favorite & you’ll be the best dressed lady on the block!

HEADSIZE:  22”

MATERIALS:
Clark’s ONT Boucle [5 balls] of Main Color MC & [1 ball] of Contrast Color CC,
#3 Steel Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle [large eye]

CROWN:
With MC, ch 3, join with sl st to form ring.  Ch 1.

1ST RND:  6 Sc in ring.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in each sc, thus inc.

3RD RND:  * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next, rep from * around.

4TH & FOLLOWING RNDS:  Work sc in each sc of prev rnd, make 6 incs in each rnd at equal intervals, but do not inc over inc of prev rnd, until work meas 3” in  radius [from center ring to edge of work].

CONTINUE making sc in each sc until Crown meas 6” from center ring to edge of work. [If a larger or a smaller head size is desired, inc or dec sts as may be necessary.]  Break off.

BAND:
With MC, ch 32, turn.

1ST ROW:  Dc in 3rd ch from hook & dc in each ch across.  Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  Dc in each st of prev row.  Ch 3, turn.

Rep 2nd row until Band meas 35”.  Break off.

BEFORE joining Band to Crown, block band on ironing board, using a damp cloth & moderate iron.

For best results, use hat block to block Crown; or, fold Crown in half, & press same as band, making sure to avoid a crease at sides.

THREAD tapestry needle with CC.

Start at beg of 1st row of band, work a running st over 1st dc, under 2nd dc, over next dc, etc, across 1st row.

Run thread along edge to 3rd row & work same as 1st row.

Cont this way, work only into every other row of Band.

MARK center of long edge on Band.

Try Crown on, then place center of Band 1 ½” to left of center front on Crown.

Twist Band a complete turn at this mark & tie once at back.

SEW upper & lower edges of Band to Crown as in photo.

TACK ends to Crown.

ENJOY!
