Using double thread, ch 3.
MATERIALS:
Clark’s ONT [8 balls], or J & P Coats
Mercerized, Size 10 [6 balls]
CROWN:
1ST RND: 10 Hdc in 1st ch from hook, join with sl st to turning ch. Ch 1.
With single thread, ch 25, turn.
2ND RND: * Make 1 hdc in next hdc by inserting hook
only in front loop of hdc, make 1 hdc in same hdc, this time inserting
hook only in back loop [thus making 2 hdc in 1 st to inc[. Rep from * around [20 hdc]. Join with sl st to ch-1.
3RD RND: Work in patt straight as follows: * 1 hdc in next half dc insert hook only in
front loop of hdc, 1 hdc in next hdc inserting hook only in back loop of hdc,
rep from * around, thus alternating sts in front & back loops.
4TH RND: Same as 2nd rnd [40 hdc]. Join as before.
HEREAFTER, do not join rnds, but work
around & around marking the end of rnds.
5TH, 6TH & 7TH
RNDS: Same as 3rd rnd.
8TH RND: Inc in every other st.
9TH, 10TH & 11TH
RNDS: Work in patt straight.
12TH RND: Work in patt, inc in every other hdc only.
13TH, 14TH & 15TH
RNDS: Work in patt straight.
16TH RND: Same as 12th rnd.
17TH THRU 32ND RNDS” Work in patt straight.
33RD RND: Work in patt, inc in every 5th hdc
only.
34TH THRU 39TH
RNDS: Work in patt straight.
HAT should now meas 11 ½” at lower edge
[folded width].
If a larger or smaller
head size is desired, inc or dec [to dec, work off 2 hdc tog as 1] as nec.
WHEN hat meas 8 ½’ deep, ch 3, turn &
with inside of hat towards you, work 1 rnd of pc st as follows: * 1 dc in next hdc [hereafter insert hook
under 2 loops of hdc], 1 pc st in next hdc, ch 1, sk 1 hdc, rep from *
around. Join & fasten off.
BOW:
1ST ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook & in
each ch across. Ch 2, turn.
2ND ROW: Sc in each st. Ch 2, turn.
REPEAT 2nd row until work
measures 9”.
FOLD work in half, having 1st
& last rows coming tog, & work 2 rows of sc across, to join ends.
This completes one half of Bow.
Make the other half the same.
FOLD a pleat at joined end of each bow
& attach to hat as shown in photo.
The joined ends of bows are turned under when arranging pleat, & are
placed proxy ½” apart, giving effect of drawn through slits in hat.
HAT may be draped as desired.
