1936 Swanky Beret #394

Quick & easy to create, this feminine beret will become a season-spanning favorite
& you’ll be the best dressed lady on the block!

HEADSIZE:  22”

MATERIALS:
Clark’s ONT Cronita [3 balls], or J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen [2 balls]
#4 Steel Crochet Hook

BERET:
To beg, ch 6 & join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND:  8 Sc in ring.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in each sc.

3RD RND:  Sc in next sc, ch 2, sc in same sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, ch 3, sc in same sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, ch 2, sc in same sc, sc in each of next 5 sc, ch 2, sc in same sc, sc in each of next 5 sc.

4TH RND:  Sc under ch-2, ch 2, sc in same place, * sc in each sc to next ch-2, sc under ch-2, ch 2, sc in same place.  Rep from * around.

5TH RND:  Work sc in each sc, & under each ch-2 make 1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc [makes 4 sectional ridges] & make 1 inc in each of 2 wide sections [to inc, work 2 sc in 1 sc].

6TH THRU 12TH RNDS:  Same as 5th rnd, take care not to inc directly over inc of prev rnd.

13TH THRU 48TH RNDS:  Inc in sc right after ch-2 [make a long ridge bet two larger sections] for every other rnd.

WORK should not meas from 5 ¼” to 5 ½” in radius [from center ring to edge].  If not, add more rnds.

49TH RND:  Sc in each sc, & only 1 sc under each ch-2.  Do not make any more ch-2 at ridges.

50TH, 51ST & 52ND RNDS:  Sc in each sc.

53RD THRU 60TH RNDS:  Dec 1 sc at each ridge.

61ST THRU 70TH RNDS:  Dec 2 sc in each of two wide sections in each rnd, [to dec, insert hook in next st, pull thru, insert hook in next st, pull thru, then draw thread thru all 3 loops at once], but do not make dec directly over a dec of prev rnd.

BERET should now meas 22” head size.  If too large, make few more dec rnds.

WORK EVENLY for approx 14 rnds, without inc or dec.

ENJOY!
