Quick & easy to create, this feminine hat will become a season-spanning favorite & you’ll be the best dressed lady on the block!
HEADSIZE: 22”
MATERIALS:
Clark’s
ONT [4 balls], or J & P Coats Mercerized, Size 10 [3 balls] for Crown
J
& P Coats Tatting Cotton [3 balls] for Veil

yd 1” Grosgrain ribbon for inside band

Sizing
CROWN: TOP:
Ch
4, join with sl st to form ring. Ch 1.
1ST
RND: 6 Sc in ring.
2ND
RND: 2 Sc in each sc [12 sc].
3RD
RND: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc,
rep from * 5 more times.
4TH
RND: * Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in
next sc [this is an inc over an inc of prev rnd], rep from * 5 more times [6
inc points].
5TH
RND: * Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in
next sc, rep from * 5 more times.
6TH
& FOLLOWING RNDS: Work in this manner, inc at each inc point
& having 1 sc more than prev rnd in each sc section, until work meas 6
½”. Break off.
BAND:
Ch
30, turn.
1ST
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook
& sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
REPEAT
2nd row until band meas 21 ½” long [or desired head size].
SEW
first & last rows of band tog.
Fasten off.
SEW
one edge of band to top of crown.
MAKE
¼” hem at lower edge of band & sew ribbon inside band, adjusting head size.
VEIL:
With
Tatting Cotton, ch 170, turn.
1ST
ROW: Sc in 14th ch from hook,
* ch 8, sk 5 ch of foundation ch, sc in next ch, rep from * to end of ch. Ch 9, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in 1st loop, * ch 8,
sc in next loop, rep from * across. Ch
9, turn.
REPEAT
2nd row until veil meas 18” when stretched out [approx 67
rows]. Fasten off.
PIN
veil out [to meas approx 14” x 18”].
APPLY
sizing over entire surface & allow to dry.
START
at center of 14” edge, sew wire along edge to next corner, cont across 18”
edge, & halfway down the other 14” edge.
Fasten off.
FOLD
1 ½” pleats across the center, so that pleats are parallel to short ends [6” across
after pleating].
THEN
fold 2 ½” pleat across center parallel to top wire, leave 3” at bottom & 6”
at top.
PLACE
veil on band at shown in photo & trim with ornament.
