Vintage 1935 Irish Lace Cuff Gloves #391

Quick & easy to create, these feminine gloves will become a seasonal favorite & you’ll be the best dressed lady on the block!



MATERIALS: 
Clark’s ONT, or J & P Coats Mercerized Crochet, 2 balls, White, size 70
#10 Steel Crochet Hook

LEFT HAND: 
Beg at wrist, ch 162, & sl st in 1st ch to form ring.

1ST RND:  * Ch 5, sk 5 ch, 1 sc in  next ch, & rep from * around.

2ND RND:  * Ch 5, 1 sc in next lp, & rep from * around.

3RD RND:  Same as 2nd rnd but make ch-4 lps.

4TH THRU 8TH RNDS:  Same as 2nd rnd make ch-3 lps.

9TH & 10TH RNDS:  Make ch-4 lps.

11TH THRU 17TH RNDS:  Make ch-5 lps.

18TH RND:  Ch 5, 1 sc in same lp as last sc.  * Ch 5, 1 sc in next lp, * rep from * 14 more times. ** ch 3, 1 sc in same lp as last sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next lp, ** & rep from ** to ** twice more.  Then ch 3, 1 sc in next lp & rep from ** to ** 3 more times.  Then cont around with ch-5 lps.

19TH RND:  Work 16 ch-5 lps, then ch 4, 1 sc in 1st ch-3 lp, * ch 3, 1 sc in same lp, ch 5, sk 3 ch-3 lps of prev rnd, 1 sc in next lp, & rep from * twice more.  Ch 3, 1 sc in same lp as last sc, ch 4, 1 sc in next lp & work around with ch-5 lps.

20TH RND:  Make extra lp [an inc] in 2nd lp of prev row to form dart on inside of thumb begun in 18th rnd.

Rep this extra lp every other rnd, make it 1 lp to left of last inc, until 7 extra lps [14 rnds] have been made. 

On back of hand, work around to last ch-5 lp on 20th rnd, sk ch-4 lp, ch 5, * 1 sc in ch-3 lp, ch 3, 1 sc in same lp, ch 3, 1 sc in middle ch of ch-5, ch 3, * 1 sc in same place as last sc, ch 3, & rep from * to * twice more.  Then 1 sc in same place as last sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next ch-3 lp, ch 3, 1 sc in same lp, ch 4, 1 sc in next lp.  Then work around with ch-5 lps.

21ST THRU 37TH RNDS:  Rep design on back of hand as in 19th & 20th rnds alternately, 8 more times [19 rnds of design in all].  Make thumb opening on 33rd rnd.

33RD RND:  Work to extra lp in last row, ch 30 [thumb opening] sk 11 lps, then work on around as before. 

34TH RND:  Work to last lp just before ch-30, ch 5, 1 sc in 3rd ch, * ch 5, sk ch-5, 1 sc in next ch & rep from * for length of extra ch.

38TH THRU 46TH RNDS:  Cont on around in ch-5 lps.

FINGERS: 
Put glove on so that design will come in center of back of hand & thumb opening in right position, & mark fingers by putting safety pin on palm & back of hand bet each finger.

FOREFINGER: 
Work ch-5 lps around make ch 6 to join lps tog that have been held tog by pin bet forefinger & middle finger

Do not remove pin. 

Work in spiral for about 23 rnds, or until ½” less than desired length. 

It is better not to have fingers too long. 

* Then make 1 rnd of ch-4 lps, 2 rnds of ch-3 lps, 1 rnd of ch-2 lps, 1 rnd of ch-1 lps, then sk every other lp until edges are brought tog.  Break off *.

MIDDLE FINGER: 
Attach thread to loop at pin on palm side bet ring finger & middle finger.  Work lps across, make sc in lp where prev pin is, 2 lps over ch 6 bet fingers, ch 5, sc in lp where same pin is on back of hand, work lps across, make ch 6 to join lps tog that have been held tog by pin bet middle finger & ring finger.  Work in spiral, make lps until ½” less than desired length.  Then rep from * to * of forefinger.

RING & LITTLE FINGER: 
Same as forefinger & middle finger.

THUMB: 
Attach thread to lp on palm side of hand & work as for fingers.

CUFF: 
1ST & 2ND RNDS:  Attach thread at wrist & work ch-6 lps for 2 rnds.

3RD RND:  Ch 3, 1 dc in same lp, ch 3, * 1 dc in next lp, ch 5, 1 dc in same lp, ch 3, & rep from * around, end with sc in ch-3 first made.

4TH RND:  Ch 4, * sk ch-2, 3 dc over ch-5, ch 3, 6 dc in same lp, ch 3, & 3 more dc in same lp [12 dc in all], ch 2, 1 sc in next ch-5 lp, ch 3, 1 sc in same lp, ch 2, & rep from * around, end with 1 sc in ch-4 first made.

5TH RND:  Ch 9, * 1 sc bet 6th & 7th dc of 12-dc group, ch 3, 1 sc in same place, ch 7, 1 sc in ch-3 lp [bet 2 sc], ch 7, & rep from * around, end rnd with sc in sc just before ch-9.

6TH RND:  Ch 5, dc in ch-9 lp,, ch 5, dc in same lp, ch 1, * ch-5 p, ch 1, 1 dc in next ch-7 lp, ch 5, 1 dc in same lp, ch 1, & rep from * around, end with 1 sc in ch-5 lp first made.

7TH RND:  Ch 3, 1 sc under ch-5, * ch 3, 1 sc in same lp, ch 6, 1 sc under next ch-5, & rep from * around, end with dc in ch-3 first made.

8TH RND:  Ch 4, ch-5 p, * 3 dc with ch-1 bet dcs in next ch-6 lp, ch 1, 1 p, ch 1, & rep from * around, end with sc in ch-4 first made.

9TH RND:  Ch 8, * 1 dc over next ch-1 [bet 1st & 2nd dc], ch 5, dc over next ch-1 [bet 2nd & 3rd dcs of same group], ch 3, & rep from * around, end with sc in ch-8 first made.

10TH THRU 14TH RNDS:  Rep from 4th to 8th rnds incl.

15TH RND:  Same as 4th rnd.  Break off.

Make other glove to correspond, reverse position of thumb. 


Starch cuffs stiffly.
