Free Pattern - 1935 Monte Carlo Gloves #390

1935 Monte Carlo Gloves #390

Quick & easy to create, these feminine gloves will become a season-spanning favorite 
& you’ll be the best dressed lady on the block!

  
MATERIALS: 
J & P Coats Tatting Cotton, 7 balls Black, size 70
#12 Steel Crochet Hook                             
½ yd Black Round Elastic

RIGHT HAND: 
Beg at wrist,, ch 145 & join with sl st to form ring. 

Then ch 1 & hold elastic above ch, make 1 sc in each st [work over elastic], join with sl st.

1ST RND:  Ch 5, * sk 2 sc, 1 dc in next sc, ch 2, rep from * until 44 sps are made, then ** ch 2, sk 1 sc, dc in next, & rep from ** until 8 more sps are made [52 sps].

2ND THRU 4TH RNDS:  Ch 2, dc in 1st sp, * ch 2, dc in next sp, rep from * around.

5TH RND:  Ch 2, make 2 dc with ch-2 bet in next sp [an inc], make 5 sps, ch 2, 2 dc with ch-2 bet in next sp [starting thumb], 30 sps, ch 2, 2 dc in next sp, ch 2, 2 dc in same sp [1 shell], ch 2, sk 1 sp, shell in next sp, * work around with ch 2 sps. 

6TH RND:  Make 2 dc with ch-2 bet in sp of inc of prev rnd.  6 Sps, inc over next inc, & cont in ch-2 sps, sk the sp just before 1st shell, ch 2, make shell over shell, ch 2, shell over next shell, ch 2, sk next sp, & work around in ch-2 sps.

7TH RND:  Same as 6th rnd but do not sk a sp before & after shells & also make 7 sps bet incs [instead of 6 sps].

8TH THRU 16TH RNDS:  Rep 6th & 7th rnds alternately, work inc over inc & shell over shell [have 1 sp more in each rnd].

17TH & 18TH RNDS:  Work as before omit incs for thumb.

THUMB: 
Work sps from sp directly above 1st inc of thumb to 2nd inc, ch 10, & make 1 dc in sp directly above 1st inc, & work around for thumb, having 21 sps.

2ND & SUBSEQUENT RNDS:  Work sp over sp in spiral until thumb is 1 rnd less than desired length [about 17 rnds]. 

It is better not to have thumb & fingers too long. 

* Then work 1 dc in each sp [omit ch-2s], then 1 sc in each dc, & then sk 1 sc, sc in next, work around in scs until no scs are left.  Break off *. 

PALM: 
Join thread to top of dc where ch-10 was made & work around & around until there are 22 rows of shells. 

Hereafter work sps omit shells until when glove is tried on, it reaches to base of fingers.

FINGERS: 
Put glove on & mark fingers by putting safety pin on palm & back of hand bet each finger.

FOREFINGER: 
Work ch-2 sps around make ch 8 to join loops tog which were held tog by pin bet forefinger & middle finger.  Do not remove pin. 

Work in spiral [make 3 sps over ch-8] for about 18 rnds, or until 1 rnd less than desired length.  Then rep from * to * of thumb.

MIDDLE FINGER: 
Attach thread to sp at pin on palm side bet ring finger & middle finger. 

Work sps across, make dc in loops where prev pin is, 3 sps over ch-8 bet fingers, ch 8, dc in sp where same pin is on back of hand, work sps across, make ch 8 to join sps tog that have been held tog by pin bet middle finger & ring finger. 

Work in spiral over sps until 1 rnd less than desired length. 

Then rep from * to * of thumb.

RING & LITTLE FINGERS: 
Same as forefinger & middle finger.

CUFF: 
1ST RND:  Attach thread to 1st sc at wrist, ch 4 [count as tr], tr in same sc from which ch-4 started, ch 2, 2 tr in same sc, * sk 5 sc, 2 tr in next sc, ch 2, 2 tr in same sc [another shell made], rep from * around [24 shells]. 

Entire cuff is worked in spiral in shells.

2ND & 3RD RNDS:  Make shell over 1st shell, * shell over next shell, rep from * around.

4TH, 5TH & 6TH RNDS:  Shell over shell with ch-1 bet each shell.

7TH THRU 18TH RNDS:  Work shell over shell of prev rnd inc 1 ch bet shells every 3 rnds, make 5 ch bet shells in last 3 rnds.

NEXT RND:  * Dc in ch-5 sp, ch 3, dc over dc just made.  Dc in ch-2 sp of shell, ch 3, 5 dc over dc just made.  Rep from * around, break off.

Make other glove to correspond, reverse position of thumb.
