Vintage 1935 Deauville
Long Lace Gloves #392
Quick & easy to
create, these feminine gloves will become a season-spanning favorite & you’ll be the best dressed lady on the block!
MATERIALS:
Clark’s
ONT [4 balls]
OR
J
& P Coats [3 balls] Mercerized Crochet, size 40 or 50 White
#8
Steel Crochet Hook
The
4 fingers of glove are crocheted first, then sewed tog & palm formed.
The
thumb is crocheted separately, & attached to opening left in palm.
Cont
for long or gauntlet cuff.
FINGERS: FOREFINGERS:
Beg
at tip, ch 5, & join with sl st to form ring.
1ST
RND: Ch 2, 10 dc in ring. Join to 2nd st of ch-2 first made
2ND
RND: Ch 3, sk 1 st dc, sc in next, * ch
2, sk 1, sc in next, rep from * around [6 sps].
Do not join at end of rnds, but cont as spiral.
3RD
RND: * Ch 2, dc over next loop, ch 2, dc
over next loop, ch 2, dc over same loop, rep from * 2 times [9 sps].
4TH
RND: Ch 2, dc in 1st sp, 8 ch
2, 4 tr in next sp with ch-1 bet each tr, ch 2, sk 1 sp, 1 dc in next, rep from
* 2 times [15 sps].
5TH
RND: * Ch 3, sk 1 sp, 1 dc over ch-1
after 1st tr, ch 3, dc over next ch-1, ch 3, dc over last ch-1, ch
3, dc in next sp, rep from * 2 times [12 sps].
6TH
RND: Ch 2, dc in 1st sp, * ch
2, dc in next sp, rep from * around [12 sps].
7TH
RND: * Ch 2, sk 1 sp, 4 tr in next sp
with ch-1 bet each tr, ch 2, sk 1 sp, dc in next, rep from * 2 times [15
sps].
Rep
5th, 6th, 7th rnds in order until there are
about 17 rnds.
Try
on, & if too short, cont working these rnds in order till length
desired.
It
is better not to have the fingers too long.
Break
thread.
MIDDLE
FINGER:
Like
forefinger, work about 2 more rnds.
RING
FINGER:
Like
forefinger.
LITTLE
FINGER:
Like
forefinger, but about 2 rnds shorter.
THUMB:
Same
as forefinger up thru 15th rnd.
16TH
THRU 24TH ROWS: To shape for
section that attaches to palm, work back & forth instead of in rnds, dec as
many sps as may be necessary at beg & end of each row so that about 2 sps
rem on 24th row.
PALM:
Join
4 fingers in order with neat stitches bet fingers. Work around all four.
1ST
RND OF PALM: Fasten thread to outside of
forefinger, ch 5, dc in 1st sp, ch 3, 1 dc in each sp of each finger
across palm, turn around little finger & cont across back of hand [about 44
sps]. Do not fasten thread, but cont in
spiral.
2ND
RND: Ch 3, dc in each sp of prev rnd,
with ch-2 bet.
3RD
RND: * Ch 2, sk 1 sp, 4 tr in next sp
with ch-1 bet each tr, ch 2, sk 1 sp, dc in next, rep from * 10 times, make 11
groups all tog [55 sps].
4TH
RND: Ch 2, sk 1 sp, * dc over ch-1 after
1st tr, ch 2, dc over next ch-1, ch 2, dc over last ch-1, ch 2, dc
in dc of prev rnd that comes bet grps of tr, ch 2, rep from * around [44 sps].
5TH
RND: Ch 2, 1 dc in each sp of prev rnd
with ch-2 bet.
Rep
rnds 3, 4 & 5 consecutively up thru 13th rnd.
Leave
opening at forefinger side for thumb.
From
here on turn at end of each row but follow patt, up thru 23rd
row.
On
next row, close opening & cont in spiral rnds as far as wrist, rep rnds 3,
4 & 5 consecutively & end with 5th rnd.
Whip
thumb to opening, adjusting carefully.
FOR
LONG GLOVE:
Cont
3rd, 4th, 5th rnds consecutively for 9”, end
with 5th rnd & finish as follows: * Ch 3, sk 1 sp, 5 tr in next sp with ch-3
bet each tr, ch 3, sk 1 sp, sc in next sp, & rep from *.
FOR
RUFFLED GAUNTLET CUFF:
Make
1 dc in each sp at wrist line, ch 2, 1 dc in same sp, ch 2, & rep
around.
Then
cont with patt start with 3rd rnd of palm, then 4th &
5th, work these 3 rnds consecutively for 2”.
Finish
edge as for long glove.
