Vintage 1950s Vogue Ribbon & Crochet Blouse #360


SIZES: 
Directions are for size 12. 
Changes for sizes 14 & 16 are in brackets.

MATERIALS: 
Columbia-Minerva Marcelaine Velveen, 5 [5, 6] 1 oz balls
7 yds 1 1/8” Grosgrain Ribbon
6 Buttons
6” Zipper
#4 Steel Crochet Hook

GAUGE: 
4 Mesh = 1”;    
4 Rows = 1”

BACK: 
1ST MESH STRIP:  Ch 173 [185, 197].  Ch should meas 15” [16”, 17”].

1ST ROW:  1 Dc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, sk 2 ch, 1 dc in next ch; rep from * across.  Ch 5, turn:  56 [60, 64] mesh.

2ND ROW:  1 Dc in 2nd dc, * ch 2, sk 2 ch, 1 dc in next dc; rep from * across.  Ch 5, turn. 

Rep row 2 for patt. 

Work 1 more row. 

4TH & 5TH ROWS:  Ch 3 when turning to dec 1 mesh each end:  54 [58, 62] mesh. 

Work even for 3 rows.  End off. 

Cut grosgrain ribbon 15 ½” [16 ½”, 17 ½”], extra ½” for side seams. 

Slant grosgrain ribbon ¼” each side, then sew foundation ch of mesh strip to edge of ribbon. 

2ND MESH STRIP:  Ch 185 [197, 209]. 

Work in patt. 

Work even for 3 rows.

4TH & 5TH ROWS:  Ch 5, to turn & work 1 dc  in 1st dc [inc 1 mesh each end]:  62 [66, 70] mesh. 

Work even for 3 more rows.  End off. 

Cut grosgrain to fit between top edge of 1st strip & foundation ch of 2nd strip & sew in place.

3RD MESH STRIP:  Ch 197 [209, 221]. 

Inc 1 mesh at beg of 3rd & 4th rows & 6th & 7th rows:  68 [72, 76] mesh. 

Work even for 1 more row.  End off. 

Cut grosgrain ribbon & sew between 2nd & 3rd mesh strips as before.

4TH MESH STRIP:  Ch 215 [227, 239]. 

Work 70 [74, 78] mesh. 

Inc 1 mesh at beg of 2nd & 3rd row.

SLEEVES: 
At end of next 2 rows, ch 41. 

Work 12 mesh across each ch:  96 [100, 104] mesh. 

After 8th row of mesh, end off. 

Cut grosgrain ribbon & sew bet 3rd & 4th mesh strips as before.

5TH MESH STRIP:  Ch 305 [317, 329]. 

Work 100 [104, 108] mesh. 

Work even for 8 rows.  End off. 

Cut grosgrain & sew bet 4th & 5th mesh strips.

6TH MESH STRIP:  Ch 305 [317, 329]. 

Work 100 [104, 108] mesh across ch.  Ch 1, turn.

SHAPE SHOULDERS: 
Sl st across 1st 3 [5, 7] mesh, work across to within last 3 [5, 7] mesh.  Ch 1, turn. 

Sl st across 6 mesh at beg of row & work to within 6 mesh at end of row on each of next 5 rows.  Ch 5, turn. 

Work 34 mesh across 8th row.  End off. 

Cut ribbon & sew bet 5th & 6th strips.

FRONT: 
Work as for back for 5 mesh strips. 

Cut 2 pieces of ribbon 9 ½” [10”, 10 ½”] long & sew across each end of 5th mesh strip for shoulder.

SHAPE NECK: 
Work 1 mesh strip separately for each shoulder.

LEFT SIDE: 
Ch 119 [125, 131]. 
Work 38 [40, 42] mesh across ch.  Ch 5, turn.

2ND ROW:  Work to within 3 [5, 7] mesh of end.  Ch 1, turn [shoulder edge].

3RD ROW:  Sl st across 6 mesh, work to end of row.  Ch 5, turn [neck edge].

4TH ROW:  Work to within 6 mesh of end.  Ch 1, turn. 

Continue to sl st or work to within 6 mesh at end of shoulder edge 3 times more. 

8TH ROW:  Work across 5 mesh.  End off. 

Work right side to correspond, reversing shaping.

FINISHING: 
Sew shoulder seams, leaving last 5 mesh at neck edge free. 

Sew underarm seams, leaving 6” open at lower left side. 

Sew in zipper. 
Sew 3 buttons to back & fasten thru the 5 mesh of front. 

Turn under a narrow hem at sleeve & neck edges & sew
