MATERIALS:
Bucilla
Strawkraft or Fleisher’s Straw-Twist, 4 balls.
Bucilla or Fleisher’s Steel Crochet Hook, #0.
Bucilla or Fleisher’s Steel Crochet Hook, #0.
GAUGE:
7
sts = 1 ½”;
9
rows = 2”
Entire hat is made using 2 strands.
CROWN:
Ch
100, join with slip st.
1st
Rnd: 1 sc in each st, mark end of round;
do not join.
Work
in back loop of sts.
Continue
around working 1 sc in each st until 6 rounds from beginning.
7th
Rnd: Fold lower edge up on wrong
side. Continue around working 1 sc in
back loop of each st tog with corresponding st on foundation ch, skipping every
10th st around, [90 sts].
Work
3 rounds even.
11th
Rnd: 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in each of 9
sts, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of 69 sts, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each st
to end, [93 sts].
Work
3 rounds even.
15th
Rnd: Work as for 11th round,
increasing in the 3rd, 8th and 90th st [96
sts].
Work
7 rounds even.
Slip
st in next st; do not break yarn.
BRIM:
1st
Rnd: Turn, continue working in back
loop, 1 sc in each of 8 sts, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts;
repeat from * 26 times, 1 sc in each st to end of round, [123 sts].
Work
even [in back loop] until there are 10 rounds.
Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Fold
brim at 8th round.
Sew
back loop of sts in last round to horizontal loops on wrong side of 5th
round.
Cut
2 pieces of narrow ribbon each 8 inches long.
Knot
1 piece around the other at center.
Sew
ends of ribbon at center front, center back and at center of each side, on
inside of crown about ¾ inches from top.
Trim
with wide ribbon as illustrated.
NOTE: To make this hat extra special, add a veil of
net, lace or dotted-swiss in a matching color.
Experimenting
with fabrics & color combinations will make this your own original
