Vintage 1966 Shapely Shift Dress #1404

Shapely shift dress with slim-fitting three-quarter length sleeves & a round collarbone neckline is crocheted in a simple, smooth, all-over pattern stitch.

MATERIALS:
20 [22,24,26] Balls Villawool VIP Banlon
1 Aero Crochet Hook #8
1 Small Button

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 34” [36”,38”,40”]
Length [All Sizes] = 35”
Sleeves [All Sizes] = 11”

TENSION:
2 Clusters = 1”

IMPORTANT NOTE:
DC [UK] = SC [US]
TR [UK] = DC [US]

PATTERN:
1ST ROW:  Draw up lp in 2nd CH from hk, draw up lp in next CH, yo & pull thru all 3 lps, 1 CH, * draw up lp in last CH worked, sk 1 CH, draw up lp in next CH, yo & pull thru all 3 lps, 1 CH, rep from * ending 1 DC in last CH. 2 CH for TCH.

2ND ROW [RS]: Draw up lp in 1st CH sp, sk 1 st, draw up lp in next 1 CH sp, yo * pull thru all 3 lps, 1 CH, * draw up lp in last st worked, sk 1 st, draw up lp in next 1 CH sp, yo & pull thru all 3 lps, 1 CH, rep from * end 1 DC in TCH. 2 CH for TCH.

Rep 2nd row incl, be careful to keep edges even at end of every row.

BACK:
CH 74 [78,82,86] loosely & work in patt. [36,40,44,48 clusters].

Cont until work meas 29” [or needed length].

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
NEXT ROW: Sl st over 1 [3,3,4] clusters, work to last 1 [3,3,4] clusters, turn.

NEXT ROW: Patt to end.

NEXT ROW: Sl st over 1 [1,2,3] clusters, work to last 1 [1,2,3] clusters, turn.

NEXT ROW: Patt to end.

NEXT ROW: Sl st over 1 cluster, work to last cluster, turn.

Cont on rem 30 [30,32,32] clusters until armholes meas 4”. ***

Divide work evenly for back opening & cont on 1 side of 15 [15,16,16] clusters until armholes meas 7 ½”, end at armhole edge.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
NEXT ROW: Sl st over 2 clusters, work 7 clusters, turn & work back to last 2 clusters, turn.

NEXT ROW: Sl st over 2 clusters, work 3 clusters & fasten off.

Ret to centre back, join in yarn, & finish as other side in reverse.

FRONT:
Work as back to ***.

Cont until armholes meas 5 ½”.

SHAPE NECK:
NEXT ROW: Work 11 clusters, turn & work back to armhole edge.

NEXT ROW: Work to last cluster on neck edge, turn & work back to armhole edge.

Rep last row once more. [9 clusters rem].

Cont until armhole meas exactly same as back, end at armhole edge.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
NEXT ROW: Sl st over 2 clusters, work to neck edge.

NEXT ROW: Patt to last 2 clusters, turn.

NEXT ROW: Sl st over 2 clusters, work to neck edge.

NEXT ROW: Patt to last 2 sts & fasten off.

Sk centre 8 [8,10,10] clusters, join in yarn & finish on rem clusters as other side in reverse.

SLEEVES:
CH 38 [40,42,44] loosely & work in patt. [18,19,20,21 clusters.]

Work 2nd row 5 times.

** Inc 1 cluster at end only of next 2 rows, work 4 rows straight.**

Rep these 6 rows until inc to 28 [29,30,31] clusters.

Cont until sleeves meas 11” [or needed length.]

NEXT ROW: Sl st over 2 clusters, work to last 2 clusters, turn.

NEXT ROW: Sl st over 1 cluster, work to last cluster, turn.

NEXT ROW: Patt to end.

Rep last 2 rows until 8 [9,10,11] clusters rem. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Press work lightly & carefully on WS.

Use small back st, sew up shoulder seams & press seams open.

Join side & sleeve seams, & press seams.

Set sleeves smoothly into armholes.

Work 2 rows of patt around neck edge.

Make lp on 1 side of neck & sew button on other side.
