Vintage 1960s Modern Lace Jacket #1123
SIZES:
Small [12 to 14] & Large [16 to 18]
Directions are given for Small size. Changes for Large size are given in brackets.

MATERIALS: 
American Thread Company,
Aunt Lydia's Heavy Rug Yarn,
70 yd skeins - 13 [15] 
Aluminum Crochet Hook Size K

GAUGE:
4 rice sts = 5”

JACKET:
Start at lower edge * ch 4, 1 dc in 3rd st from hk, rep from * 33 [37] times, ch 7, turn. 

2ND ROW: Dc in 7th st from hk, work 1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc in each ch bet rice sts [see 3rd row] & in ch at end of row [open shell], ch 2, turn. 

3RD ROW: Sl st in center st of ch, * work rice st [ch 3, 1 dc in 3rd st from hk], sl st in center st of next lp, rep from * across row, ch 6, turn. 

4TH ROW: Dc in 1st sl st [counts as 1 open shell], work 1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc in each sl st bet rice sts & in sl st at end of row, ch 2, turn.

Rep 3rd & 4th rows 11 times [all sizes]. 

27TH ROW: Work even in rice sts across row. 

28TH ROW: Divide for FRONTS & BACK in this row.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work 9 [10] open shells, turn.

NEXT ROW: Work even across row.

NEXT ROW: Work 8 [9] open shells, turn.

NEXT ROW: Work even across row.

Rep last 2 rows 1 [2] times.

NEXT ROW: Work 8 [9] open shells.

SHAPE SHOULDER & NECKLINE:
NEXT ROW: Work 4 [5] rice sts.

NEXT ROW: Work 5 [6] open shells.

NEXT ROW: Work even across row, cut yarn.

BACK:
Attach yarn in top of last dc of 28th row of right front & work 17 [19] open shells across row, turn.

NEXT ROW: Work even in rice sts, cut yarn.

NEXT ROW: Attach yarn in 2nd sl st & work 15 [17] open shells across row.


NEXT 5 [7] ROWS: Work in patt.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
Work 5 [6] open shells.

NEXT ROW: Work rice st patt row.

NEXT ROW: Join right front shoulder as follows: ch 4, turn, sl st in 1st sl st of front, ch 1, dc in 1st sl st of back, * dc in next sl st of back, ch 1, sl st in next sl st of front, ch 1, dc in same st of back, rep from * 3 [4] times, cut yarn.

Sk 5 [5] sl sts of back for neck, attach yarn in next sl st, then compl 3 patt rows, cut yarn.

LEFT FRONT:
Attach yarn in top of last dc of 28th row of back & work same as right front, reverse shaping, join tog at shoulder to corres to other shoulder, cut yarn.

SLEEVES:
Ch 42 [45], dc in 6th st from hk, * sk 2 chs, 1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc in next ch, rep from * across ch, ch 2, turn.

2ND ROW: Sl st in center st, ch 6, dc in same sp, * 1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc in center st of next lp, rep from * across row, ch 2, turn.

Rep 2nd row 14 times or desired length to underarm. 

SHAPE SLEEVE: 
Sl st in center of lp, ch 3, * 1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc in center st of next lp, rep from * across row to within last lp, dc in last lp [this dec 1 lp at beg & end of row].

NEXT 2 ROWS: Rep 2nd row, then rep dec row, cut yarn.

FINISHING:
Block & steam sections.

Sew sleeve seams.

Sew sleeves in position.

EDGE:
Attach yarn at lower right front edge, ch 3, 1 dc in same sp, sc in next sp, * ch 3, 1 dc in last sc, sk sp, sc in top of turning ch of next row, rep from * up front edges, work ch 2 in­stead of ch 3 around neck edge to hold neckline in place.

BELT:
With double strand of yarn make 60” ch [or length desired], sl st in back lps across ch.

POMPONS: [MAKE 2]:
Wind yarn 50 times over 3” card­board, slip off cardboard & tie at center, trim into shape.

Lace belt through 10th or desired row of open shells from lower edge.

Attach pompons at each end of belt.
