Vintage Tailored Elegance Sweater Jacket #154


SIZES: 
Small, Medium and Large

MEASUREMENTS -- Bust:
Small:  32 - 34.  Medium:  36 - 38.  Large:  40 - 42.

Directions for medium and large sizes are in brackets.

MATERIALS: 
Mohair 1 oz balls  9 [ 10 - 11 ]
1 Pair each straight knitting needles # 6 and # 11

GAUGE: 
3 sts = 1 inch; 
p  4 ½ rows = 1 inch.

BACK: 
With #6 needles cast on 52 [ 58 - 64 ] sts. 

Rib  in k 1 and p 1 for 1 ½. 

Change to #11 needles and stockinette st [ k 1 row p 1 row ]. 

Work even until piece measures 10 ½ [ 11 - 11 ½ ] ins or desired length to armhole.  End p row.

Raglan armholes: 
Bind off 2 [ 3 - 4 ] sts at beg of next 2 rows [ once each side].

Next row:  K 1, slip 1, k 1, psso, k to within last 3 sts, k 2 tog, k 1.  P back. 

Repeat these 2 rows until 14 sts remain.  Bind off.

LEFT FRONT: 
With #6 needles cast on 27 [ 31 - 35 ] sts. 

Rib in k 1 and p 1 for 1 ½ ins. 

Change to #11 needles and stockinette st.

At front edge [ end of k row ] dec 1 st every 8th row 8 [ 9 - 10 ] times. 

At same time when piece measures 10n ½  [ 11 - 11 ½ ] ins.

Shape armhole at seam edge to correspond with Back--all sts will be eliminated.

RIGHT FRONT: 
Work to correspond to Left Front, reversing shaping.

SLEEVE: 
With #6 needles cast on 26 [ 30 - 34 ] sts. 

Rib in k 1 and p 1 for 1 ¼ ins. 

Change to # 11 needles and stockinette st. 

Inc 1 st at beg and end of needle every inch until there are 40 [ 46 - 52 ] sts. 

Work even until piece measures 12 ins.  End with a p row. 

Shape raglan same as back.

Bind off 2 remaining sts.

COLLAR:  Right Half: 
With #11 needles cast on loosely [ outside edge ] 73 [ 79 - 85 ] sts. 

Rib in k 1 and p 1 throughout. 

Work 1 row.

At beg of next row dec 1 st. 

Mark this end as shaped or waistedge of collar -- The opposite smooth edge is center back of neck. 

At marked edge dec 1 st every row 3 times. 

At same edge bind off 3 sts every other row 8 times. 

Work 1 row even.  Bind off loosely. 

Work Left Half in same manner, reversing shaping.

FINISHING: 
Sew side and sleeve seams. 

Set in raglan. 

Sew decreased edges of collar to front edges of sweater with even edge at center back of neck. 

Seam back edges. 
Block.  Do not press. 

Sew buckle at waist ribbing.
