Vintage Fancy Lace Filet Pattern Pant Suit #708

Everything to make it becoming.  Extremely smart pantsuit with bands of white embroidery dots on the borders of the lacey tunic & pants legs.  A fashionable vintage design, & a season-spanning, wardrobe favorite!

SIZES:
Directions for small size (8-10).
Changes for medium size (12-14) are in parentheses

MEASUREMENTS:
Body Bust Size: 31 ½“-32 ½“ (34“-36“).
Finished Bust Size: 33“ (37“).

MATERIALS: 
Knitting worsted, 8 (9) 4-oz. skeins main color (MC), 1 oz. white (W).
Aluminum crochet hooks sizes F &  G. Tapestry needle.
One yard ¾“ elastic.

GAUGE:
4 dc = 1“;
 2 rows dc = 1“ size F hook).
1 pat (9 sts) = 2“;
 6 rows pat st = 3” (size F hook).

Row 2:  Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), sk first dc, dc in each of next 2 dc, * ch 3, dc in ch-5 sp, ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each of next 3 dc, sk next dc, rep from * across, end dc in each of last 3dc.


Row 3:  Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), sk first dc, dc in next dc, * ch 3, dc in ch-3 sp, dc in next dc, dc in ch-3 sp, ch 3, sk next dc, dc in next dc, sk next dc, rep from * across, end dc in each of last 2 dc.

PANTS: LEFT LEG: 
(Left-handed crocheters: This will be your right leg.)
Beg at waistline, with size F crochet hook &  MC, ch 62 (66) loosely.


Row 1:  Dc in 4th ch from hook &  in each ch across—60 (64) dc. counting turning ch as 1 dc. Turn each row.


Row 2:  Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), sk first dc, dc in each dc across—60 (64) dc. Check gauge; piece should meas 15“ (16“) wide.


Rows 3 THRU 8:  Rep row 2.


Row 9:  Work in dc, inc 1 dc each side (to inc, at beg of row, ch 3, dc in first dc; at end of row, 2 dc in last dc, dc in top of turning ch)—62 (66) dc. Work 2 rows even. Rep last 3 rows 4 times—70 (74) dc. Work even if necessary, until piece meas 11 ½” from start or 1“ longer (waistband allowance) than desired length to crotch.

Shape Crotch:
Next Row:  Work across, ch 13 (back edge) loosely at end of row. Turn.


Next Row:  DC in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 9 ch, finish row, drop yarn; join another strand of MC to top of last row, ch 8 loosely, end off (front edge). With first ball of MC, dc in each of 8 ch-89 (93) dc. Turn. 

Work 3 rows even.


Next Row:  Dec 1 st each side (to dec, at beg of row, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), sk first dc, yo hook, pull up a Ip in each of next 2 dc, yo &  thru  2 Ips, yo &  thru  3 Ips; at end of row, work to within last 2 sts, yo hook, pull up a Ip in each of last 2 sts, yo &  thru  2 Ips, yo &  thru  3 lps)-87 (91) dc. Dec 1 st each side every row 6 times — 75 (79) dc. Work even until piece meas 22 ½“ from crotch or 7 ½“ less (border allowance) than desired leg length, end wrong side.


Next Row:  Work in dc across, inc 9 (14) dc evenly spaced across—84 (93) dc.

Border
Work pat rows 1-7, then rows 2-6.


Next Row:  Dc in each dc &  sp across, alternating 2 dc in first ch-3 sp &  3 dc in next ch-3 sp. Ch 3, turn.


Next Row:  Dc in each dc across. Do not turn at end of row.


Next Row:  Working from left to right (Left-handed crocheters: Work from right to left), ch 1, hdc in first dc, * ch 1, sk next dc, hdc in next dc, rep from * across. End off.

RIGHT LEG:
Work same as for left leg, to start of crotch shaping.


Shape Crotch:
Next Row:  Work across, ch 10 (front edge) loosely at end of row.


Next Row:  Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 6 ch, finish row, drop yarn; join another strand of MC to top of last row, ch 11 loosely, end off (back edge). With first ball of MC, dc in each of 11 ch-89 (93) dc. Complete as for left leg.

TUNIC: BACK: 
Beg at lower edge, with size G hook &  MC, ch 77 (86) loosely.

Row 1:  DC in 4th ch from hook &  in each ch across—75 (84) dc.

Work even in pat st until piece meas 12” from start. Change to size F hook.

Work even until piece meas 20“ from start, end pat row 7.

Shape Armholes: 
Sl st loosely across 4 dc &  2 ch, ch 3, work in pat row 5 across, end 2 dc in last ch-5 sp. Turn.

Work in pat until armhole meas about 4“ above armhole shaping, end pat row 6.

Shape Neck: 
Working pat row 7, work ch 3, sk first dc, dc in next 2 dc, dc in ch-3 sp, ch 5, dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in each of next 3 dc, dc in ch-3 sp, ch 5, dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in each of next 2 dc. Turn.

Work in pat as established until armhole meas 7“ (7 ½“) above armhole shaping. End off.

2nd Shoulder: 
Work dc in center dc of 3rd group of 3 dc from end of last long row, dc in next dc, dc in ch-3 sp, ch 5, dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in each of next 3 dc, dc in ch-3 sp, ch 5, dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in each of next 3 sts. Turn.

Complete as for first shoulder.

FRONT: 
Work same as for back.

FINISHING:
With W, sew a lazy daisy st  in center of each diamond on pat st of all pieces.

Steam lightly.

Pants:
With backstitch, sew back, front, crotch &  leg seams.

Cut elastic to waist measurement: sew ends securely.
Fold 2 rows at upper edge to wrong side over elastic; sew in place.

Tunic:
With backstitch, sew shoulder &  side seams, matching rows.

From right side, with size F hook &  MC, work 1 row sc around neck edge, easing in to desired fit; join with sl st in first sc. Do not turn.


Next Row:  Working from left to right (Left-handed crocheters: Work from right to left), work same as for last row on pants leg.

Work same edging around each armhole.

Work last row around lower edge of tunic.

Be sure to keep edgings flat.

TIE BELT (not shown):
With double d of MC, ch 72“ or desired length.

Work sl st in each ch across. End off.

Cut 5 strands 14“ long.

Fold in half to form a loop, insert hook in end of belt, pull loop thru ; pull ends thru  loop; tighten knot.

Fringe other end the same.
