Vintage 1960’s Sleeveless 2-Piece Dress #976
 SIZE:  
Directions are for size 12, with changes for sizes 14 & 16 in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Bear Brand or Fleisher’s Nylon ‘n Wool 1 oz skeins – 14 [16-18]
7” Zipper
Boye steel crochet hook #0, or size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE:
12 sts [6 patts] = 2”
4 rows = 1”

MEASUREMENTS:
SKIRT:
Width at lower edge:  39” [41”-43”]
Width at hip:  35” [37”-39”]
Width at waist:  31” [33”-35”]
SLEEVELESS SHELL:
Width at bust:  34 ½” [36 ½”-38 ½”]
Width at back underarm:  17 ¼” [18 ¼”-19 1/4”]

BACK:  Ch 119 [125-131] loosely.

Sk 1 st of ch, work 1 sc in each rem st of ch, working in horizontal thread at back of st – 118 [124-130] sc.

PATTERN:
1ST ROW:  WRONG SIDE:  Turn, * sk 1 sc, 1 sc & 1 dc in next sc; rep from * to end.

NOTE:  Do not ch when turning at end of row.

2ND ROW:  Turn, 1 sc & 1 dc in 1st dc, * sk 1 sc, 1 sc & 1 dc in next dc; rep from * to end.

Rep last row for patt.

Work even until 14 ¾” from beg, about 59 patt row, end on wrong side.

DEC ROW:  Turn, 1 sc & 1 dc in 1st dc, * 1 sc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc *; work to within 6 sts – 3 patts of end; rep bet stars once, 1 sc & 1 dc in last dc – 2 sts – 1 patt dec each side --  114 [120-126] sts.

Rep dec row every 10th row twice -- 106 [112-118] sts.  Skirt will meas about 20” from beg.

Rep dec row every 6th row 3 times – 94 [100-106] sts.

Work even until 25” from beg, end on wrong side.

Work 1 row sc, working 1 sc in each st & dec 28 [25-21] sts across row – 66 [75-85] sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Work 1 sc in each sc.  Fasten off.

FRONT:  Work same as back.

FINISHING:  Sew seams leaving 7” free on left seam for zipper.

Sew in zipper.

Sew belting on wrong side at waistline, holding in to desired size.

SLEEVELESS SHELL:
BACK:  Ch 105 [111-117].

Work sc row & patt as for skirt on 104 [110-116] sts until 12” above sc row, about 47 patt rows, end on wrong side.

Mark at each side for underarm.

Cont patt until 6” [6 ¼”-6 ½”] above marker, end on right side.

LEFT HALF OF BACK—NECK SHAPING—DEC:
1ST ROW:  Work 34 [36-38] sts, sk 1 sc, 1 sc in next dc—1 st dec – 35 [37-39] sts.

2ND ROW:  Turn, sk 1st sc, work patt to end – 34 [36-38] sts.

3RD ROW:  Work to within 2 sts of end, 1 sc in next dc – 33 [35-37] sts.

4TH ROW:  Same as 2nd row – 32 [34-36] sts.

SHOULDER SHAPING:
1ST ROW:  Turn, 1 sl st in each of next 4 [6-6] sts, finish row; 28 [28-30] sts.

2ND ROW:  Work 24 [24-26] sts, sk 1 sc, 1 sl st in next dc.

3RD ROW:  Turn, sk sl st, sl st over next 4 [4-6] sts, finish row – 20 sts.

4TH ROW:  Work 16 sts, sk 1 sc, 1 sl st in next dc.

5TH ROW:  Turn, sk sl st, sl st over 4 sts, finish row—12 sts.

6TH ROW:  Turn, work 5 sts, sk sc, 1 sl st in next st – 6 sts.  Fasten off.

RIGHT HALF OF BACK—NECK SHAPING—DEC:
1ST ROW:  With lp on hk, working from right side, sk 33 [35-37] sts for neck, 1 sc in next dc, finish row – 35 [37-39] sts.

2ND ROW:  Work 34 [36-38] sts, 1 sl st in next sc – 34 [36-38] sts.

3RD ROW:  Turn, sk sl st, 1 sc in dc, sk sc, work patt to end – 33[35-37] sts.

4TH ROW:  Turn, work 32 [34-36] sts, sl st in next sc.

SHOULDER SHAPING:
1ST ROW:  Turn, work 28 [28-30] sts, sk 1 sc, 1 sl st in next dc.

2ND ROW:  Turn, sk sl st, 1 sl st in each of next 4 sts, finish row – 24 [24-26] sts.

3RD ROW:  Work 20 sts, sk sc, 1 sl st in next dc.

4TH ROW:  Same as 2nd row – 16th sts.

5TH ROW:  Work 12 sts, sl st in next dc.

6TH ROW:  Turn, sk sl st, sl st in each of 6 sts, finish row – 6 sts.  Fasten off.

FRONT:  Same as back.

Sew underam & shoulder seams.

EDGING:
1ST ROW:  RIGHT SIDE:  Beg at left underarm, work 1 sl st in 1st st of foundation ch, * ch 3, sk 2 sts, 1 sl st in next st; rep from * to end, join with sl st in 1st sl st.

2ND ROW:  Ch 1, 1 sl st under next ch 3, * ch 3, 1 sl st under next ch 3; rep from *, end 1 sl st in 1st sl st.  Fasten off.

Beg at shoulder seam, work same edging around neck edge, work ch 3 & 1 sl st in every 2nd row on side edges & in every dc on straight edges.

Beg at underarm seam, work edging around armholes.
