Infants 4-Piece Cable Coat & Leggings Set #B208
SIZE:
9 - 18 months

MATERIALS:
Complete Set: Fingering Wool 4 – Ply, 10 oz
Separately:
Coat - 5 oz
Leggings - 4 oz
Beret - 1 oz
Mittens - 1 oz
2 Pairs Needles, Old UK #10 & #12/US #3 & #3/3.25mm & 2.75mm
1 Medium Crochet Hook
1 Small Spare Double-Pointed Needle for Cables
3 Buttons

MEASUREMENTS:
Coat:
Length = 15”
Underarm = 22”
Sleeve Seam = 7”
Leggings: Length of front seam = 8½”
Beret [around head] = 14”

TENSION:
7 sts = 1” on Larger Needles

NOTES:
If set is for girl, work buttonholes on Right Front.

MOSS ST = K1, p1 alt on uneven number of sts, but when working over even number,always work k st over k st of the previous row.

DC = UK Double Crochet [DC]/US Single Crochet [SC]

COAT:
BACK:
Use larger needles, cast on 115 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work 12 rows in garter stitch (every row k).

WORK IN PATT AS FOLLOWS:
1ST ROW: K.

2ND ROW: K1, * p5, k1; rep from * to end.

NEXT ROWS: Rep last 2 rows until work meas 9½”, end with 2nd row.

CHANGE TO SMALLER NEEDLES & DEC FOR WAIST AS FOLLOWS:

NEXT ROW: K1, k2tog, * k1, (k2tog) twice; rep from * until 2 sts rem, k2 = 70 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work 7 rows in garter st.

CHANGE TO LARGER NEEDLES & WORK IN FOLLOWING YOKE PATT:

1ST ROW: K.

2ND ROW: P.

3RD ROW: K.

4TH ROW: K.

THESE 4 ROWS CREATE PATT.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
NEXT ROWS: Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then cont in yoke patt, dec 1 st at both ends of every row until 58 sts rem.

NEXT ROWS: Cont in patt without further shaping until armhole meas 4” on straight.

SHAPE NECK & SHOULDERS:
NEXT ROW: (RSF) K21 , cast off 16, k21 .

NEXT ROW: Cast off 6, patt to last 2 sts, work 2 tog.

NEXT ROW: K2tog, k to end.

NEXT ROWS: Rep last 2 rows once. Cast off rem sts.

Rejoin wool at neck edge & work other side to corres reverse shaping.

RIGHT FRONT:
Use larger needles, cast on 61 sts & work 12 rows in garter st.

WORK IN PATT WITH GARTER ST BORDER AS FOLLOWS:
1ST ROW: K.

2ND ROW: * K1, p5; rep from * until 7 sts rem, k7.

NEXT ROWS: Rep these 2 rows until work meas 9½” end with 2nd row.

CHANGE TO SMALLER NEEDLES & DEC FOR WAIST:

NEXT ROW: K7, * (k2tog) twice, k1; rep from * until 4 sts rem, (k2tog) twice = 39 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work 7 rows in garter st.

NEXT ROW: K 7, p 2, (inc into next st, k1) twice, inc into next st, p2, k to end = 42 sts.

WORK IN YOKE PATT WITH CABLE BORDER UP FRONT:
1ST ROW (WRONG SIDE FACING): P until 19 sts rem, k2, p8, k2, then k7 (BORDER).

2ND ROW: K7 (BORDER), p2, CABLE 4 BACK: sl next 2 sts on double-pointed needle & leave at back of work, k2, then k 2 sts from spare needle, now CABLE 4 FRONT: sl next 2 sts on spare needle & leave at front of work, k2, then k 2 sts from spare needle, p2, k to end.

3RD ROW: K until 19 sts rem, then k2, p8, k2, then k7 (BORDER).

4TH ROW: K7 (BORDER), p2, k8, p2, then k to end.

These 4 rows create patt.

SHAPE ARMHOLE:
Cont patt cast off 3 sts at beg of next row, then dec 1 st at this same edge on following 3 rows = 36 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work straight in patt with BORDERS correct until armhole meas 3¼” on straight, end with wrong side row.

SHAPE NECK:
Cast off 13 sts at beg of next row, then, keep patt correct & dec 1 st at neck edge on following 6 rows = 17 sts.

NEXT ROWS: When armhole meas same as for back to shoulder, shape shoulder by cast off 6 sts from armhole edge on next 2 alt rows, work 1 row, then cast off rem sts.

LEFT FRONT:
Work to corres with Right Front with BORDER & all shaping at opposite ends of work.

WAIST DECS WILL BE WORKED AS FOLLOWS: * (k2tog) twice, k1; rep from * until 11 sts rem, (k2tog) twice, k7 = 39 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work 7 more rows in garter st, make buttonhole in 4th row by: K until 5 sts rem, cast off 2, k3.

FOLLOWING ROW: Cast on 2 sts to replace those cast off.

When garter st waistband is completed, work next row by:

NEXT ROW: K until 16 sts rem, p2, (inc into next st, k1) twice, inc into next st, p2, k7 = 42 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work to corres with opposite side with all shapes reverse, make 2 more buttonholes at intervals of 1½”. The top one to come about ¼” from neck edge.

SLEEVES: (BOTH SAME):
Use larger needles, cast on 40 sts.
NEXT ROWS: Work 12 rows in garter st, inc into every 11th st on last row = 43 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work in patt as for back of coat, inc 1 st at both ends of every 6th row until there are 55 sts on needle.

NEXT ROWS: Work straight until sleeve meas 7” (or length needed).

SHAPE TOP:
NEXT ROWS: Dec 1 st at both ends of every alt row until 43 sts rem & then at both ends of every row until 17 sts rem.

NEXT ROW: Cast off, work 2 tog at both ends of row.

COLLAR:
Use larger needles, cast on 13 sts.
NEXT ROWS: Work 8 rows in garter st, sl 1st st purlwise throughout.

NEXT 2 ROWS: K9, turn & k to end.

NEXT ROWS: Work 8 more rows in garter st.

NEXT ROWS: Rep these last 10 rows until collar meas 8½” along shortest edge. Cast off.

LEGGINGS:
RIGHT LEG:
Use smaller needles, cast on 84 sts & work in k2, p2 rib for ½”.

Now work holes for girdle as follows: * k2, yo, p2tog; rep from * to end.

NEXT ROWS: Cont in rib until work meas 2”.

SHAPE BACK:
1st & 2nd rows: Rib 10, turn & rib back.

3RD & 4TH ROWS: Rib 20, turn & rib back .

5TH & 6TH ROWS: Rib 30, turn & rib back.

NEXT ROWS: Cont same, work 10 more sts on every alt row until there are 24 sts left unworked, turn & work back, inc 1 st at end of row = 85 sts.

CHANGE TO LARGER NEEDLES.

NEXT ROWS: With right side of work facing cont in patt as far back of coat, inc 1 st at longest edge on 3rd & every following 10th row until there are 91 sts on needle.

NEXT ROWS: Work 3 more rows after last inc.

SHAPE LEG:
Cont in patt dec 1 st at both ends of next & every following right side row until sts are reduced to 43.

NEXT ROWS: Cont without further shaping until leg meas 9” from start, end with right side row.

SHAPE INSTEP:
NEXT ROW: Patt 20, turn & k16 back.

NEXT ROWS: Cont in patt on these 16 sts for 2”, then dec 1 st at both ends of next 4 rows.
Break off wool & join on rem 23 sts.

NEXT ROW: With rsf, pick up & k 20 sts along right hand side of instep flap, k 8 sts across toe, then pick up & k 20 sts along other side of flap, k rem 4 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work 7 rows in garter st. Cast off.

LEFT LEG:
Work to corres with right leg, reverse all shaping.

Before shaping instep, end with wrong side row instead of a right side row.

BERET:
Use smaller needles, cast on 92 sts & work 4 rows in garter st. Do not k into back of cast on sts.

CHANGE TO LARGER NEEDLES & WORK AS FOLLOWS:
1ST ROW: K, inc into every 5th st = 110 sts.

2ND ROW: P.

3RD ROW: * K 10, inc into next st; rep from * to end.

4TH ROW: P.

5TH ROW: * K 11, inc into next st; rep from * to end.

6TH ROW: K.

7TH ROW: * K12, inc into next st; rep from * to end.

8TH ROW: P.

9TH ROW: * K 13, inc; rep from * to end.

10TH ROW: K.

11TH ROW: * K 14, inc; rep from * to end.

12TH ROW: P.

13TH ROW: * K 15, inc; rep from * to end.

14TH ROW: K.

NEXT ROWS: Cont in patt as for yoke of coat for 8 rows without shaping.

NOW DEC FOR CROWN AS FOLLOWS:
1ST ROW: * K2tog, k15; rep from * to end.

2ND ROW: P.

3RD ROW: * K2tog , k14; rep from * to end.

4TH ROW: K.

NEXT ROWS: Cont same way (in yoke patt) work 1 st less bet decs on every alt row until 20 sts rem.

Break off wool, thread through rem sts, fasten off securely & sew down seam of beret.

MITTENS:
Use smaller needles, cast an 37 sts & work 6 rows in garter st.

NEXT ROWS: Work in patt as for back of coat until work meas 1½”, end with 2nd row.

NEXT ROW: Work ribbonholes by: * K1, yo, k2tog; rep from * end with k3 tog instead of k2tog = 36 sts.

NEXT ROW: P.

NOW WORK AS FOLLOWS:
1ST ROW: K5, p2 (inc into next st, k1) twice, inc into next st, p2, k to end.

2ND ROW: P until 17 sts rem, k2, p8, k2, p5.

3RD ROW: K5, p2, CABLE 4 BACK, CABLE 4 FRONT, p2, k to end.

4TH ROW: K until 15 sts rem, p8, k7.

5TH ROW: K5, p2, k8, p2, k to end.

NEXT ROWS: Rep last 4 rows until work meas 2¼” from ribbonholes, end with wrong side row.

SHAPE TOP:
1ST ROW: K1, k2tog tbs, k2, p 2, patt 8, p2, k2, k2tog, k1, k2tog tbs, k12, k2tog, k1.

2ND & EVERY ALT ROW: K or p according to yoke patt.

3RD ROW: K1, k2tog tbs, k1, p2, patt 8, p2, k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog tbs, k10, k2tog, k1.

5TH ROW: K1, k2tog tbs, p2, patt 8, p2, k2tog, k1, k2tog tbs, k8, k2tog, k1.

7TH ROW: K1, k2tog tbs, p1, patt 8, p1, k2tog, k1, k2tog tbs, k6, k2tog, k1.

9TH ROW: K1, k2tog tbs, patt 8, k2tog, k1, k2tog tbs, k4, k2tog, k1.

10TH ROW: Work across to 8 cable sts, then p1 (p2tog) 3 times, p1, work to end. Cast off.

Work another mitten same.

FINISHING:
Press work lightly with worm iron over damp cloth, omitting ribbing & cable borders.

COAT:
Join shoulder seams.

Sew in sleeves.

Attach collar to neck, allowing half of each side of border to overlap at center front.

Join sleeve & side seams in 1 operation.

Press all seams.

Sew on buttons.

LEGGINGS:
Join up front & back seams, then sew up leg seams.

Stitch piece of elastic under each instep.

Press seams.

Thread waist with crocheted cord or elastic.

MITTENS:
Join up seams & across top.

Press seams.

Thread wrists with crocheted cords.

TO MAKE CROCHETED CORD:
Use wool doubled, crochet sufficient length of ch & thread through ribbonholes.

Finish off ends with pom poms or tassels.
