A skillful needlewoman will swiftly crochet this delightfully short jumpsuit…worked in lacy shells & shaped with crocheted-in darts …Delightful, addition to the discerning woman‘s wardrobe!

SIZES: 
8 – 16.
Directions for. small size (8-10).
Changes for medium size (12-14) and large size (16) are in parentheses.

MEASUREMENTS:
Body Bust Size: 31 ½“-32 ½“ (34“-36“; 38“).
Blocked Bust Size (closed): 34“ (36“-38“).
Body Hip Size: 33 ½“-34 ½“ (36“-38“; 40“).
Blocked Hip Size: 37“ (39“-41“).

MATERIALS: 
12 (12-14) 250-yard balls Mercerized Knitting & Crochet Cotton
Steel Crochet Hook Size #0
11 Ball Buttons, Beads or Button Molds.

GAUGE: 
3 shells = 2 ¾”;
5 rows = 2 ¼“

Note: Playsuit is worked with double strand of thread throughout.

BODICE: BACK: 
Beg at waistline, with 2 strands of yarn, ch 77 (81-85) loosely.

Row 1: DC in 5th ch from hook, * sk next 3 ch, work 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in next ch (shell made), rep from * across, end sk next 3 ch, 2 dc in last ch (1/2 shell) – 17 (18-19) shells, plus l/2 shell each side. Turn each row.

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in first dc (1/2 shell), * shell of 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, rep from * across, end 1/2 shell of 2 dc in top of turning ch.

Row 3: rep row 2.

Shape Darts:
Row 4: Work 1/2 shell, 4 shells, dc bet 4th and 5th shells, put marker in this inc dc, work 9 (10-11) shells, dc bet shells, put marker in this inc dc, work 4 shells, 1/2 shell.

Row 5: Working in pat, work dc in each marked dc.

Row 6: Working in pat, work 2 dc in each marked dc.

Row 7: Working in pat, work 2 dc in sp bet 2 dc over markers.

Row 8: Working in pat, work 3 dc in sp bet 2 dc over markers.

Row 9: Working in pat, work 3 dc in center dc over markers.

Row 10: Working in pat, work shell of 2 dc, ch 1,2 dc in center dc over markers – 2 shells inc; 19 (20-21) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side.

Remove dart markers.

Work in pat until piece meas 9“ from start or desired length to underarm.

Shape Armholes: 
Sl st loosely to center ch-1 sp of 2nd (2nd-3rd) shell; ch 3, dc in same ch-1 sp (1/2 shell), work in pat across next 15 (16-15) shells, l/2 shell in next ch-1 sp. Turn.

Work even until armholes meas about 6 ½“ (7“-7 ½“) above first row of armhole shaping.

Shape Shoulders & Neck: 
Next Row: Work  1/2 shell, 4 shells, 1/2 shell. Ch 2, turn.

Next Row: Sk  1/2 shell, work shell in next shell & in each of next 3 shells, 1/2 shell in top of ch-3. Turn.

Next Row: Sl st to center of 2nd shell, work (sc, hdc, dc) in same ch-1 sp, shell in next ch-1 sp, 1/2 shell in next ch-1 sp. End off, leaving 12“ length for sewing shoulder.

Join double strand of yarn in center of 5th shell from end on last long row. Ch 3, dc in same ch-1 sp (1/2 shell), work 4 shells, 1/2 shell.

Complete same as for first shoulder, reversing shaping.

RIGHT FRONT: 
Beg at lower edge, with double strand of yarn, ch 37 (41-45) loosely.

Work in pat as for back for 3 rows – 7 (8-9) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side. \

Mark end of last row for side edge.

Shape Dart: 
Row 4: Work 1/2 shell, 4 (4-5) shells, dc bet shells, put marker in this inc dc, work 3 (4-4) shells, 1/2 shell.

Rows 5-9: Work inc over marker same as for back — 3 dc in center dc over marker.

Row 10: Working in pat, work 4 dc in center dc over marker.

Row 11: Working in pat, work 4 dc in center sp bet dc over marker.

Row 12: Working in pat, work 5 dc in center sp bet dc over marker.

Row 13: Working in pat, work 6 dc in center dc over marker.

Row 14: Working in pat, work 4 dc in 2nd & in 5th dc of inc group over marker.

Row 15: Working in pat, work shell in center of each 4-dc group over marker – 9 (10-11) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side.

Work 1 row even, end center edge.

Shape Side Bust Dart: 
Row 17: Work  1/2 shell, 6 (7-7) shells, (2 hdc, 2 sc) in next ch-1 sp, sl st in each of next 2 dc, turn.

Row 18: Sl st loosely to center ch-1 sp of 4th (4th-5th) shell from side edge, (2 sc, hdc, dc) in ch-1 sp, work in pat across. Turn.

Row 19: Work in pat across to side edge, being careful to work shells over bust dart in line with prev shells.

Work even until piece meas same as back to underarm, end side edge.

Shape Armhole & Neck: 
Sl st loosely to center ch-1 sp of 2nd (2nd-3rd) shell; ch 3, dc in same ch-1 sp ( 1/2 shell), work 7 (8-8) shells, dc in top of ch-3 — 1 dc dec. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, work dc, ch 1, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, work in pat across — 1 dc dec.

Row 3: Work in pat across, end 2 dc, ch 1, dc in ch-1 sp.

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in first ch-1 sp ( 1/2 shell), work in pat across — 6 (7-7) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side.

Cont to dec 1 dc at neck edge until 4 shells plus 1/2 shell each side rem.

Work even, if necessary, until armhole meas same as back, end center edge.

Shape Shoulder: 
Ch 3, work 1/2 shell in next ch-1 sp, work 1 shell, (dc, hdc, sc) in next ch-1 sp, sl st in each of next 2 dc. End off.

LEFT FRONT: 
Work same as for right front; pat is reversible.

Sew shoulder & side seams.

Pants: 
From right side, join double strand of yarn in lower edge of left front edge (Left-handed crotchetier: right front edge).

Row 1: Ch 1, * 2 sc in ch-3 sp, sc in center of base of next shell, rep from * 2 (3-3) times, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 8, sc in same ch-3 sp (belt loop made); cont to work 2 sc in each ch-3 sp, sc in base of each shell across, working belt loop at side seam, each back dart, center back, side seam, front dart & at right center front -8 belt Ips. Turn.

Pattern:
Row 1: Ch 3, dc in first sc ( 1/2 shell), shell of 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in sc at center base of first 3 (4-4) shells, dc in sp bet shells (mark for front dart), work shell in base of next 5 (5-6) shells, dc in next sc (mark for side dart), work shell in base of next 4 shells, dc bet shells (mark for back dart), work shell in base of next 9 (10-11) shells, dc in sp bet shells (mark for back dart), work shell in base of next 4 shells, dc in sp bet shells (mark for side dart), work shell in sc at center base of next 5 (5-6) shells, dc in sp bet shells (mark for front dart), work shell in sc at center base of next 3 (4-4) shells, 1/2  shell in last sc – 33 (36-39) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side — 6 markers.

Keeping to pat, work dart inc as follows:
Rows 2 & 3: Work dc over each marked dc.

Row 4: Work 2 dc in each marked dc.

Row 5: Work dc in each of 2 dc over marked dc.

Row 6: Work 3 dc bet 2 dc over marker.

Row 7: Work 3 dc in center dc over marker.

Row 8: Work 4 dc in center dc over marker.

Row 9: Work shell of 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in center sp bet dc over markers – 6 shells inc — 39 (42-45) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side. Remove front & side markers — 2 markers rem (back darts).

Row 10: Working in pat, work 5 dc in ch-1 sp on back dart shells.

Row 11: Work 6 dc in center dc over markers.

Row 12: Work 4 dc in 2nd & 5th dc of each back dart.

Joining Row:
Row 13:Work shell in center sp of each back dart 4-dc group – 2 shells inc – 41 (44-47) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side. Ch 1, join with sl st in top of ch 3 at beg of row (1/2 shells now form 1 shell). Turn.

Workaround as follows:
Rnd 14: Ch 3, dc in ch-1 sp bet  1/2 shells, work in shell pat around, end 1/2 shell of 2 dc in ch-1 sp bet 1/2 shells, ch 1, join with sl st in top of ch 3. Turn.

Rep last row until piece meas desired length to crotch — 9“ for 5 ’2“ height; 9 ½” for 5’4“ height; 11“ for 5’8“ height. Do not turn at end of last row.

Crotch: 
Sl st to ch-1 sp of next shell. Turn.

Row 1: Ch 3, sk first st, dc in each of next 9 sts (center of 3rd shell). Turn each row.

Rows 2-11: Ch 3, dc in each dc across — 10 dc, counting ch 3 as 1 dc. Drop yarn at end of last row.

Weave crotch piece to 9 (10-9) sts on center back (1 shell, plus 1/2 shell each side for small & large sizes, 2 shells for medium size).

First Leg: 
Pick up yarn at end of crotch; working around leg, ch 3, dc in first st (1/2 shell), shell in each ch-1 sp around leg; work 5 shells evenly spaced across side of crotch piece; work  1/2 shell in first st, ch 1, join with sl st in top of ch-3 – 25 (27-28) shells.

Work around in shell pat, joining each rnd with sl st until 6 rows from start of leg.

Shell Edging: 
From right side, * sl st bet shells, 5 dc in ch-1 sp, rep from * around, end sl st in first sl st. End off.

Second Leg: 
From wrong side, join double strand of yarn in back corner of crotch piece; ch 3, dc in same st, work 5 shells across side of crotch piece, work shells in each ch-1 sp around leg, end 1/2 shell in same st as joining. Turn.

Complete same as for first leg.

Front Opening Edging: 
From right side (Left-handed crotchetier: from wrong side), join double strand of yarn in lower right front edge of opening.

Work 1 rnd sc evenly spaced up right front edge, around neck, down left front edge, having same number of sts in each front edge. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in each sc up left front, around neck, end at start of right ; neck shaping, * ch 3, sk next 5 sc, sc in each of next 3 sc (button-hole made), rep from * 10 times, sc in each sc to lower edge. Ch 1, turn.

Left-handed crotchetier: End off. Join yarn on left front.)

Next Row: Work shells of 6 dc around, working shell in center ch of ch-3 sp & sc in center sc of 3 sc bet buttonholes, rem shells evenly spaced around. End off.

Sew lower edge of edging to opening.

Armhole Edging: 
Work 1 row sc tightly around armhole.

Work shells of 6 dc, sc evenly spaced around. End off.

TIE:
Ch 3, sl st in first ch, forming ring. Dc in each ch around; do not  join.

Cont to dc in each dc, forming spiral cord, until tie meas 60“. End off.

BUTTONS (make 11):
Ch 3, sl st in first ch, forming ring.

Rnd 1: 2 Sc in each ch around — 6 sc.

Rnd 2: 2 Sc in back lp of each sc around— 12 sc.

Rnd 3: * Sc in back lp of next sc, 2 sc in back Ip of next sc, rep from * around until piece covers button. Cut yarn, leaving 12“ end.

Thread needle with long end; draw sts tog tightly.

Sew to left front edge.

Steam-press lightly.

Thread tie through belt loops.
