1970 Mod Lace Bikini & Cover-Up Set #716

So easy to create this chic bikini & sleeveless cover up top…you’ll want to quickly make a second! 

SIZES: 
Small [6-8], Medium [10-12], & Large [14].
Directions are given for Small. Changes for Medium & Large are in brackets.

MATERIALS:
BIKINI:
Coats & Clarks Red Heart Wintuk Sport Yarn, 2 Ply, 2 oz Skeins: 3 (4, 4) Aqua 
1 Crochet Hook Size G 
2 yds round elastic 
COVER UP:
Coats & Clarks Red Heart Wintuk Sport Yarn, 2 Ply, 2 oz Skeins: 8 (9, 10) Aqua
1 Crochet Hook Size G
7 Buttons

GAUGE:
BIKINI:
5 sts = 1”
3 rows = 1” 
COVER UP:
5 shells = 4”
2 rows = 1”

PANTIES:
FRONT:
Start at side edge, CH 17 (20;23) to meas 3.75” (4“;4.5“).

1st row:  HDC in 3rd CH from hk & in each CH across = 16 (19;22) HDC, count CH-2 as 1 HDC. CH 2, turn. 

Hereafter, work thru back lp only of each HDC throughout & always count turning CH as 1 HDC

2nd row: Sk 1st HDC, HDC in each HDC across, HDC in top of CH-2. CH 2, turn.

Rep 2nd row for patt.

Work in patt for - (2;4) more rows

Left Leg Shaping:
1st row:  Work across to within turning CH, 2 HDC in top of turning chain-1 HDC inc. CH 2, turn.  

2nd row:  Work even. CH 2, turn. 

Next 8 rows: Rep 1st & 2nd rows alt 4 times = 21 (24;27) HDC. CH 2, turn. 

11th row:  Work across to within turning CH, 3 HDC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn. 

12th row:  2 HDC in 3rd CH from hk, HDC in each HDC across, HDC in top of turning CH = 26 (29;32) HDC. CH 2, turn.  

Crotch:
1st row: Work across to within turning CH, 2 HDC in top of turning CH. CH 9 (10;11), turn. 

2nd row: HDC in 3rd CH from hk, HDC in next 6 (7;8) CH, work in patt over rem sts = 35 (39;43) HDC.  CH 2, turn. 

Next 6 rows: Work even in patt. CH 2, turn.  

Right Leg Shaping:
1st row: Sk 1st HDC, HDC in next 23 (26;29) HDC, yo, draw up lp in each of next 2 HDC, yo & draw thru all lps on hk-1 HDC dec. Do not work over rem sts.  CH 2, turn. 

2nd row: Sk 1st HDC, dec 1 HDC over next 2 HDC, compl row. CH 2, turn. 

3rd row: Sk 1st HDC, HDC in next 19 (22;25) HDC, dec 1 HDC over next 2 HDC = 21 (24;27) HDC. CH 2, turn. 

4th row: Work even. CH 2, turn. 

5th row: Work across, dec 1 HDC at end of row. CH 2, turn.  

Next 8 rows: Rep 4th & 5th rows alt 4 times.

Work even over 16 (19;22) sts for 2 (4;6) rows.

At end of last row, break off & fasten.

BACK:
Work as for Front until 2nd row of Left Leg Shaping has been compl.  

3rd row: Work across, inc 2 HDC at end of row. CH 2, turn. 

4th row: Work even. CH 2, turn. 

Next 6 rows: Rep 1st thru 4th rows once, then rep 1st & 2nd rows once. 

11th & 12th rows: Rep 11th & 12th rows of Front Left Leg Shaping = 28 (31;34) HDC. CH 2, turn.  

Crotch:
1st row:  Work in patt to within turning CH, 2 HDC in top of turning CH. CH 12 (13;14), turn. 

2nd row: HDC in 3rd CH from hk, HDC in next 9 (10;11) CH, compl row = 40 (44;48) HDC. CH 2, turn.  

3rd thru 8th row: Work even. CH 2, turn.  

Right Leg Shaping:
1st row: Sk 1st HDC, HDC in next 27 (30;33) HDC, dec 1 HDC over next 2 HDC. CH 2, turn.

2nd row: Rep 2nd row of Front Right Leg Shaping. CH 2, turn. 

3rd row: Sk 1st HDC, HDC in next 21 (24;27) HDC, dec 2 HDC over next 3 HDC.  CH 2, turn.

4th row: Work even. CH 2, turn. 

5th row: Work across, dec 1 HDC at end of row. CH 2, turn.

6th row: Work even. CH 2, turn. 

7th row: Work across, dec 2 HDC at end of row. CH 2, turn. 

Next 6 rows: Rep 4th thru 7th rows once, then rep 4th & 5th rows once.

Work even over 16 (19;22) sts for 2 (4;6) rows. CH 2, turn.  Break off & fasten.   

Sew side & crotch seams.  

Edging:
1st rnd: With RS facing, SC evenly around top edge. Join with sl st to 1st SC. 

2nd rnd: CH 1, working in back lp only of each SC, SC in each SC around. join.  Break off & fasten.    

Work Edging around each leg opening, same as for prev Edging.    

Draw elastic thru sts of last rnd of each Edging, adjust to fit & sew ends tog.

BRA:
Work through BACK lp only of each HDC throughout.  
Cup (Make 2): 
Starting at center, CH 16 (18;20) having 5 CH sts to 1”. 

1st row:  HDC in 4th CH from hk & in each CH across to within last CH, 3 HDC in last CH for rounded end; work along opp side of starting CH, HDC in next 13 (15;7) CH-29 (33;37) HDC, count CH-2 as 1 HDC.  Both ends of rows form base of cup. CH 2, turn. 

2nd row: Sk 1st HDC, HDC in each HDC around, end with HDC in top of CH-2.  CH 2, turn. 

3rd row: Sk 1st HDC, HDC in each HDC to within 3 HDC at rounded end; (2 HDC in next HDC-1 HDC inc) 3 times; HDC in each HDC across, HDC in top of turning CH. CH 2, turn. 

4th row:  Rep 2nd row. CH 2, turn.

Rep 3rd & 4th rows alt 3 (4;5) times. Break off & fasten.  

Tie String & Edging:  
With RS facing, overlap cups at base, tack in place & adjust to fit. 

1st row: Make CH 20” long, SC evenly across base of cups, make 2nd chain 20” long. 

2nd row: Sl st in 2nd CH from hk, sl st in each st across. Break off & fasten. 

Shoulder Strap (Make 2): 
Make CH 20” long, sl st in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across.

Sew strap to center of each cup at upper edge. 

BACK:
Start at lower edge, CH 81 (84;87) to meas 21” (22“;23“). 

Foundation row: SC in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across = 80 (83;86) SC. CH 3, turn.

Now work in patt as follows: 
1st row-RS: Sk 1st 2 SC, 3 DC in next SC - shell made; * sk next 2 SC, shell in next SC. Rep from * across to within last 2 SC, sk next SC, DC in last SC =  26 (27;28) shells plus 2 DC, count CH-3 as 1 DC. CH 3, turn.

2nd row: DC bet DC & 1st shell - half shell made at beg of row; * shell bet next 2 shells. Rep from * across, end with DC bet last shell & turning CH, DC in top of turning CH - half shell made at end of row = 25 (26;27) shells plus 2 half shells. CH 3, turn.

3rd row: Shell bet half shell & 1st shell, * shell bet next 2 shells. Rep from * across, make last shell bet shell & half shell, DC in top of turning CH = 26 (27;28) shells plus 2 DC. CH 3, turn.

2nd & 3rd rows form patt.

4th & 5th rows: Work in patt.

NOW WORK DEC AS FOLLOWS:

6th row: Shell bet 1st & 2nd shell, * shell bet next 2 shells. Rep from * across to within last shell, DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

7th row: Rep 2nd row.

8th row: Rep 3rd row.

9th row: Rep 6th row.

Next 8 rows: Rep last 4 rows (6th thru 9th row) twice = 20 (21;22) shells plus 2 DC rem.

Work even in patt until total length is about 15.5” (15.5“;16.5“), end with 3rd row & omit turning CH at end of last row.

Armhole Shaping:
1st row: Sl st in 1st 4 DC, sl st bet shells, CH 3, shell bet next 2 shells, work in patt across to within last 2 shells, DC bet last 2 shells = 17 (18;19) shells plus 2 DC. CH 3, turn.

Next 3 rows: Rep 6th row, thus dec at each end of each row = 14 (15;16) shells plus 2 DC rem. CH 3, turn.

Following row: DC bet DC & 1st shell, compl row in patt.

Work even in patt until length from 1st row of armhole shaping is 8” (8.5“;9“). Break off & fasten.

LEFT FRONT   
Start at lower edge, CH 42 (45;48) to meas 10.5” (11“;11.5“).

Work as for Back until 5th row has been compl, end at front edge.

There are 13 (14;15) shells plus 2 DC on last row. CH 3, turn.

Now make decs at side edge as follows:
6th row: Work in patt to within last shell, DC in top of turning CH-side edge. CH 3, turn.

7th row: DC bet DC & 1st shell, work in patt across, end with shell bet last shell & half shell, DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

8th row: Rep 7th row.

9th row: Shell bet 1st 2 shells, work in patt across, end with shell bet last shell & half shell, DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

Next 8 rows: Rep 6th thru 9th rows twice = 10 (11;12) shells plus 2 DC rem.

Work even in patt until there are 6 rows less than on Back before armhole shaping, end at front edge; omit turning CH.

Neck Shaping:
1st row: Sl st in 1st 4 DC, sl st bet shells, CH 3, shell bet next 2 shells, work in patt across. CH 3, turn.

2nd row: Work in patt to last shell, DC in top of CH-3. CH 3, turn.

3rd & 4th rows: Work in patt across.

5th row: Shell bet 1st 2 shells, work in patt across. CH 3 turn.

6th row: Rep 2nd row. CH 3, turn.

Armhole & Neck Shapings:
1st row: Work in patt to within last 2 shells, DC bet last 2 shells. CH 3, turn.

2nd row: Shell bet 1st 2 shells, work in patt across. CH 3, turn.

3rd row: Shell bet 1st 2 shells, work in patt across to within last shell, DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

4th row: Rep 3rd row.

For Medium & Large Sizes Only:
Next 4 rows: Rep 3rd thru 6th rows of Neck Shaping.

For All Sizes:
Work even until length is same as Back. Break off & fasten.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work as for Left Front, reverse shapings.

Sew side & shoulder seams.

Lace Edging:  
With WS facing & working along opp side of start CHs, make 161 (177;185) SC evenly spaced along entire lower edge. CH 3, turn.

Now work lace patt as follows:
1st row: 2 DC in 1st SC, * CH 1, sk next 3 SC,(yo, draw up lp in next SC to height of work) twice; yo & draw thru all lps on hk - cluster made; CH 3, make another cluster in same SC, CH 1, sk next 2 SC, 6 DC in next SC. Rep from * across, end with 3 DC in last SC instead of 6 DC. CH 3, turn.

2nd row: Sk 1st DC, DC in next DC, 2 DC in next DC, CH 1, in next CH-3 sp make cluster, CH 3 & cluster; * CH 1, 2 DC in next DC, DC in next 4 DC, 2 DC in next DC, CH 1, in next CH-3 sp make cluster, CH 3 & cluster. Rep from * across to within last 3 DC, CH 1, 2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC, DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

3rd row: Sk 1st 2 DC, DC in next DC, sk next DC, CH 1, in next CH-3 sp make cluster, CH 3 & cluster; * CH 1, DC  in next DC, sk next DC, DC in next 4 DC, sk next DC, DC in next DC, CH 1, in next CH-3 sp make cluster, CH 3 & cluster. Rep from * across to within last 4 DC, CH 1, sk next DC, DC in next DC, sk next DC, DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

4th row: Sk 1st DC, DC in next DC, CH 1, in next CH-3 sp make cluster & (CH 3, cluster) 3 times; * CH 1, DC in next DC, sk next DC, DC in next 2 DC, sk next DC, DC in next DC, CH 1, in next CH-3 sp make cluster & (CH 3, cluster) 3 times. Rep from * across, end with CH 1, DC in next DC, DC in top of turning CH. CH 5, turn.

5th row: * (In next CH-3 sp make cluster, CH 3 & cluster, CH 2) 3 times; DC in next DC, sk next DC, DC in next 2 DC, CH 2. Rep from * across, end with DC in top of turning CH. CH 4, turn.

6th row: Cluster in next CH-3 sp, CH 3, sl st in 3rd CH from hk - P made; in each of next 3 sps make (cluster, P) twice; cluster in next CH-3 sp, P; sk next DC, DC in next DC, P, sk next DC & following sp. Rep from * across, ending with DC in 3rd CH of turning CH. Break off & fasten.

Edging:
1st row: With RS facing & be careful to keep work flat, SC evenly along right front, neck & left front edges, make 3 SC in same place at each corner of neck edge. CH 1, turn.

With pins, mark position of 7 buttonholes evenly spaced on Right Front edge, having 1st pin in line with 1st row of shells at lower edge & last pin in line with last row before neck shaping.

2nd row: Making 3 SC in center SC of each 3-SC group, * SC in each SC to next pin, CH 2, sk next 2 SC, SC in next SC. Rep from * across, SC in each rem SC. CH 1, turn.

3rd row: Make 2 SC in center SC of each 3-SC group, SC in each SC & in each CH across. Break off & fasten.

Armhole Edging:
1st & 2nd rnds: With RS facing, SC evenly around entire armhole edge. Join with sl st to 1st SC. Break off & fasten.

Sew on buttons.
