1970s Pinwheels & Fringe
Party Dress #1303
Frosty white pinwheel motifs of nylon tricot yarn are
crocheted, & sewn together to fashion a party dress, shaped close to the
body & dripping with Fringe. So easy to create!
SIZE:
Small [8-10] & Medium [12].

NOTE: Needles & gauge determine size.

DRESS:
Dress is made with 60 motifs = 50 for body; 5 for each sleeve.

MOTIFS:
Beg at center, CH 4, join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND: 12 SC in ring.
2ND RND: SC in 1st SC, [CH 3, sk next
SC, SC in next SC] 6 times = 6 CH-3 lps.
3RD RND: SC in CH-3 lp, [CH 3, SC in next SC, SC
in CH-3 lp] 5 times, CH 3, sk next SC, SC in next SC.
4TH RND: 2 SC in CH-3 lp, [CH 3, sk next SC, SC
in next SC, 2 SC in CH-3 lp] 5 times, end CH 3, sk next SC, SC in each of next
2 SC.
5TH RND: 2 SC in CH-3 lp, [CH 3, sk next SC, SC
in each of next 2 SC, 2 SC in CH-3 lp] 5 times, end CH 3, sk next SC, SC in each
of next 3 SC.
6TH RND: 2 SC in CH-3 lp, [CH 3, sk next SC, SC
in each of next 3 SC, 2 SC in CH-3 lp] 5 times, end CH 3, sk next SC, SC in

7TH – 12TH RNDS: Cont to work in same
way, have 1 more SC before CH-3 lp every rnd until 11 SC bet CH-3 lps, end last
rnd CH 3, sl st in next SC. Fasten off.
Motif should meas 5” [5 ½”] across side to side.
FINISHING:
Steam press each motif.
Steam press each motif.
Following charts below, join 31 motifs for front &
sides, 19 motifs for back & 5 motifs for each sleeve.
Sew motifs tog with thread, joining SC only, & leave
CH-3 lps free.
Join front & back at lower side edges along heavy
lines.
Mark top edges of front & back shown with heavy lines
on charts, incl very short edge.
Join front & back along these edges.
Join side edges of sleeves along heavy lines.
Join top edge of each sleeve marked with X to edge of
shoulder motif marked with X.
Join adjoining side edges of sleeve motif [each side of top
joined edge] to next edges on back & front.
Try on dress.
Lap front over back at sides to desired fit.
Sew right seam & rem underarm sleeve seams.
Close left opening with 8 snap fasteners.
Excess under seams & opening may be trimmed & sewn
with zigzag st on machine or bound.
Close back shoulder opening with snap fasteners.
Cut organza 20” long, same meas as hips.
Sew lining to waistline with invisible sts.
Cut lower edge of lining to match motif edges; hem in
place.
FRINGE:
Cut fringe 45” long.
Cut fringe 45” long.
Knot 3 strands in each st across lower edge of dress.
Cut fringe 25” long.
Knot 3 strands in each st on lower edge of sleeves. Trim.
