Vintage 1970s Mod Sweet ‘n Sassy Mini Dress #1276

SIZE:
Small [8-10] & Medium [12-14].
Directions are for Small with changes for Medium in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Knitting Worsted, 4 oz Skeins: 5 [6]
1 Pair Knitting Needles #21
1 Crochet Hook Size G
Stitch Holders

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 36” [40”]
Width of Back at Underarm = 18” [20”]
Length from Lower Edge to Underarm = 26”
Lower Edge = 36” [40”]

GAUGE:
9 Sts = 4”
6 Rows = 2”

NOTE:
Entire dress in knit with 3 strands of yarn tog.

To make any changes in length, make adjustments before beg armholes.

BACK:
With 3 strands of yarn tog, cast on 41 [45] sts.

BORDER:
1ST & 3RD ROWS [RS]: P.

2ND & 4TH ROWS: K.

NEXT ROW [RS]: Start working in ST ST [K 1 row, P 1 row] until 26” or needed length, end with P row. Mark for UNDERARM.

ARMHOLES:
Bind off 2 [3] sts at beg of next 2 rows = 37 [39] sts.

DEC ROW: K1, sk, K to within 3 sts of end, K2 tog, K1.

Rep this dec row every SECOND row 3 times = 29 [31] sts.

Work even for 11 [13] more rows until approx 6 ½” [7 ¼”] above 

UNDERARM marker, end on WS with P row.

SHOULDERS:
Bind off 3 [4] sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows = 15 sts.

K 1 row.

TURTLE NECK RIBBING:
1ST ROW: K1, * P1, K1; rep from * to end.

2ND ROW: P1, * K1, P1; rep from * to end.

Rep these 2 rows 5 more times. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

FRONT:
Work same as BACK until 17 [19] rows above UNDERARM marker, end on RS with K row.

DIVIDE FOR NECK:
P9 [10] & sl to holder for RS, P11 & sl to holder for NECK, P9 [10] rem sts for LS.

LEFT SIDE:
K to within 3 sts of end, K2 tog, K1 = 8 [9] sts.

P 1 row.

Bind off 3 [4] sts, K to within 3 sts of end, K2 tog, K1.

P 1 row.

Bind off rem 4 sts.

RIGHT SIDE:
From WS, sl 9 [10] sts for RS from holder to needle.

Join yarn at NECK edge, K1, sk, K to end = 8 [9] sts.

P 1 row.

On next row, K1, sk, K to end = 7 [8] sts.

Bind off 3 [4] sts at beg of next row.

K 1 row.

Bind off rem 4 sts.

TURTLE NECK RIBBING:
From WS, sl 11 sts for NECK of FRONT to needle.

From RS, beg at left SHOULDER, pick up & K5 sts evenly spaced along left NECK edge, K11 across FRONT, pick up & K5 sts along right NECK edge to SHOULDER = 21 sts.

1ST ROW: K1, * P1, K1; rep from * to end.

Compl turtle neck ribbing to corres to BACK.

FINISHING:
Sew SHOULDER & side seams, sewing ribbing to turtle neck to that 
seams are hidden when COLLAR is turned down.

From RS, beg at UNDERARM, & work 1 row SC around each 
ARMHOLE, holding in to fit. Join with sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.
