1970s Mod Mini Tunic Jumper Dress #1288

This blue jumper with two mini-patch pockets also goes over a dress as a sleeveless coat…or make it shorter for a sweater vest. An easy-fit garment worked in an easy single crochet with a ridged pattern.

SIZE:
Small 10 – 12 & Medium 14 – 16.
Directions are for size Small with changes for Medium in brackets.

MEASUREMENTS:
Body Bust = 32 ½” – 34” [36”-38”]
Finished Bust Closed = 36” [40”]

MATERIALS:
Bear Brand or Fleishers Ever-Match Futura, 40 gm Balls: 13 [15]
1 Aluminum Crochet Hook Size F [UK #10]
5 Buttons 1”
2 Buttons ¾”

GAUGE/TENSION:
9 SC = 2”
17 Rows = 4”

PATTERN NOTE:
SC in both lps of 1st & last SC, SC in front lp of rem SC on row, unless otherwise noted.

BACK:
Beg at lower edge, CH 82 [91].

1ST ROW: [RS]: SC in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across = 81 [90] SC. CH 1, turn.

2ND ROW: SC in each SC across [see patt note]. CH 1, turn each row.

Rep 2nd row until piece meas 24” from start or needed length to UNDERARM, end WS.

Piece should meas 18” [20”] wide.

Mark each side of last row for UNDERARM.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Dec 1 SC each side of next row, then every other row 10 [11] times = 59 [66] SC.

Work even until ARMHOLE meas 7 ¼” [7 ¾”] from marked row, end WS.

SHAPE SHOULDERS:
1ST ROW: [RS]: Sl st loosely in each of 3 [4] SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, SC in front lp of each SC to last 4 [5] SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, sl st in next SC = 53 [58] SC. Ch1, turn each row.

2ND ROW: Sk sl st, sl st in each of next 3 [4] SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, SC in front lp of each SC to last 4 [5] SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, sl st in next SC = 47 [50] SC.

3RD ROW: Sk sl st, sl st in each of next 4 SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, SC in front lp of each SC to last 5 SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, sl st in next SC = 39 [42] SC.

4TH & 5TH ROWS: Rep 3rd row = 23 [26] SC. End off.

LEFT FRONT:
Beg at lower edge, CH 46 [51].

1ST ROW: [RS]: SC in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across = 45 [50] SC.

Work same as BACK until piece meas approx 19” from start or 5” less than BACK to UNDERARM, end WS.

Piece should meas 10” [11”] wide.

SHAPE NECK & ARMHOLE:
Dec 1 SC at end [center edge] of next row, then dec 1 st at center edge every other row 15 [17] times;
AT SAME TIME, when piece meas same as back to UNDERARM, dec 1 st at arm side every other row 11 [12] times = 18 [20] SC.

Work even until ARMHOLE is same as BACK, end WS.

SHAPE SHOULDER:
1ST ROW: Sl st loosely in each of 3 [4] SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, SC in front lp of each SC to last SC, SC thru both lps of last SC = 15 [16] SC. CH 1, turn each row.

2ND ROW: Work to last 4 [5] SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, sl st in next SC = 12 SC.

3RD ROW: Sk sl st, sl st in each of next 4 SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, SC in front lp of each SC to last SC, SC thru both lps of last SC = 8 SC.

4TH ROW: Work to last 5 SC, SC thru both lps of next SC, sl st in next SC. Fasten off.

With pins, mark evenly spaced place of 5 buttons on center edge of left FRONT, 1st one 2” above lower edge, & last one ½” below start of NECK shaping.

BUTTONHOLES:
Beg at
ARM side, work to with last 5 SC, CH 3, sk next 3 SC, finish row.

NEXT ROW: Work SC in each of CH-3 of BUTTONHOLE.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work same as left
FRONT, make BUTTONHOLES opp markers & reverse shaping [center edge is at beg of row, ARM side is at end of row on RS of work].

POCKETS: [MAKE 2]:
Beg at lower edge, CH 8.

1ST ROW: [RS]: 2 SC in 2nd CH from hk, SC in each of next 5 CH, 2 SC in last CH = 9 SC. CH 1, turn each row.

2ND ROW: 2 SC in 1st SC, SC in front lp of each SC to last SC, 2 SC in last SC = 11 SC.

3RD & 4TH ROWS: Rep 2nd row = 15 SC.

Work even for 11 rows, end RS.

EDGING:
NEXT ROW: [RS]:
DO NOT TURN; CH 1, work from LEFT to RIGHT, SC in each SC across as follows; insert hk in st to right of hk, draw up lp, YO & thru both lps on hk. End off.

FINISHING:
With backstitch or overcast st, sew
SHOULDER  & SIDE seams, matching rows.

EDGING:
1ST ROW: [RS]: Join yarn in lower edge of right
FRONT

Keep work flat, work 1 row SC up right FRONT, around NECK edge, down left FRONT, end at lower edge of left FRONT.

2ND ROW: [RS]: DO NOT TURN; CH 1, work from LEFT to RIGHT, SC in each SC around FRONT, NECK & lower edges. Join with sl st in 1st st. 
Fasten off.

Sew pockets on left FRONT, placing pockets 3” apart as shown in photo.

Sew on buttons & sew a button on each POCKET
