1960 Sleeveless Sheath with Contrast Bands #967

SIZE: 
Instructions are for size 12, changes for sizes 14 & 16 are in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Bucilla Paradise, 1-oz skeins, color A – 21 [23 – 34] skeins; color B – 3 [3 – 3] skeins
Crochet hook, aluminum, size “F”, or size you require to obtain gauge
3 Large Decorative buttons for front accent

GAUGE:
5 sc = 1”
11 rows = 2”

MEASUREMENTS:
Width of skirt at lower edge 40” [42” -44”]
At hipline 36” [38” -40”]
Waist 32” [34” – 36”]
Bust 36” [38” – 40’]
Width of back at underarm 18” [19” – 20”]

NOTE:
Instructions are for skirt 25” from lower edge to waist.  Make any necessary adjustment in length before 1st dec row.

BACK:  
With B, ch 101 [105 – 111] sts.  Work 1 sc in 2nd & each rem st of ch; 100 [104 – 110] sc.  Mark for wrong side.

2ND ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc.

Rep 2nd row until 9 rows from beg, working off 2 lps of last sc in last row with A to change color.  Fasten off B.

With A only, rep 2nd row until 8” – about 44 rows – above border, end on wrong side.

1ST DEC ROW:  Ch 1, turn, draw up lp in each of 1st 2 sc, yo & thru all 3 lps on hk – a dec--, 1 sc in each sc to within 2 sts of end, dec 1 st as before; 98 [102 – 108] sc.

Rep dec each side every 12th row 4 times more; 90 [94 – 100] sc at hipline; about 17” above border.

Rep dec each side every 6th row 5 times more; 80 [84 -90] sc.

Work even until 23” – about 126 rows – above border, end on wrong side.  Mark for waistline.

Work 6 rows even.

INC ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in 1st sc, 2 sc in next sc – an inc--, 1 sc in each sc to within 2 sc of end, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in last sc; 82 [86 -92] sc.

Rep inc each side every 6th row 4 times; 90 [94 – 100] sc.

Work even until 7” above waistline marker, end on wrong side.  Mark for underarm.

ARMHOLES:  
Leave off 4 [3 – 4] sts each side for underarm as follows:  ch 1, turn, sl st in each of 1st 3 [3 – 4] sts, 1 sc in each sc to within 3 [3 - 4] sc of end, ch 1, turn.

Dec 1 st each side every 2nd row 6 [7 -8] times; 72 [74 -76] sc.

Work 1 row even, end on wrong side.

BACK OPENING:  
Ch 1, turn, work 1 sc in each of 36 [37 – 38] sc for right half of back.

Ch 1, turn, work 15 rows even, end at armhole edge, about 5 ½” [5 ¾” – 6”] above underarm marker.

NECK & RIGHT SHOULDER SHAPING:
1ST ROW:  Ch 1, turn, work 1 sc in each of 21 [22 – 23] sc, dec 1 st in next 2 sts, leave rem 13 sts free for neck edge.

2ND ROW:  Ch 1, turn, dec 1 st at beg of row, work to end; 21 [22 – 23] sc.

Rep dec at neck edge every row 6 times, end at armhole edge; 15 [16 – 17] sts, about 7” [7 ¼” – 7 ½”] above underarm marker.  Beg shoulder shaping.

9TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, sl st in each of 1st e [4 -4] sc for shoulder, work sc even to end.

10TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 9 sc, sl st in next sc.

11TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, sk sl st, sl st in each of next 3 sc, work sc to end.

12TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 3 sc, sl st in next st.  Fasten off.

Beg at center back edge, work 16 rows sc on 36 [37 – 38] sts of left half of back, end at center edge.  Fasten off.

NECK & LEFT SHOULDER SHAPING:
1ST ROW:  Turn, sk 1st 13 sts for neck edge; with lp on hk, dec 1 st in next 2 sts, work sc to end; 22 [23 – 24] sc.

Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 7 times; 15 [16 – 17] sc.  Beg shoulder shaping.

9TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, work 12 [12 – 13] sc, sl st in next st.

10TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, sk sl st, sl st in each of next 3 [3 – 4] sc, work sc to end; 9 sc.

11TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, work 6 sc, sl st in next sc.

12TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, sk sl st, sl st in each of next 3 sc, work to end.  Fasten off.

FRONT:  
Same as back to waistline.  Mark for waistline.

Work 6 rows even.

INC ROW:  Inc 1 st each side of next row.

Work 5 rows even.

Inc 1 st each side of next row.

Work 3 rows even, end on wrong side; 84 [88 – 94] sc.

CENTER INSERT:
1ST ROW:  Ch 1, turn, work 38 [40 – 43] sc, working off 2 lps of last sc with B, drop A & keep it on wrong side, cont with B, work 8 sc working off 2 lps of last sc with extra skein of A, drop B & keep it on wrong side; with A, work to end.

2ND ROW:  Ch 1, turn, work 38 [40 -43] sc, working off 2 lps of last sc with B, drop A & keep it on wrong side, with B, work 8 sc, working off 2 lps of last sc with A, drop B & keep it on wrong side, with A, work to end.

Always keep yarn not in use on wrong side of work.

NEXT ROW:  Inc 1 st each side, working 8 center sts with B as before; 86 [90 -96] sc.

Cont 8 center sts with B, rep inc each side every 6th row twice; 90 [94 -100] sc.

Work even until same length as back to underarm, end on wrong side.  Mark for underarm.

ARMHOLES:  
Shape armholes as for back; 72 [74 –76] sc.

Work even until 24 [26 -28] rows – about 4 ½” [4 ¾” – 5”] above underarm marker, end on wrong side.

Fasten off B & extra skein of A.

NECK & LEFT SHOULDER SHAPING:
1ST ROW:  Ch 1, turn, work 1 sc in each of 21 [22 – 23] sc, dec 1 st in next 2 sts.

2ND ROW:  Ch 1, turn, dec 1 st at beg of row, work to end; 21` [22 – 23] sc.

Rep dec at neck edge every row 6 times, end at armhole edge; 15 [16 – 17] sc.

Work 6 rows even after last dec row, end at armhole edge.

Shape shoulder as for right shoulder of back.

NECK & RIGHT SHOULDER SHAPING:
From right side, sk next 26 sc on last long row for center front of neck, with lp on hk, dec 1 st in next 2 sts, work sc to end; 22 [23 – 24] sc.

Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 7 times; 15 [16 – 17] sc.

Work 6 rows even after last dec row, end at neck edge.

Shape shoulder as for left shoulder of back.

Sew side & shoulder seams.

Sk 13 sts on right back neck edge, join A & from wrong side, work 32 sc evenly spaced on right neck edge to 1st dec row on right front; fasten off.

Sk 26 sts of front, join A & work 32 sc on left neck edge to 1st dec row on left back, leaving 13 sts of left back neck edge free.

NECK BORDER:
1ST ROW:  RIGHT SIDE – With B, beg at center back, work 13 sc on left back neck edge, 32 sc on side edge, 26 sc on front, 32 sc on other side edge, 13 sc on right back neck edge; 116 sc.

2ND ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc.

Rep 2nd row, 3 times more.

6TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, work 12 sc, dec 1 st in next 2 sts, * work 4 sc, dec 1 sc as before *; rep bet *’s 14 times, work sc to end; 100 sc.

Work 1 row even.

8TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, work 10 sc, dec 1 st in next 2 sts, rep bet *’s of 6th row, 13 times, work sc to end; 86 sc.

Work 1 row even, end on right side; do not fasten off; cont on side edge of opening, work 7 sc on edge of neck border, working off 2 lps of last sc with A, fasten off B; with A, keeping work flat, work sc around back opening to border, working off 2 lps of last sc with B, fasten off A, with B, work 1 sc on edge of 1st row of border, ch 1 for buttonhole, sk 1 row, work 3 sc to within 2 rows of top, ch 1, sk 1 row, work 1 sc at top.  Fasten off.

With A, from right side, work 1 row sc around armholes, keeping work flat.

Make or buy 2 small buttons & sew on back neck opening, opposite buttonholes.

Trim front band with 3 large buttons as shown in photo.
