1955 Infant’s Knot Lace Sweater 3-Piece Set #B221

MATERIALS:
4 oz Baby Yarn 3-Ply
OR
4 oz Nylon Yarn 3-Ply
1 Bone or Plastic Crochet Hook #4

GAUGE/TENSION:
5  DC = 1”
3 Rows = 1”

SWEATER:
YOKE:
Start at neck edge, CH 68 [VERY LOOSELY]; turn, 1 DC in 4th CH from hk, 1 DC in next CH, * CH 1, 1 DC in next 6 sts; rep from * 9 times more, end with CH 1, 1 DC in last 3 sts. CH 3, turn.

2ND ROW: Sk 1 DC, 1 DC in 2 DC, * CH 1, 1 DC in next 6 DC; rep from * 9 times more; end with CH 1, 1 DC in next 2 DC, 1 DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

3RD ROW: Sk 1st DC, 2 DC in next st [AN INC], 1 DC in next DC, * CH 1, 1 DC in next 3 sts, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next 2 sts; rep from * across row, end with CH 1, 1 DC in next DC, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

4TH ROW: Sk 1st DC, 1 DC in next 3 DC, * CH 1, 1 DC in next 7 sts; rep from * across row, end with CH 1, 1 DC in next 3 sts, 1 DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

5TH ROW: Sk 1 DC, 1 DC in next 3 sts,* CH 1, 1 DC in next 3 sts, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next 3 sts; rep from * across row, end with CH 1M 1 DC in next 3 sts, 1 DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

6TH ROW: Sk 1st st, 1 DC in next 3 sts, * CH 1, 1 DC in next 4 sts, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next 3 sts; rep from * across & end with CH 1, 1 DC in next 3 sts, 1 DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

7TH ROW: Sk 1st DC, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next 2 STS, * CH 1, 1 DC in next 4 sts, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next 4 sts; rep from * across row & end with CH 1, 1 DC in next 2 sts, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

8TH ROW: Sk 1st st, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next 3 sts, * CH 1, 1 DC in next 4 sts, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next 5 sts; rep from * across row, end with CH 1, 1 DC in next 3 sts, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

9TH ROW: Sk 1 st, 1 DC in next 5 sts, * CH 1, 1 DC in next 11 sts; rep from * across row, end with CH 1, 1 DC in next 5 sts, 1 DC in top of turning CH. [NOTE: YOKE SHOULD BE 3” DEEP]. CH 1, turn.

10TH ROW: IN WORKING THIS ROW, COUNT CH-1 ON ROW BELOW AS 1 ST. Make 1 SC IN 1ST 21 sts, CH 8, sk next 25 sts for armhole; 1 SC in next 41 sts, CH 8, sk next 25 sts for 2nd armhole, 1 SC in last 20 sts, 1 SC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

PATTERN:
1ST ROW: * Draw lp on hk out to meas ½”, YO & draw lp thru, insert hk bet single & dbl lps & draw lp thru, YO & draw thru 2 lps on hk [KNOT ST]; sk 1 st, SC in next st; rep from * across row, end with SC in last st. CH 3, turn.

2ND ROW: Make knot st; * SC under dbl lp of next knot st, make another knot st; rep from * across row, end with SC. CH 3, turn.

Rep 2nd row until piece meas 6” from underarm. DO NOT BREAK THREAD.

EDGE:
CH 5, turn, 1 SC under dbl lp of knot st, CH 5; rep from * across bottom of sweater up along front edge until you come to the yoke; work in SC along front edge, KEEP WORK FLAT, across neck edge & down 2nd side of yoke; now work rem down in front with CH 5. Join with sl st to starting CH 5. Break yarn & fasten off.

SLEEVES:
Attach yarn at center of CH 8 at underarm edge, 34 SC around armhole. CH 3, turn.

Start with patt 1st row as on sweater, work back & forth until sleeve meas 5” from edge of yoke. CH 1, turn.

CUFF:
2 SC over each knot st. CH 3, turn.

NEXT ROW: 1 DC in each st across row. CH 3, turn.

Rep last row 2 more times. Break yarn & leave 10”.

Sew up sleeve seam.

Make 2nd sleeve in same way.

BONNET:
Start at center back, CH 8, join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND: CH 3, 2 DC into ring, * CH 1, 3 DC into ring; rep from * 4 times, CH 1, join with sl st to top of CH 3.

2ND RND: CH 3, 1 DC in same sp as this CH, 1 DC in next st, 2 DC in next st, * CH 1, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next st, 2 DC in next st; rep from * 4 times, end with CH 1, join with sl st to top of CH 3.

3RD RND: CH 3, 1 DC in same sp as this CH, 1 DC in next 3 sts, 2 DC in next st, * CH 1, 2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next 3 sts, 2 DC in next st; rep from * 4 times, end with CH 1, join with sl st to top of CH 3.

4TH & 5TH RNDS: Work as 3rd rnd, have 2 sts more bet incs.

At end of 6th rnd, CH 1, make 1 SC in next 60 sts [COUNT CH 1 SP ON ROW BELOW AS ST]; leaves 12 sts for back of neck.

NEXT ROW: CH 3, turn, * make knot st, sk 1, SC in next st, rep from * across 60 sts, end with SC in last st.

Work in patt as on sweater for 3 ½”. CH 1, turn.

FRONT BAND:
1 SC in 1st SC, * 2 DC over knot st, rep from * across row, end with SC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

NEXT ROW: 1 DC in each st across row. CH 3, turn.

Rep last row 2 more times. Break yarn.

Turn back 3 rows of DC for front band.

Tack down at sides.

NECK BAND:
Attach yarn at front edge & make 54 SC along neck edge, CH 1, turn.

Make 3 rows of SC. Break yarn.

Trim with ribbon.

BOOTIES:
INSTEP & SOLE:
CH 10, turn, 1 SC in 2nd st from hk, 1 SC in each rem CH [9 SC]. CH 1, turn.

Work 1 SC in each st across row.

Work 7 more rows of SC.

CH 30 for ankle; join with sl st to opp corner of instep.

Make 9 SC along side of instep; 9 SC across toe, 9 SC along 2nd side of instep; 1 SC in each of 30 CH sts.

Make 8 more rows of SC. Break yarn.

TOP PART:
Attach yarn at center st of CH 30.

Start with 1st patt row as on sweater, BUT SK 2 STS BET KNOT STS on 1st row.

Work in patt until piece meas 2 ½ “.

Finish with edge as on sweater aross top of bootie. Break yarn.

Sew up back & sole of bootie.

Make 2nd bootie in same way.

Trim with ribbon.
