1 spool Fairknit Corde, Contrast Color [CC]

GAUGE:
11 sts = 2”

ASCOT:
Starting at one end with MC, cast on 3 sts.
Starting at one end with MC, cast on 3 sts.
1ST ROW: K across.
2ND ROW: K 1, inc 1 st in next st, k 1. Cont in garter st [all k], inc in 2nd
st on every other row until there are 36 sts on needle.
Work even for 15”.
NEXT ROW: * K 1, sl next st on holder, rep from *
across row.
Rib in k 1, p 1 on 18 sts
rem on needle for 2”.
Place these sts on
holder, break corde.
Sl 18 sts from first holder
onto needle, tie in CC & rib in k 1, p 1 for 2”.
NEXT ROW: K sts alternately from needle & holder,
replace them in original order.
Work even for 1”.
Starting at edge where
incs were made, k 1, k 2 tog, k across to end of needle.
Dec 1 st in this manner
on every other row until 3 sts rem. Bind
off.
FINISHING:
Thread gold coins onto long piece of CC yarn, &, starting at one corner of CC, k 1, p 1 strip, working thru top of st only, crochet 1 sc in first st, sl coin into position, work 1 sc in next st, * 1 sc in next st, sl coin into position & work 1 sc in next st, rep from * around 4 sides as shown in photo. Break corde, fasten off.

Change to MC & cont
in garter st for 2” more [2 ¾” in all], dec 9 sts on last row [104 sts].
NEXT ROW: * K 11, k 2 tog, rep from * across row. P back even.
NEXT ROW: * K 10, k 2 tog, rep from * across row. P back even.
NEXT ROW: * K 9, k 2 tog, rep from * across row. P back even.
Cont in this manner, k 1
st less before decs on every other row until 8 sts rem.
Draw corde thru rem sts,
& break off.
Sew seam.
TAB:
With CC, cast on 1 st.
With CC, cast on 1 st.
Working in garter st, inc
1 st at beg & end of every other row until there are 7 sts.
Work even in garter st
until piece meas same as distance from top of hat to bottom of CC border.
Inc 1 st at beg & end
of every other row until there are 11 sts.
Then dec 1 st at beg
& end of every other row until 3 sts rem.
Bind off.
FINISHING:
Thread gold coins onto long strand of CC, & with crochet hk, starting halfway down CC strip & working thru top half of sts only, work across 7 sts, working in coin in every other st, work down 5 sts along 1 side, across 7 sts, & up 5 sts along other side. Break corde & fasten off.
