1950s Dog Two-Tone

Directions
for sizes small & large in brackets.
MATERIALS:
1
skein Knitting worsted Main Color [MC] for body [4 oz skein]
1
ball Sportyarn Contrast Color [CC] for collar & legs [2 oz ball]
1
Set Sock Needles each #2 & #5
1
Pair #5 Knitting Needles
1
Crochet Hook #3
COLLAR:
With
Sport yarn & #2 needles cast on 88 [80, 96] sts. Join, be careful not to twist sts.
Work
in ribbing for 5” [3 ½”, 6”].
Change
to Knitting Worsted & #5 sock needles & cont in ribbing for 1” [1”, 1 ½”].
From
now on divide work for upper & under part.
UPPER
PART:
With
#5 knitting needles work back & forth in ribbing on 64 [60, 68] sts for 8”
[7”, 9”].
*
Dec 1 st at beg of next 2 rows, work even for 2 rows. Rep from * once more: 60 [56, 64] sts left.
Change
to #2 needles & dec 1 st at beg of each row until 44 [40, 48] sts are
left.
Bind
off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2
rows. Bind off rem 30 [26, 34] sts.
UNDER
PART:
With
#5 knitting needles work back & forth in ribbing on 24 [20, 28] sts for 4 ½”
[4”, 5”].
Now
work across the first 10 [8, 12] sts & sl them to holder, bind off next 4
sts, work to end of row.
Work
on these 10 [8, 12] sts only & bind off 2 sts at center edge once.
Dec
1 st at center edge every other row until 3 sts are left over. Bind off.
Sl
the 10 [8, 12] sts from holder back to needle & finish this side to
correspond.
LEGS:
With
Sport yarn & #2 needles cast on 36 [28, 44] sts & work in ribbing for
12 [8, 16] rows.
Change
to Knitting worsted & #5 needles & work in ribbing for 14 [10, 18]
rows.
Bind
off loosely K as K & P as P.
Work
the other leg to correspond.
FINISHING:
Sew
upper & lower parts tog, leave 3” [2“, 4“] open on each side for leg
opening 6 ½” [5”, 7 ½”] away from beg.
Sew
legs into openings.
With
Sport yarn & #3 hook crochet 2 rows
sc around body part.
Block
to size.
