4 – 125 yd spools Mary Lamb Cordet
OR any of the following: 1 lb. Corde, 3
gr Soutache, 1 lb spool Guimp, or 2 spools Ribbonette
BAG:
Ch 79 sts.
1ST
ROW: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from
hk & in each ch across row, ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: [RIGHT SIDE]: Work 1 sc in each of next 6 sts * ch 4, work
1 sc in 3rd ch from hk [a p/picot], work sc in each of next 6
sts. Rep bet * across row, ending row 1
sc in last 6 sts.
3RD
& ALL ODD ROWS: Work in sc st for
st, ch 1, turn.
4TH
ROW: Work 1 sc in each of next 5 sts, *
work p then work 1 sc in each of next 6 sts.
Rep bet * across row, ending with p & sc, ch 1, turn.
6TH
ROW: Work 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, *
work p then work 1 sc in each of next 6 sts.
Rep bet * across row, ending with p & 2 sc, ch 1, turn.
8TH
ROW: Same as 6th row with
exception that you start & end with 3 sc, ch 1, turn.
10TH
ROW: Same as 6th row with
exception that you start with 2 sc & end row with 4 sc.
12TH
ROW: Same as 6th row with
exception that you start with 1 sc & end row with 5 sc.
14TH
ROW: Same as 10th row.
16TH
ROW: Same as 8th row.
18TH
ROW: Same as 6th row.
20TH
ROW: Same as 4th row.
Rep
these 20 rows for patt.
Work
for 8”.
Make
2 pieces.
BAND
FOR TOP OF BAG:
Ch 10 sts.
Work
1 sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch st.
Work
in sc, st for st for 10”. Break yarn.
Make
2 pieces.
Join
to top of bag with sc.
GUSSET:
Ch 10 sts.
Work
1 sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across row, ch 1, turn.
Work
in sc, st for st, inc 1 st either end, every 3rd row until gusset
meas 3” across, then work even until it meas to within 3” of desired length,
then dec as you inc, until 10 sts rem.
Break yarn.
HANDLES:
Work same as band around top of bag. Make 2.
MISS
JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
Make
paper patt for each crocheted piece before joinings & lay aside to be used
later.
Cut
lining according to paper patts & sew tog.
Shirr
lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.
Insert
finished lining in bag.
Sew
in zipper [if desired].
Note:
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted
between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
