Vintage 1940s Motif Envelope Bag #492
Quick & easy to crochet this charming purse…stylish lines of lassic design…sophisticated & smart, season-spanning, wardrobe favorite…perfect for any occasion!

MATERIALS: 
5 spools F & K Corde, or 3 gross Soutache, or 4 gross Ribbonette
#5 Bone Crochet Hook
½ yd Lining Material
1 Large Button Mold

STITCHES:
BET  =       Between              
CH    =       Chain
PREV=      Previous              
REP  =       Repeat
SC    =       Single Crochet   
SK    =       Skip
SL ST=      Slip Stitch            
ST     =       Stitch
TRC  =       Triple Crochet

MOTIFS:  
Ch 6, join with sl st, ch 3.

1ST ROW:  4 Trc in ring, ch 2, * 5 trc in ring, ch 2 *, rep bet * 2 more times, join with sl st, ch 1.

2ND ROW:  * Work 1 sc in each trc, 3 sc under ch 2 of prev row *, rep bet *s 3 times, join, ch 1.

3RD ROW:  Work 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 3 sc in next st, * 1 sc in next 7 sc, 3 sc in next st * rep bet * 2 times.  Join with sl st.

Make 42 motifs.

Ch 8, work sc back & forth, taking whole st, for approx 28”.

JOINING:  Join 7 strips of 4 squares, 1 strip of 10 squares & 2 strips of 2 squares.

Sew 3 strips of 4 squares tog.

Sew 4 strips of 4 squares tog, & to one end of these 4 strips, join 2 strips of 2 squares, leave an opening in center.

Sew strip of 10 squares around three sides of 12 square piece; then sew on other side leaving 4 squares with opening in center for flap.

Make paper patt for crocheted piece & lay aside to be used later.

Now fold the long narrow crocheted piece in half & sew around flap, crossing it over at center of flap.

BUTTON:  
Ch 6, join with sl st, ch 4, work 22 trc in ring; place large button mold in center & work one or two rows of sc around, sk an occasional st to hold it solid to button.

FINISHING:  
Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag.

Attach Button to Bag.

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
