1940s Easy Lace Baby 3-Piece Sweater Set #B201
SIZE:
Infants. Size may be increased by changing the weight of yarn & size of needles.

MATERIALS:
Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, ¾ oz Balls:
3 Balls - Sweater; 1 Ball – Cap; 1 Ball – Shoes; 5 Balls - Entire Set.
1 Pair Milwards Casein Knitting Pins # 7
2 Satin Rosettes
2 Small Buttons for Shoes
4 yds Satin Ribbon ½"

GAUGE:
5 sts = 1”
6 rows = 1”

SWEATER:
Start at neck edge, cast on 52 sts.

1ST ROW: K 9 sts for LEFT FRONT; (O, K 1, O) for 1st seam; K 6 for LEFT SLEEVE; (O, K 1, O) for 2nd seam; K 18 for BACK; (O, K 1, O) for 3rd seam; K 6 for RIGHT SLEEVE; (O, K 1, O) for 4th seam; K 9 for RIGHT FRONT = 60 sts.

2ND ROW: P 10, place colored thread for marker in next st (seam st) & P it, P 8, place marker & P st, P 20, place marker & P st, P 8, place marker & P st, P 10.

3RD ROW: K 10, O, K 1, O, K 8, O, K 1, O, K 20, O, K 1, O, K 8, O, K 1, O, K 10 = 68 sts.

4TH ROW: P 2, (P 2 tog, O) 3 times; P 7 (P 2 tog, O) 2 times; P 7 (P 2 tog, O) 8 times; P 7 (P 2 tog, O) 2 times; P 7 (P 2 tog, O) 3 times, P 2.

5TH ROW: K 11, O, K 1, O, K 10, O, K 1, O, K 22, O, K 1, O, K 10, O, K 1, O, K 11 = 76 sts.

6TH ROW: P across in each st & O.

7TH ROW: K 12, O, K 1, O, K 12, O, K 1, O, K 24, O, K 1, O, K 12, O, K 1, O, K 12 = 84 sts.

8TH ROW: P 2, (P 2 tog, O) 4 times; P 7 (P 2 tog, O) 4 times; P 7 (P 2 tog, O) 10 times; P 7 (P 2 tog, O) 4 times; P 7 (P 2 tog, O) 4 times, P 2.
  
NEXT ROWS: Cont work patt as established, making O for seam inc before & after K 1 seam st on each K row; & work Patt St on alt P rows (have 3 P sts on either side of seam st) until there are 164 sts on needle (last row is patt st row).

NEXT ROW: Now work to K 1 of 2nd seam (end of LEFT SLEEVE).

Start with K 1 st, take off sts of BACK, RIGHT SLEEVE, & RIGHT FRONT on st holders to be worked later.

NEXT ROW: Work back over 34 sts of LEFT SLEEVE & (start with K 1 of 1st seam) take off sts of LEFT FRONT on st holder.

Work over sts of LEFT SLEEVE, in patt as established, inc as follows:
1ST ROW: (K row) Inc in 1st st. * K 8, inc in next st. Rep from * 2 times more end row with K 6 = 38 sts.

NEXT ROW: Work 7 rows straight.

NEXT ROW: Inc in 1st st. * K 5, inc in next st. Rep from * 4 times more end row with K 7 = 44 sts.

NEXT ROW: Work 7 rows straight.

FOLLOWING ROW: Inc in 1st st. * K 6, inc in next st. Rep from * 4 times more ending row with K 8 = 50 sts.

NEXT ROW: Work 7 rows straight.

NEXT ROW: Inc in 1st st. * K 7, inc in next st. Rep from * 4 times more end row with K 9 = 56 sts.

NEXT ROW: Work straight until SLEEVE meas 11” from neck edge. Bind off.

Pick up sts of RIGHT SLEEVE, join yarn & work to corres with LEFT SLEEVE.

Pick up 24 sts of LEFT FRONT, 48 sts of BACK & 24 sts of RIGHT FRONT.

Attach yarn & join by working in patt as established, inc as follows:
1ST ROW: (K row) K 9. * Inc 1 st in next st, K 6. Rep from * across end with K 9 = 108 sts.

NEXT ROW: Work 7 rows straight.

FOLLOWING ROW: (K row) K 9. * Inc 1 st in next st, K 7. Rep from * across end with K 10 = 120 sts.

NEXT ROW: Work straight until piece meas 10” from neck edge. Bind off.

Press through damp cloth.

Sew sleeve seams.

Work 1 row of SC around all edges, hold neck edge in to 8½”.

Work back over SC at neck as follows: Ch 5, turn. * Sk 2 SC, 1 DC in next SC, ch 2. Rep from * around neck edge. Fasten off.

Run ribbon through sps, using ends for ties.

CAP:
Start at front edge, cast on 66 sts.

NEXT ROW:  & work in K 2, P 2 ribbing for 1½”.

Dec 1 st on last row & work RUFFLE as follows:
1ST ROW: K 5, * O, K 5. Rep from * across.

2ND ROW: P 5, * K 1, P 5. Rep from * across.

3RD ROW: K 5, * O, P 1, O, K 5. Rep from * across.

4TH ROW: P 5, * K 3, P 5. Rep from * across.

5TH ROW: K 5, * O, P 3, O, K 5. Rep from * across.

6TH ROW: P 5, * K 5, P 5. Rep from * across.

7TH ROW: K 5, * O, P 5, O, K 5. Rep from * across.

8TH ROW: P 5, * K 7, P 5. Rep from * across.

Bind off, K the K sts & P the P sts.

NEXT ROWS: Pick up 64 sts across last row of K 2, P 2 ribbing & work straight in Patt St for 4½”.

NEXT ROWS: Bind off 22 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Work over rem 20 sts (CENTER BACK PIECE) for 4½”. Bind off.

Press through damp cloth.

Sew bound-off sts on each side to 4½” edge of CENTER BACK PIECE.

Work row of SC at bottom of cap, ease in back to fit. Ch 5, turn.

* Sk 2 sc, 1 dc in next sc, ch 2. Rep from * across. Fasten off.

Sew rosettes in place.

Run ribbon through sps, use ends for ties.

SHOES:
SOLE:
Cast on 10 sts.

1ST ROW: K across.

2ND ROW: K 1, P 8, K 1.

NEXT ROWS: Rep these 2 rows alt for 4”.

NEXT ROWS: Still keep 1 st at both ends in garter st, dec 1 st at both ends of every other row until 6 sts rem (TOE). Bind off.

TOP:
Cast on 35 sts.

NEXT ROW: K 3 rows.

NEXT ROW: K 22, turn.

TOEPIECE:
1ST ROW: K 1, (P 2 tog, O) 3 times; P 1, K 1, turn.

2ND ROW: K 9, turn.

3RD ROW: K 1, P 7, K 1, turn.

4TH ROW: K 9, turn.

NEXT ROWS: Rep these 4 rows 2 more times, then 1st & 2nd rows once more.

NEXT ROWS: Now work in ST ST, dec 1 st at both ends of every other row twice. Bind off rem 5 sts.

With right side facing, attach yarn at end of 13 sts on right hand needle, pick up 36 sts around edges of TOEPIECE, & K across 13 sts on left-hand needle.

NEXT ROWS: Work in ST ST for 8 rows. Bind off.

TONGUE:
Cast on 10 sts.

NEXT ROWS: Work 1” in ribbing of P 2, K 2.

FLAP:
1ST ROW: K 5, O, K 5.

2ND ROW: P 5, K 1, P 5.

3RD ROW: K 5, O, P 1, O, K 5.

4TH ROW: P 5, K 3, P 5.

5TH ROW: K 5, O, P 3, O, K 5.

6TH ROW: P 5, K 5, P 5.

7TH ROW: K 5, O, P 5, O, K 5.

8TH ROW: P 5, K 7, P 5.

9TH ROW: K 5, O, P 2 tog, P 3, P 2 tog, O, K 5.

NEXT ROWS: Rep last 2 rows alt until flap meas 2¼”.

NEXT ROWS: K 4 rows & bind off.

STRAP:
Sew back seam.

Cast on 13 sts, then with right side facing, pick up 6 sts across back 1” of shoe & cast on 13 sts = 32 sts in all.

NEXT ROWS: Work in garter st for 4 rows.

NEXT ROW: K 2, K 2 tog, O, K to end of row (BUTTONHOLE).

NEXT ROWS: Work 4 more rows, & bind off.

Sew in SOLE.

Sew on TONGUE & BUTTON.

Bring TONGUE over STRAP & sew on snap fastener.
