Vintage 1935 Back-Interest Blouse #555

A clever woman will quickly crochet this lovely, back-buttoned, blouse…classic style, slimming lines & popcorn stitch pattern make this exceptional garment a wardrobe favorite!

SIZE:  34” - 36”

MATERIALS: 
J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 10 balls
#5 Steel Crochet Hook
6 Button Molds, or Buttons

GAUGE: 
8 sts = 1”;     4 rows = 1”

NOTE:  Blouse may be worn either front or back.

FRONT: 
Beg at lower edge, ch 126, turn.

1ST ROW:  1 Dc in 4th ch from hook & in each st of foundation ch [124 dc counting turning ch-3 as dc], ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  Dc in next dc, 1 pc st in next dc [made as follows:  ch 1, 5 dc in next dc, drop st from hk, insert hk back in ch-1 & draw dropped lp thru one on hk], * dc in each of next 9 dc, 1 pc in next dc, rep from * across, ending row with 2 dc, ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW:  Make 1 dc in each dc, & 1 dc over each pc, ending row with dc over turning ch-3, ch 3, turn.

4TH ROW:  1 Dc in each of next 6 dc, 1 pc in next dc, * 1 dc in each of next 9 dc, 1 pc in next dc [so that pc of this row come directly above center of sp bet pc of 2nd row.]  Rep from * across ending row with 7 dc, ch 3, turn.

5TH ROW:  Same as 3rd row.

6TH THRU 50TH ROWS:  Rep 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th in order.

51ST ROW:  Beg to dec for armhole, 1 dc in each dc, & 1 dc in each pc to within 5 dc from end of row [always count turning ch-3 as 1 dc].  To dec last 5 sts on row * yo, insert hk in next st, draw thru lp, yo, draw thru 2 lps on hk, rep from * 4 more times [6 lps on hk], yo, & take off 2 lps at time for 5 times, ch 3, turn.

52ND, 53RD & 54TH ROWS:  Cont with patt & dec last 5 sts of each row as done prev.

55TH THRU 71ST ROWS:  Cont with patt evenly.

72ND ROW:  Beg to dec for shoulder.  Work patt to within 11 sts from end of row.  To dec last 11 sts of row, rep from * to * of 51st row [12 lps on hk], then yo & take off 2 lps at time 11 times.  Ch 3, turn.

73RD THRU 77TH ROWS:  Cont with patt & dec last 11 sts of each row as done prev

78TH THRU 83RD ROWS:  Work evenly.  Fasten off.

RIGHT BACK: 
Ch 87, turn.

1ST ROW:  1 Dc in 4th ch from hk & in each st of foundation ch [85 dc--counting turning ch-3 as 1 dc], ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  1 Dc in each of next 6 dc, 1 pc in next dc, * 1 dc in each of next 9 dc, 1 pc in next dc.  Rep from * across ending row with 7 dc.  Ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW-  1 Dc in each dc & 1 dc in each pc st, to within 9 sts from end of row, ch 5, sk 5 sts [to form button hole], dc in each of next 4 dc, ch 3, turn.

4TH ROW:  1 Dc in next dc, 1 pc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc & in each of next 5 ch, & in each of next 3 dc, 1 pc in next dc.  Cont with patt across.  Ch 3, turn.

5TH THRU 16TH ROWS:  Cont with patt evenly.

17TH ROW:  Work across as before to within 9 sts from end of row.  Then make buttonhole & complete row as done in 3rd row.  Ch 3, turn.

18TH ROW:  Work patt evenly over dc & ch sts.  Ch 3, turn.

19TH THRU 30TH ROWS:  Work evenly.

31ST ROW:  Make buttonhole.

32ND THRU 44TH ROWS:  Work evenly.

45TH ROW:  Make buttonhole.

46TH THRU 53RD ROWS:  Work evenly.

54TH ROW:  To dec for underarm, work patt across to within 24 sts from end of row, rep from * to * of 51st row of front ( times [10 lps on hk], then work off 2 lps at a time 9 times, ch 3, turn.

55TH THRU 58TH ROWS:  Work evenly.

59TH ROW:  Work buttonhole.

60TH THRU 72ND ROWS:  Work evenly.

73RD ROW:  Work buttonhole.

74TH ROW:  To shape neck & shoulder, work across to within 13 sts from end of row, then rep from * to * of 51st row of front 5 times, ch 3, turn.

75TH ROW:  Work across to within 23 sts from end of row, & rep from * to * of 51st row of front 5 times, ch 3, turn.

76TH THRU 80TH ROWS:  Work as before to within 5 sts from end of row, then dec these 5 sts as done prev. 

LEFT BACK: 
Make to correspond with right back, without buttonholes, as this is side buttons are sewn on.

SLEEVES: 
Ch 91, turn.

1ST ROW:  Dc in 4th ch from hk, dc in each st of foundation ch [89 dc in all, counting turning ch-3], ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  1 Dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 pc in next, * 1 dc in each of next 9 dc, 1 pc in next.  Rep from * across ending row with 4 dc, ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW:  Dc in each dc & in each pc to end of row, make 1 dc over turning ch-3, ch 3, turn.

4TH ROW:  1 Dc in each of next 8 dc, 1 pc in next, * 1 dc, in each of next 9 dc, 1 pc in next.  Rep from * across ending row with 9 dc.

5TH ROW:  Same as 3rd row.

6TH ROW:  Same as 2nd row.

7TH ROW:  Same as 3rd row.

8TH THRU 20TH ROWS:  Inc 1 dc at end of each row & cont with patt.

21ST THRU 27TH ROWS:  Start shaping top of sleeve.  

Dec 5 sts at end of each row, as done prev. 

28TH THRU 35TH ROWS:  Dec 7 sts at end of each row.

36TH THRU 49TH ROWS:  Work evenly.

COLLAR: 
Ch 31, turn.

1ST ROW:  1 Dc in 4th ch from hk & in each st of foundation ch [29 dc--counting ch-3 as 1 dc], ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  1 Dc in next dc, 1 pc in next, * 1 dc in each of next 9 dc, 1 pc in next, & rep from * once more, then dc in each of next 6 dc, ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW:  1 Dc in each dc & in each pc.  Ch 3, turn.

4TH ROW:  1 Dc in each of next 6 dc, 1 pc in next * 1 dc in each of next 9 dc, 1 pc in next.  Rep from * once more, ending with dc in turning ch-3.  Ch 3, turn.

5TH ROW:  Same as 3rd row.

6TH THRU 18TH ROWS:  Rep 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th rows in order.  At end of 18th row, break off.  

Make another piece like this one, but do not break off at end of 18th row. 

19TH ROW:  1 Dc in each dc & in each pc to end of row, ch 51, & cont making dc in each dc & in each pc of first piece made.  Ch 3, turn.

20TH ROW:  Cont with design across [working over ch-51].  Ch 3, turn.

21ST THRU 36TH ROWS:  Work as before, dec 4 sts at end of each row.  Break off.

Make row of sc spaced evenly around all edges of blouse.

Cover 6 buttons with sc & sew in place to correspond with buttonholes.

Blouse may be worn either front or back.

Make belt of dc or use leather belt.
