Vintage 1940s Girl’s Fancy Lace Dress #C111


Quick & easy to crochet this delightful, lace dress…perfect for many special occasions!

SIZE: 
2, 3, 4, & 5. 
The directions in this pattern are for size 2 with changes for sizes 3, 4, & 5 in parentheses.

Materials:
J & P Coats or Clarks ONT Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 30; 7 (7, 9, 9) Balls White
#11 Steel Crochet Hook
2 1/2 Yards Velvet Ribbon 1/4" wide.

BACK: 
Start at neck edge, ch 144 (156, 168, 180) sts to meas about 12 (13, 14, 15)".

1ST ROW:  * Draw lp on hk out about 1/4", yo & draw thread thru making ch st of it; insert hk bet lp & single thread of this ch & make sc (knot st made), make another knot st, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch.  Rep from * across. 

There are 36 (39, 42, 45) sps on row.  Make two 3/8" knot sts to turn.

2ND ROW:  *Sc in double lp at right of next knot, sc in double lp at left of same knot, 2 knot sts, rep from * across, end with sc at left of last knot.  Make two 3/8" knot sts to turn.

Rep row 2, inc 2 knot sts at both ends of one row every 3rd row until there are 50 (53, 56, 59) sps.

TO INC: Make sc in double lp of one side of center knot, 2 knot sts, sc on other side of same center knot.

ARMHOLES: 
At end of next 2 rows, ch 32 & work , back over this ch, making 8 sps. 

Work even over 66 (69, 72, 75) sps until piece meas in all 16 (16, 17 1/2, 19)".  Break off.

Make another piece in same way for Front.

SLEEVES: 
Start at neck edge, ch 64 (72, 76, 80) sts. 

Work back in knot st patt, make 16 (18, 19, 20) sps. 

Work in knot st patt, inc 2 knot sts at both ends of one row every 1/2" until there are 32 (34, 37, 40) sps in row & piece meas 4 (4, 4 1/2, 5)" in all.

At end of next 2 rows ch 16 & work back over this ch, make 8 double knot sts (4) sps. 

There are 40 (42, 45, 48) sps on row. 

Work even until sleeve meas in all 5 1/4 (5 1/4, 5 3/4, 6 1/4)".

Now, dec 1 double knot st at both ends of every row 13 times & 27 (29, 32, 35) sps rem.

TO DEC:  Omit turning knot st, sl st to center of first half of knot st, sc in next half of knot st & cont in patt across to within last knot st.  Break off.

FINISHING: 
With hot iron, press thru damp cloth to meas worked. 

Sew underarm seams. 

Sew sleeves in place.

Work 1 row of sc around neck & lower edge of sleeves.  Ch 5, turn.  * Sk 1 sc, tr in next sc, ch 1.  Rep from * around.  Break off. 

Run narrow ribbon thru beading, drawing it in to fit & tie in bows.
