Vintage 1940s Girl’s Party Dress #C110

Quick & easy to crochet this delightful, lace dress with the skirt in simple double crochet & the bodice in a combination of dainty mesh & double crochet…perfect for many special occasions!

SIZE:  2 Years. 

Materials:
12 Balls Sultana Beautysheen
#7 Steel Crochet Hook
4 Small Buttons
Ribbon

Gauge: 
10 dc = 1”; 
19 rows = 4”

Measurements: 
Chest 21“-22”; 
width at shoulders 9 ½”; 
length from lower edge to underarm 11 ½”

Front: 
Skirt: 
Ch 163 for lower edge of skirt.

1ST ROW:  RIGHT SIDE:  1 Dc in 4th & each rem st to end; 161 dc.  Always count turning ch 3 as 1 dc.

2ND ROW:  Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 2nd & in each of next 2 dc, * ch 1, sk 1, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, sk 1, 1 dc in each of next 7 dc *; rep bet *s, end last rep 1 dc in each of 3 sts, 1 dc in top of turning ch.

3RD ROW:  Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 2nd & in each of next 2 dc, * ch 3, sl st in next dc, ch 3, 1 dc in each of 7 dc *; rep bet *s, end last rep 3 dc, 1 dc in top of turning ch.

4TH ROW:  Ch 3, turn, work 3 dc, * 1 dc in sp under 3 ch, ch 1,1 dc in next sp, 1 dc in each of 7 dc *; rep bet *s, end last rep 1 dc in sp, 1 dc in each of 3 dc, 1 dc in top of turning ch.

5TH ROW:  Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 2nd & each rem dc & sp; 161 dc.

6TH ROW:  Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 2nd & in each of next 7 sts, rep bet *s of row 2, end 9 dc.

7TH ROW:  Ch 3, turn, work 8 dc, rep bet *s of row 3, end 9 dc.

8TH ROW:  Ch 3, turn, work 8 dc, rep bet *s of row 4, end 1 dc in sp, 9 dc.

9TH ROW:  Same as row 5.

Rep last 8 rows until 10 ½” from beg, or 1” less than desired length to underarm, end with dc row.

Yoke: 
Ch 4, turn, 1 dc in 3rd dc, * ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 dc in next st; rep from * to end.

DEC ROW:  RIGHT SIDE:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first dc, * sk 1 ch, 1 sc in next dc, 1 sc in next sp, sk 1 dc, 1 sc in next sp, 1 sc in next dc; rep from *, end sk 1 ch, 1 sc in dc, sk 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch st; 107 sc.

Beading: 
1ST ROW:  Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in 2nd sc, * ch 1, sk 1 sc, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts; rep from * to end.

2ND ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each tr & sp, end 1 sc in top of turning ch; 107 sts.

Armholes: 
Ch 1, turn, sl st over first 6 sc for underarm, 1 sc in next st, ch 4, sk 1 st, 1 dc in next st, * ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 dc in next st; rep from * to within 6 sts of end. 

Ch 3, turn, * 1 dc in sp, 1 dc in dc, rep from *, end 1 dc in 3rd st of turning ch; 95 dc. 

Ch 4, turn, 1 dc in 3rd dc, * ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 dc in next st; rep from * to end; 47 sp. 

Rep last 2 rows until there are 16 rows above underarm, end with dc row.

Neck & Shoulder Shaping: 
Ch 4, turn, work until 14 sp; 29 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc.  

Ch 3, turn, work 1 row dc; 31 sts.  Rep last 2 rows until 7 short rows, ending openwork rows with 3 dc at neck edge.  Fasten off.

Working from wrong side, sk 33 sts on last long row for front neck edge; with lp on hk, work 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, * ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 dc in next st; rep from * to end. 

Finish to correspond to other shoulder.

Back of the Frock Dress:  SKIRT: 
Work same as front until 2 rows above underarm; 95 dc.

Left Half of Back: 
NEXT ROW:  Ch 4, turn, work until 23 spaces; 47 sts. Turn.

Continue as for front on these sts until 16 rows above underarm, end with dc row.  Fasten off.

Right Half of Back: 
Work from wrong side, sk center st of last long row of back. 

With lp on hk, 1 dc in next st, * ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 dc in next st; rep from * to end. 

Finish to correspond to left side.

Sleeves:  CUFF: 
Ch 63, work 62 sc on ch.

BEADING: 
Work row 1 & row 2 of beading as for front yoke; 62 sc.

INC ROW:  Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in each of 2nd & 3rd sts, * ch 1, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts; rep from *, end last rep 3 dc; 91 sts.

Ch 3, 1 dc in 2nd & in each rem dc and ch st, end 1 dc in turning ch; 91 dc. 

Rep 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th rows of skirt patt.

DEC ROW:  Ch 3, turn, sk first dc, * yo, draw up lp in next st, yo & thru 2 lps, yo, draw up lp in next st, yo, thru 2 lps, yo, thru 3 lps (1 st dec) *; rep bet *s once, cont with care to keep patt, to within 4 sts of end (turning ch counts as 1 dc), rep bet *s twice. 

Rep dec. of 2 sts at beg & end of each of next 11 rows, with care to keep patt; 43 sts. Fasten off.

Finishing: 
Sew seams. 

Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm, holding in fullness at top. 

Work from right side, work 1 row sc on right edge of opening, keep work flat. 

Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc.  Fasten off.

Beg at lower left edge of opening, work sc to neck edge, working 4 button lps equal distances apart; 1 sc in corner st at neck edge. 

Ch 3, sl st in first st (picot), 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, cont picot edging around neck, spacing picots evenly & holding in corners by sk 1 st. 

Steam lightly. 

Trim with ribbon as illustrated.
