Free Pattern - Vintage Sunday Morning Hat #107

Vintage Sunday Morning Hat  #107
MATERIALS: 
Bucilla Strawkraft or Fleisher’s Straw-Twist [all rayon], 3 skeins
Crochet Hook # 10
1 ¼ yds Grosgrain Ribbon, 2” wide
10” Buckram, 2” wide

Entire hat is made using 2 strands.

BAND: 
Ch 23, 1 sc in 2nd  & each rem st of ch [22 sts].

2nd Row:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st. 

Rep 2nd row until 15” from beg [about 52 rows].  Fasten off.

CROWN: 
Ch 4, join with a sl st into a ring, work 9 sc in ring.  Mark end of rnds. 

2nd Rnd:  2 Sc in each st [18 sts].

3rd Rnd:  Work 1 rnd even, [1 sc in each st].

4th Rnd:  2 Sc in each st [36 sts].

5th & 6th Rnds:  Work both rnds even, [1 sc in each st].

7th Rnd:  * 1 Sc in each of 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 8 times [45 sts].

8th Rnd:  Work one rnd even, [1 sc in each st].

9th Rnd:  3 Sc in first st [inc for point], 1 sc in each of next 44 sts [47 sts].

10th Rnd:  1 Sc in first st, 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of 45 sts [49 sts]. 

Work 2 more rnds inc 2 sts in center st of point in each rnd as before [53 sts]. 

Work 1 rnd even, sl st in next st.  Fasten off.  Point is at center back of crown.

FINISHING: 
Cut a strip of buckram same width as ribbon & 10” long.

Cut ribbon in half & sew a piece firmly to each short end of buckram.

Fold band lengthwise over buckram strip with ribbon extending at each side; with center of band [& buckram] at center front of crown, sew long edges of band to edge of crown to about 2 ½” from each side of center back point.

Tie ribbon in flat bow & tack to back of crown about 1” above point.
