Vintage Quick Cable Shrug #1115

Knit in only one piece to create a smart shrug, suitable for all seasons.

SIZE:
10 to 18

MATERIALS:
Coats & Clark's Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 4 Ply
 Skeins: 11 oz of  White
Knitting Needles, 1 Pair #10

GAUGE:
PATTERN:
14 sts = 3”
5 rows = 1”


SHRUG:
Starting at center back, cast on 53 sts. 

1ST ROW (RIGHT SIDE): P 3, * k 4, p 3. Repeat from * across to within last 8 sts, k 8. 

2ND ROW: K 11, * O, p 4, O, k 3, p 4, k 3. Rep from * across. 

3RD ROW: P 3, * k 4, p 3, drop next O, sl next st on tooth­pick & hold in front of work, sl next 2 sts on another toothpick & hold in back of work, k next st, drop next O, k 2 sts from back toothpick, k st from front toothpick - cable twist made; p 3. Rep from * to within last 8 sts, k 8. 

4TH ROW: K 11, * p 4, k 3. Rep from * across. 

5TH ROW: Rep 1st row. 

6TH ROW: K 11, * p 4, k 3, O, p 4, O, k 3. Rep from * across. 

7TH ROW: P 3, * make cable twist same as on 3rd row, p 3, k 4, p 3. Rep from * across to within last 8 sts, k 8. 

8TH ROW: Rep 4th row.

Rep last 8 rows for patt.

Work in pattern until length is about 7½”, end with either 4th or 8th row.

At end of last row cast on 19 sts for Sleeve.

SLEEVE:
1ST ROW: K 5 loosely, complete row in patt (5th or first row).

Keep 5 sts at sleeve edge & 8 sts at opposite edge in garter st (k each row), cont in patt until length is about 13½ inches from cast-on sts of sleeve, end with either 4th or 8th row. 

NEXT ROW: Start at sleeve edge, bind off 19 sts loosely - THIS COMPLETES SLEEVE, complete row in patt.

Work even over these 53 sts until length is about 15” from bound-off sts of sleeve, end with either 4th or 8th row.

At end of last row cast on 19 sts for other sleeve & work same as 1st sleeve.

Work even over these 53 sts until length is about 7½” from bound- off sts of 2nd sleeve, end with 8th row. Bind off.

FINISHING:
Sew 53 cast-on sts to 53 bound-off sts matching patts.

This is lower center back seam. 

Lay out doubled piece having seam in center of 15” area bet sleeves.

Sleeves are now folded in half.

Match patts, sew cast-on sts to bound-off sts of each sleeve.

Al­low for stretch bet shoulders, sew both 15” edges bet sleeves tog.

This last seam & lower back seam form T at center back, when Shrug is worn.

Press seams through damp cloth.

Slip arms in sleeves.
