A skillful needlewoman will swiftly crochet this delightful lace cap…Delightful, addition to the discerning woman‘s wardrobe!

Materials:
3 Balls Ecru Cordonnet No. 15.
#5 Steel Crochet Hook

CAP BAND:
Ch 12 & join in ring.  Ch 3, 15 dc in ring.

2nd row:  Turn, ch 3, 1 dc each in first 3 dc, picked up on double thread.  * Ch 4, 1 dc each in next 3 dc, & rep from * across row, when there will be 5 groups in all, with 4 ch lps bet them.  Turn.

1 Sc in center dc of 1st group, picked up on double thread ; 7 sc in ch lp.  Work in this way Over each lp & each group excepting final one.  After 7 sc have been worked in final lp ch 8 & catch in end of row.  Turn.

Ch 3, 15 dc in this new ring, & rep from beg of 2nd row until 2nd shell is completed.

The 3rd shell is worked in same way, but at end of 2nd row it is caught to 3rd scallop of 1st shell.

The 4th shell is caught to 2nd shell, & each shell is caught to 2nd preceding shell in same manner.

Cont in this way until there are 17 shells along each edge, & length is sufficient for band, joining last 2 shells to first 2 shells.

If work has been done too tight or an extra large band is required, more shells may be added, as needed.

Beg ch lps which form crown of cap in 1st sc of 2nd scallop of last shell worked on inner edge of band.

Ch 9, 1 sc in center of 1st scallop of same shell, & work ch lps in this manner, catching at center of each scallop along inner edge of band until 1st scallop of 10th shell has been worked into.  Sk 1st sc of next scallop & catch in next, turn, ch 9, 1 sc in 1st lp, * ch 9, 1 sc in next, & rep from * across row.  At end ch 5, & catch to band in 2nd st from sc with which row was started.

Work back & forth in ch lps in this manner, at end of each row catching to 2nd sc along band, until ends of rows have been caught to 4 shells of band.

Ch 5, catch in 1st lp, ch 5, catch in center of 1st scallop of un-worked part of band, & crisscross from lps to band, joining them, until 8th scallop of band has been worked into.

Count off lps to be caught to 8 scallops at other end of row, & catch lps bet to center scallops of band, catching in each sc or as necessary to join all lps.

If number of shells in band has been changed, it will be necessary to divide additional scallops proportionately bet front & back of cap.

rosettes [sides of cap]:
Ch 8, join in ring & make 15 sc in ring.

2nd rnd:  Ch 3, 1 sc in 3rd st along ring, & rep until there are 5 ch lps around ring.

3rd rnd:  1 Sc, 5 dc & 1 sc in each lp around ring.

4th rnd:  1 Sc in each sc of 2nd rnd, working over 3rd rnd, 5 ch sts bet sc, carried behind shells of 3rd rnd.

5th rnd:  Like 3rd  but with 7 dc in each shell.

6th rnd like 4th, but with 7 ch in each lp.

Cont in this way in each rd making 1 extra dc in each shell & 1 extra ch in each lp, until 7 shell rnds in all have been made. Fasten off & sew to cap.

drop ornaments
One drop is worked at center of each scallop of 5th shell at each side from center of front.

Catch thread in scallop, ch 7, & in 2nd ch from hk make 6 sc, then work 2nd rnd of 2 sc in each st, keeping wrong side of sts out.

Make 2 rnds of 1 sc in each st, & 2 rnds of 1 sc in every 2nd st.

All drop ornaments are made in same way.
