A skillful needlewoman
will swiftly crochet these dainty mitts in an easy net stitch pattern…An
attractive wardrobe accessory to wear year round!
Materials:
American
Thread Co Star Mercerized Tatting Cotton, 75 yd balls, 5 White, & 1 Red
#11
or #12 Steel Crochet Hook
For
larger size use #10 hook & add 2 more rows of meshes.
[Do
not work too tightly.]
LEFT
GLOVE:
With
White, ch 138, dc in 8th st from hk, * ch 2, sk 2 chs, dc in next
ch, rep from * across row, ch 5, turn. [44 meshes/m].
2ND
ROW: Dc in 1st m, * ch 2, dc
in next m, rep from * across row, ch 5, turn & rep 2nd row 6
times, ch 5, sc in 1st m of same row to join, do not turn work but
cont working around.
9TH
ROW: Ch 5, dc in same m, ch 2, dc in
next m, ch 2, dc in next m, ch 2, dc in next m, ch 2, dc in same m, * ch 2, dc
in next m, rep from * 4 times, ch 2, dc in same m [this starts inc for thumb],
* ch 2, dc in next m, rep from * all around to last m, ch 2, dc in center of
joining ch, ch 2, dc in ch 5 lp, ch 2, dc in next m, cont work without joining.
10TH
& 11TH ROWS: Work in 2 ch
m, inc 1 m in each inc point for thumb.
12TH
ROW: Work in patt same as last row &
inc 1 mesh in each inc point of thumb, but after working 2nd inc for
thumb, work 10 m, ch 2, work puff st in dc of 2nd inc row working
over m of Last row made, [puff st; yo hk, insert in dc & pull st up length
of 2 rows, * yo, insert in same sp & pull st up same length, rep from *
twice, yo & pull thru all lps but 1, yo & pull thru 2 lps], work 2 m,
ch 2, puff st in next dc of 2nd inc row, work 2 m, ch 2, puff st in
next dc of 2nd inc row, cont rem of row in patt.
In
next & every alternate row omit puff st.
In
every other row work puff sts for back of glove in top of last puff st, working
over prev row.
Work
6 more rows in same manner, always inc in each inc point for thumb &
working puff st patt on back of glove.

MIDDLE
FINGER:
Join
thread in top of last dc at base of last finger on palm side of glove &
work 7 m on palm, ch 9, dc in 7th free m from last finger on back of
glove & work 2 rows of m even, [20 m] then dec 1 m every other row until 16
m rem, then work 6 rows even.
FOREFINGER:
Attach
thread in same manner & work 2 rows of m all around [19 m].
Dec
1 m every other row 4 times 7 work 5 rows even.
THUMB:
Work
2 rows of 23 m.
CUFF:
Attach
White in corner st at lower edge of glove, ch 3, dc in same sp, * ch 1, 2 dc in
next dc, rep from * across row, ch 5, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sk 1 dc, * 3 dc with ch 1 bet each
dc in next 2 dc group, [shell] ch 2, 1 dc in next 2 dc group, ch 2, rep from *
across row ending with 1 dc in 2 dc group, ch 5, turn.
3RD
ROW: * 3 Dc with ch 1 bet each dc in
center dc of next shell, ch 2, dc in single dc bet shells, ch 2, rep from *
across row, ending with 1 dc in 3rd st of ch 5, ch 5, turn & rep
3rd row 10 times.
Work
3 sc in each m around front opening, ch 1, turn 7 work 1 sc in each sc, working
2 ch-8 lps evenly sp for buttonholes on one side above cuff, [buttonhole: ch 8, sk 6 sc, sc in next sc], break thread.
Join
red in same sp, turn, ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 4, sl st in top of dc for picot,
dc in same sp, * ch 4, sk 3 sc, sc in next st, ch 4, sk 3 sc, 2 dc, picot, 1 dc
in next sc, rep from * around opening, working shell in each buttonhole 7

GLOVE:
Work
first 8 rows same as Left Glove.

ROW: Same as 9th row of Left
Glove, but reverse thumb by inc 1 m in 9th & 4th m
from end of row.
10TH
& 11TH ROWS: Same as Left
Glove.
12TH
ROW: Work 21 m, then start puff st for
back of glove & work in same manner as Left Glove to little finger.
LITTLE
FINGER:
Work
to within 3 m from 1st puff st on back of glove, ch 9, counting back
13 m, dc in next m & work same as little finger on Left Glove.
NEXT
FINGER:
Join
thread in top of last dc at base of little finger on back of glove & work 6
m, ch 9, dc in 5th free m from little finger on palm of glove, work
same as on left glove.
MIDDLE
FINGER:
Join
thread in base of last finger & work 7 m on back of glove, ch 9, dc in 7th
m from last finger on palm of glove & work same as Left Glove.
Fore finger, thumb & cuff are worked same as Left
Glove.
Finish finger edges same as cuffs.
