Vintage Baby’s Dress, Panties & Slippers #B108

Quick & easy to crochet this charming dress with it‘s matching panties & slippers. Season-spanning & perfect for many occasions!

SIZE: 
Directions are for size 6 months. 
Changes for 1 year & 18 months are in parentheses.
Larger sizes may be achieved by increasing size of hook & weight of yarn.

MATERIALS: 
Baby weight 3 ply yarn:  7 oz Pink for entire set;
OR
5 oz for Dress & 2 ounces for Diaper Cover & Bootees
#F Crochet Hook
2 Small Buttons
2 yds Ribbon, ½” wide.

GAUGE: 
Bodice:  5 sts = 1”;     5 rows = 1”

NOTE: The wrong side of tr is the right side of work.

DRESS:  BODICE:  BACK: 
Start at lower edge, ch 48 (52, 56) to meas 10 ¼” (10 ¾“, 11 ¼“)

1st row:  Right side:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook & in each ch across —47 (51, 55) sc.  Ch 1, turn.

2nd row:  Sc in first sc, * tr in next sc, pushing tr to back of work sc in next sc.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

3rd row:  Sc in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

4th row:  Sc in first 2 sc, * tr in next sc, sc in next sc.  Rep from * across to within last sc, sc in last sc.  Ch 1, turn.

5th row:  Rep 3rd row.  Ch 1, turn.

The 2nd thru 5th row of Bodice Back forms pattern.

Armhole Shaping: 
1st row:  Sl st in first 2 sc, * sc in next sc, tr in next sc.  Rep from * across to within last 3 sc, sc in next sc [do not work in remaining 2 sts] 2 sts dec at each end. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row:  Draw up lp in each of next 2 sts, yo & draw thru all 3 lps on hook [1 sc dec]; sc in each st across to within last 2 sts, excluding sl sts; dec 1 sc over last 2 sts.  Ch 1, turn.

3rd row:  Rep 2nd row of Bodice Back.  Ch 1, turn.

4th row:  Rep 2nd row of Armhole Shaping— 39 (43, 47) sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Work even in patt until length from first row of armhole shaping is 3 ½” (3 ¾“, 4“).

Shoulder Shaping: 
1st row:  Sl st in first 3 (4, 5) sts, work in patt across to within last 3 (4, 5) sts—do not work in rem sts.  Turn.

Next 2 rows:  Sl st in first 4 sts, work in patt across to within last 4 sts, excluding sl sts—do not work in rem sts.  Turn.  Rem 17 (19, 21) sts are for back of neck.  Break off and fasten.

BODICE:  FRONT: 
Work same as Bodice Back until length from first row of armhole shaping is 1 ¼” (1 ½“, 1 ¾“), ending with sc-tr row.  Ch 1, turn.

LEFT FRONT: 
1st row:  Work in patt across first 19 (21, 23) sts—do not work in rem sts.  Turn.

Work even in patt across this set of sts only until piece from first row of armhole shaping is 2 ½” (2 ¾“, 3“), ending at center front.  Turn.

Neck Shaping: 
1st row:  Sl st in first 6 (7, 8 ) sts, work in patt across.  Ch 1, turn.

Cont in patt, dec one st at neck edge every row twice.

Work even in patt over rem 11 (12,13) sts until front meas same as Back to Shoulder Shaping, ending at armhole edge.

Shoulder Shaping: 
1st row:  Sl st in first 3 (4, 5) sts, work in patt across rem sts.  Ch 1, turn.

2nd row:  Work across to within last 4 sts—do not work in last 4 sts.  Break off & fasten.

RIGHT FRONT: 
1st row:  Attach yarn to next free st at center front on last long row worked. Work in patt across rem 19 (21, 23) sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Work in patt as for Left Front to Neck Shaping, ending at armhole edge with same patt row.

Neck Shaping: 
1st row:  Work to within last 6 (7, 8 ) sts—do not work in last 6 (7, 8 ) sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Cont as for Left Front to Shoulder Shaping, ending at neck edge with same patt row.

Shoulder Shaping: 
1st row:  Work to within last 3 (4, 5) sts—do not work in last 3 (4, 5) sts.  Turn.

2nd row:  Sl st in first 4 sts, work in patt across.  Break off & fasten.

Sew side seams.

SKIRT: 
With right side facing, attach yarn to center st of starting ch of Bodice Back.

1st rnd:  Working along opposite side of starting ch, ch 3, dc in same place where yarn was attached, make 2 dc in each st around.  Join with sl st to top of ch-3—188 (204, 220) dc, counting ch-3 as 1 dc.  Ch 3, turn.

2nd rnd:  Dc in each dc around.  Join to top of ch-3—188 (204, 220) dc.  Ch 3, turn.

Rep 2nd rnd until skirt meas about 6” (6 ½“, 7“), ending on wrong side.  Ch 1, turn.

BORDER: 
1st rnd:  Sc in joining, sc in each st around.  Join to first sc—188 (204, 220) sc. Ch 1, turn.

2nd rnd:  Sc in joining, tr in next sc, * sc in next sc, tr in next sc.  Rep from * around.  Join.  Ch 1, turn.

3rd rnd:  Rep first rnd.  Ch 4, turn.

4th rnd:  Tr in joining, sc in next sc, * tr in next sc, sc in next sc.  Rep from * around.  Join to first tr.  Ch 1, turn.

5th & 6th rnds:  Rep first & 2nd rnds.  Join, break off & fasten.

SLEEVES: 
Start at lower edge, ch 36 (38, 40) to meas 7 ½” (8“, 8 ½“).

1st row:  2 Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 1 (2, 3) ch, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 16 times; sc in rem 0 (1, 2) sc—53 (55, 57) sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Starting with 2nd row, work same as Bodice—Back until length is 1 ( 1 1/4, 1 1/2) inches.

Top Shaping: 
1st row:  Sl st in first 2 sts, work in patt across to within last 2 sts—do not work in rem sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Work in patt dec one st at each end of every row until total length is 2” (2 ¼“, 2 ½“).  Break off & fasten.

Sew shoulder & sleeve seams. 

Sew in sleeves, gathering top edge to fit.

COLLAR: 
With right side facing, attach yarn to right neck edge.

1st row:  Ch 1, sc where yarn was attached, sc evenly along neck edge, having number of sc divisible by 2 plus 1.  Ch 3, turn.

2nd row:  DC in first sc, * dc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc.  Rep from * across.  Ch 3, turn.

3rd & 4th rows:  Sk first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.

At end of last row omit turning ch.

Next row:  Sl st in each st across.  Break off & fasten.

With right side facing, attach yarn to left neck edge, ch 3, dc evenly along front opening.  Break off & fasten.

Sew 2 buttons to left front opening, using corresponding sts as buttonholes.
Press lightly.

DIAPER COVER:  BACK: 
Start at waist, ch 53 (55, 57) to meas 11” (11 ½“, 12“).

1st row:  Dc in 4th ch from hook & in each ch across—51 (53, 55) dc, counting ch-3 as 1 dc. Ch 3, turn.

2nd row:  Sk first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of ch-3.  Ch 3, turn.

3rd & 4th rows:  Dc in first dc, dc in each dc across, 2 dc in top of turning ch—one st inc at each end of each row—55 (57, 59) dc.  Ch 3, turn.

5th & 6th rows:  Rep 2nd row.

Next 2 rows:  Rep 3rd & 4th rows—59 (61, 63) dc.

Rep 2nd row until total length is 5 ½” (6“, 6 ½“).

Mark both ends of last row to indicate end of side edge.  Ch 3, turn.

Leg Shaping: 
Next row:  Sk first dc, (yo, draw up lp in next st) 3 times; yo & draw thru 6 lps on hook, yo & draw thru 2 lps on hook—2 dc dec at beg of row; work to within last 4 sts, dec 2 dc over next 3 dc as before, dc in top of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.

Rep last row until 19 (21, 23) dc rem.  Break off & fasten.

FRONT: 
Work same as Back. 

Sew side & crotch seams.

LEG BAND: 
1st rnd: With right side facing, attach yarn at crotch seam, ch 1, sc evenly around leg opening, having number of sc divisible by 2.  Join.  Ch 1, turn.

Next 3 rnds:  Rep 2nd, 3rd & 4th rnds of Border of Skirt.  Break off & fasten.

WAISTBAND: 
With right side facing & working along opposite side of starting ch, attach yarn to side seam, ch 4, * sk 1 ch, dc in next ch, ch 1.  Rep from * around.  Join to 3rd ch of ch-4.  Break off & fasten.

Press thru damp cloth.

Run 1yd length of ribbon thru ch-1 sps.  Tie in bow at front.

BOOTEES:  SOLE: 
Start at center, ch 17.

1st rnd:  Make 6 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 12 ch, 7 dc in last ch; working along opposite side of starting ch, dc in next 12 ch.  Join with sl st to top of ch-3.

2nd rnd:  Ch 3, dc in joining, 2 dc in each of next 6 dc, dc in next 12 dc, 2 dc in each of next 7 dc, dc in next 12 dc.  Join.

3rd rnd:  Ch 1, sc in joining, 2 sc in next dc, (sc in next dc, 2 sc in next dc) 6 times; sc in next 12 dc, (sc in next dc, 2 sc in next dc) 7 times; sc in next 12 dc.  Join.  Break off & fasten.

UPPER: 
Start at toe, ch 7.

1st row right side:  Dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch—7 dc. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row:  Sc in each dc across, sc in top of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.

3rd row:  2 Dc in first sc, dc in each sc to within center st, 3 dc in center sc, dc in each sc to within last sc, 3 dc in last sc— 6 dc inc.  Ch 1, turn.

4th thru 8th row:  Rep 2nd & 3rd rows alternately— 25 sc on last row.  Ch 3, turn.

9th row:  Sk first sc, dc in next 11 sc, 3 dc in next sc, dc in next 12 sc—27 dc.  Ch 1, turn.

10th row:  Rep 2nd row.  Ch 3, turn.

LEFT SIDE: 
1st row:  Sk first sc, dc in next 11 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

2nd row:  Sc in each dc across, dc in top of turning ch—12 sc.  Ch 3, turn.

Next 8 rows:  Rep last 2 rows alternately.  At end of last row break off & fasten.

RIGHT SIDE: 
Sk center 3 sts on last long row, attach yarn to next sc, ch 3 & work to correspond with Left Side.

Leave 1“ opening at top, sew back seam.

Pin Sole to Upper.

Working thru both thicknesses, sc evenly around.  Join to first sc.  Break off & fasten.

CUFF: 
1st row:  With wrong side facing & working along top edge of Upper, make 33 sc evenly across.  Ch 1, turn.

2nd row:  Sc in each sc across.  Ch 3, turn.

3rd row:  Sk first sc, dc in each sc across.  Ch 1, turn.

4th row:  Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st.  Rep from * across— 49 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Work in patt as for Bodice Back for 6 rows.  Break off & fasten.

With wrong side facing, attach yarn to top of 1“ back opening; working along back opening make sc & tr alternately across.  Break off & fasten.

Run 18“ length of ribbon thru 3rd row of Cuff.

Tie in bow at back.
