Small, Medium
& Large.
Directions are for size Small with changes for Medium & Large in brackets.

J & P Coats, Size 30: Small Ball – 3 balls of white; Large Ball – 2 balls of white
OR
Clark’s ONT Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 30, 4 balls of white
Steel crochet hook #10

LEFT GLOVE: LITTLE
FINGER:
Starting at tip, ch 4.
1ST RND: 11
[12-13] Dc in 4th ch from hk.
Join with sl st to top of starting ch.
2ND RND:
Ch 4, * dc in next dc, ch 1. Rep
from * around. Join last ch-1 to 3rd
ch of ch-4.
3RD RND:
Sl at in next sp, ch 4, * dc in next sp, ch 1. Rep from * around. Join.
Rep 3rd rnd until 12 [13-14] rnds have been
completed. Join & fasten off.
RING FINGER:
Starting at tip, ch 4.
1ST RND: 12
[13-14] Dc in 4th ch from hk.
Join.
Work as for Little Finger until 14 [15-16] rands have been
completed. Fasten off.
MIDDLE FINGER:
Starting at tip, ch 4.
1ST RND: 13
[14-15] Dc in 4th ch from hk.
Join.
Work as for Little Finger until 16 [17-18] rnds have been
completed. Fasten off.
INDEX FINGER:
Work
same as for Ring Finger.
THUMB: Starting at
tip, ch 4.
1ST RND: 16
[17-18] Dc in 4th ch from hk.
Join.
Work as for Little Finger until 12 [13-14] rnds have been
completed. Fasten off.
JOINING FINGERS: Sew
Ring Finger, Middle Finger, & Index Finger tog at base, join dc to sp on
following finger & leaving same amt of sps free on both sides of joining.
PALM & BACK:
1ST RND: Attach thread to 1st
free sp on inside edge of Index Finger & work in sp patt across each
finger. Now cont working in patt across
back & join to 1st sp – 40 [43-46] sps.
2ND RND:
Work in patt around. Join. Now sew Little Finger in place.
NEXT RND: Work in
patt around, making sps over Little Finger as for other fingers – 52 [56-60]
sps.
Work in patt for 5 [6-7] more rnds.
Sew Thumb in place & cont to work in sp patt over Thumb
sps.
NEXT RND: Mark 2 sps
directly above joining of Thumb on both sides of glove. Work in patt to within 2 marked sps, ch 1,
hold back on hk last lp of each dc, dc in each of next 2 sps, yo & draw
thru all lps on hk [1 sp dec]. Complete
rnd, dec 1 sp over next 2 marked sps
[starts Thumb gore].
Now work in patt for 2 more rnds, dec 1 sp directly over
each prev dec made.
NEXT RND: Mark 2 sps
directly bet Thumb decs & 2 sps on outer edge of Little Finger side of
glove.
Cont to work in patt, dec 1 sp over each dec & over
marked sps as before.
Cont to work in patt, making decs over 4 points until 9
rnds are completed from 1st dec rnd.
Fasten off.
Now shape lower edge as follows:
1ST ROW: Mark center sp of
last rnd at back of glove. Attach thread
to 7th sp to left of marked sp, ch 4 & work in patt to within 6
sps, before marked sp.
2ND ROW:
Sl st in next sp, ch 4, * dc in next sp, ch 1. Rep from * across, end with dc in last
sp. Turn.
Rep 2nd row 3 [4-5] more times.
EDGING:
* 2 Sc in
next sp, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hk [picot/p made]. Rep from * around entire lower edge. Join & fasten off.
BUTTERFLY: LARGE
WING: MAKE 2:
Starting at center, ch 13.
1ST ROW:
Dc in 4th ch from hk & in each of next 7 ch, hdc in next
ch, in next ch make sc, ch 3 & sc.
Now, work across opposite side of starting chain, hdc in
next ch, dc in each rem ch across. Ch 3,
turn.
2ND ROW:
Sk 1st dc, dc in each st to ch-3 lp at tip, in ch-3 lp, 3 dc,
ch 3 & 3 dc; dc in each rem st across & in top of turning ch. Ch 1, turn.
3RD ROW:
Sc in each dc across, 2 sc, ch 3 & 2 sc in sp at tip. Ch 4, turn.
4TH ROW:
* Sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1.
Rep from * across, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 3, dc, ch 1 & dc in lp at
tip. Ch 1, turn.
5TH ROW:
2 Sc in each sp across, 2 sc, ch 3 & 2 sc in sp at tip. Ch 5, turn.
6TH ROW:
* Sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 2.
Rep from * across, dc, ch 2, dc, ch 3, dc, ch 2, & dc in lp at
tip. Ch 1, turn.
7TH ROW:
3 Sc in each sp across, 3 sc, ch 3 & 3 sc in sp at tip. Ch 5, turn.
8TH ROW:
Rep 6th row.
9TH ROW:
* 3 Sc in next sp, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hk [p/picot]. Rep from * across, end with 3 sc in last
sp. Fasten off.
SMALL WING:
MAKE
2: Work same as Large Wing until 6 rows
are completed.
7TH ROW:
Rep 9th row of Large Wing.
BODY:
Ch 11.
1ST ROW:
Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
From
now on, pick up back lp only of each sc.
2ND ROW:
2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next 7 sc, work off last 2 sc as 1
sc. Ch 1, turn.
3RD ROW:
Work off 1st 2 sc as 1 sc, sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in last
sc. Ch 1, turn.
Rep 2nd & 3rd rows alternately
until piece meas 3”. Fasten off.
ANTENNAE:
Ch 50, sc
in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across. Fasten off.
ASSEMBLE BUTTERFLY:
Tightly gather [shirr] straight ends of Wings.
Place gathered end of 1 large wing over gathered end of 1 small wing [as in photo], & sew in place.
Sew 2 rem wing tog in same manner.
Sew gathered edged of 2 pairs of wings tog at center.
Sew 2 long ends of body tog, stuff with several strands of thread & make sure to keep one end of body pointed.
Sew body in place over joined wings, & have pointed end of body even with bottom edge of small wings.
Roll & sew ends of Antennae to form small knobs.
Double this piece & sew in place under upper part of body.
Tightly gather [shirr] straight ends of Wings.
Place gathered end of 1 large wing over gathered end of 1 small wing [as in photo], & sew in place.
Sew 2 rem wing tog in same manner.
Sew gathered edged of 2 pairs of wings tog at center.
Sew 2 long ends of body tog, stuff with several strands of thread & make sure to keep one end of body pointed.
Sew body in place over joined wings, & have pointed end of body even with bottom edge of small wings.

Double this piece & sew in place under upper part of body.
Sew Butterfly in place on back of glove.
RIGHT GLOVE: Make in
same manner, except reverse to fit right hand.
