Vintage 1946 Whisper Lace Cropped Jacket #1333


Here it is! Not only lovely to look at, but flattering to wear. Light as thistledown yet warm as toast is this sweetly designed jacket. The directions show this as worked in pink & white yarn with stripes, but it’s more than lovely in a solid color

SIZE:
36” – 38” Bust

MATERIALS:
Patons Beehive Fingering 2 Ply, 3oz each of Pink & White
1 Pair Each #4 & #6 Knitting Needles
1½ yds Narrow Ribbon

GAUGE/ TENSION:
6 sts & 13 rows = 1”(meas over st st)
 
MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 36”-38”
Length from Shoulder= 21”
Sleeve Seam = 9½”

BACK & FRONTS:
Knit in 1 piece up to armhole shaping.

Use #4 needles & pink yarn, cast on 226 sts.

1ST & 2ND ROWS: K (k into back of sts in 1st row).

3RD ROW: K 3, * k 1, wl fwd 3 times, k 2 tog 6 times, wl fwd, k 1, wl fwd, k 1, wl fwd twice, rep from * to
last 3 sts, k 3.

4TH ROW: K.

5TH ROW: * Put point of needle into st on left-hand needle & put yarn (purlwise) 3 times around right-
Hand needle & draw thru st on left-hand needle in usual way; rep from * to end.

6TH ROW: * K knit st of last row, & drop 2 lps off left-hand needle; rep from * to end.

7TH & 8TH ROWS: Rep 3rd & 4th rows.

9TH ROW: K.

10TH ROW: P.

These 10 rows make patt.

Break off pink yarn.

Use white yarn, rep rows 1st -10th incl. Break off white yarn.

Rep last 20 rows once more.

Change to pink yarn & rep rows 1st -10th incl.

RIGHT FRONT YOKE:
Use pink yarn throughout, yoke & #6 needles, & work on 1st 64 sts only. K 64, turn.

ARMHOLE SHAPINGS:
Cast off 6 sts, k to end.

NEXT ROW: P (this purl side is RS of work).

Cont, in st st patt, throughout yoke & k 2 tog at armhole edge every other row 6 times, making 12 dec &
leave 52 sts on needle.

Now cont, without further armhole shaping until yoke meas 5”, end on k row.

FRONT NECK SHAPING:
Cast off 12 sts, p to end.

Then at same edge k 2 tog every row 10 times, but AT SAME TIME when armhole meas 6” on straight.

SHOULDER SHAPING:
Cast off 6 sts at armhole edge every other row 5 times.

BACK YOKE:
Return to next 98 sts on needle, k 98 sts, turn.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Beg of next 2 rows cast off 5 sts.

Then every other row k 2 tog each end 5 times (20 dec & 78 sts on needle).

Cont in st st without further shaping until yoke is 6”.

SHAPE SHOULDERS:
Cast off 6 sts at beg of every row 10 times.

Cast off rem sts at back of neck.

LEFT FRONT YOKE
Return to iast 64 sts on needle.

1ST ROW: Cast off 6 sts, k to end.

NEXT ROW: K.

NEXT ROW: K 2 tog, p to end.

Now cont these reverse shaping for armhole, neck, & shoulders.
Finish to match right front yoke.

COLLAR
Use pink yarn & #4 needles, cast on 91 sts & rep patt, rows 1st – 10th incl.

Change to white yarn & rep patt, rows 1st -10th incl.

Change to #6 needles.

NEXT ROW: K.

NEXT ROW: * K 2, k 2 tog, wl fwd: rep from * to last 3 sts, k 3.

K 2 rows. Cast off.

SLEEVES:
Use #4 needles & pink wool, cast on 91 sts & work 10 patt rows alt in pink & white.

SHAPE TOP:
Pink throughout.

Change to #6 needles & to st st patt, keep P side as RS, as for yoke.

Cast off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Now work 3”without shaping, then k 2 tog at each end of every other row until 55 sts rem.

Cast off in twos.

FINISHING:
Press pieces lightly on WS.

Join shoulder & sleeve seams.

Gather up top of sleeve & set into armholes.

Sew collar to neck, & thread ribbon thru.
