1946 Baby’s Cozy Bunting #B-140

Perfection…baby will stay comfy & cozy in this bunting, quickly created by you in a novelle “waffle” stitch & edged in satin ribbon.

MATERIALS:
Chadwick’s Red Heart Baby Wool, ¾ oz, 12 balls
Bone Crochet Hook #4
2 yds of Ribbon, 1 ½” wide
Hooks & Eyes

GAUGE:
6 dc = 1”
3 rows = 1”
  
BUNTING:
Start at lower edge, ch 210 to meas 37”.

1ST ROW:  Dc in 4th ch from hk, dc in each ch across [217 dc, counting turning ch-3 as 1 dc].  Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  YO, insert hk bet first 2 dc, bring it out bet next & following dc, * pull lp thru, [yo & draw thru 2 lps] twice; yo, insert hk bet same 2 dc where hk was brought out, bring it out bet next 2 dc, pull lp thru, yo & complete as for dc, dc in next dc, yo, insert hk bet this & next dc, bring it out bet that & following dc.  Rep from * across, making last dc in top st of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW:  * Dc in next 2 dc, yo, insert hk bet that & following dc, draw lp thru & complete as for dc.  Rep from * across, ending with dc in last 2 dc, dc in top st of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.

Rep 2nd & 3rd rows alternately until piece meas 20”, ending with 3rd row.  Ch 3, turn.

LEFT FRONT:
1ST ROW:  Work in patt across 54 sts.  Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  [INNER EDGE]  * YO, [insert hk in next dc & pull lp thru] twice; yo & draw thru 3 lps, yo & draw thru rem 2 lps [1 dc dec].  Rep from * once more [another dc dec]. 
Cont in patt across rem sts of left front.  Ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW:  Work in patt across to last 2 dc & turning ch, work off 2 dc as before, do not work in turning ch [2 dc dec].  Ch 3, turn.

Rep 2nd & 3rd rows alternately [2 dc dec at inner edge on each row] until 36 sts rem.  Break off.

BACK:
Attach yarn in next dc, ch 3 & work in patt across next 108 sts [109 sts, counting starting ch].

Dec 2 dc at both ends of each row until 73 sts rem.  Break off.

RIGHT FRONT:
Attach yarn in next dc, ch 3 & work in patt across rem 53 sts [54 sts, counting starting ch].

Dec 2 dc at inner edge on each row until 36 sts rem.  Break off.

HOOD:
BACK PIECE:
Start at top edge, ch 27 to meas 4 ½”.

Work 1st, 2nd & 3rd rows same as bunting.

Then dec 1 dc at both ends of each row until 1 dc rems.  Break off.

FRONT PIECE:
Start at front edge, ch 87 to meas 14 ½”.

Work in patt same as bunting until piece meas 6”.  Break off.

FINISHING:
Sew back edge of front piece of hood along entire outer edge of back piece.

Start at inner edges & work toward center, sew curved edges of bunting tog, leave 2 ½” free on each side of front & 5” free at back of neck [neck opening[.

Sew lower edge of hood to neck opening.

Bind front edges of bunting & hood with ribbon.

Sew lower edges of bunting to.

Sew ribbon-bound edges tog for 9”, start at bottom of bunting.

Close rem of opening with hooks & eyes, sewn on wrong side.
